My World Right Now
May. 26th, 2016 07:17 pmHad my second physical therapy session today. First one was painful and exhausting. This one was less of both but still draining. I was told my copay for each visit was going to be $40 each, which would be at least $600 by the time I was done. I was pretty stressed and bummed about that. But today I found out it will only be $15 a visit! That makes me feel MUCH better.
I found out yesterday that I won a scholarship to CON.TXT, a slash-friendly fan convention I'm attending at the end of July. Squee! Such an honor. I also went ahead and volunteered to co-moderate the Harry Potter panel at the convention. I've never moderated before, but I have a few ideas and there's no better fandom for me to feel comfortable with than HP.
My parents' dog started chemo treatments and is doing well, but the treatments won't be able to cure him, only extend his life. Poor little guy.
I want my Caps to win the cup, but hockey is so much more enjoyable when I don't have to worry about them losing all the time. I'm totally rooting for the Sharks, especially as several former Caps are on that team (and doing well). I refuse to watch anything with the Pens. Besides, the west coast announcers on NBC are stupid, but they're not effing hot for Cindy and the Pens the way the group covering the east coast games are. Seriously, I cannot stand those guys calling the game. My mother actually turns off the sound and listens to the local radio announcers when they cover Capitals games, just to avoid hearing them and their stupid comments.
I've not been writing much, but I've got a few nice stories running through my head. I look forward to getting them out.
I've been cleaning/organizing a bit around the house. Not as much as I feel I should be, but I'm getting some things done, which is better than nothing.
I'm thinking of having a Ewan marathon this weekend. There's a lot of other things I want/need to watch, but it's rare for me to have a WHOLE free weekend. So I might take advantage of it Saturday & Sunday.
Because of my Hamilton obsession, I was poking around Netflix and ended up watching the first thing that shouted "Revolutionary War!" It ended up being the first two seasons of TURN, about George Washington's Culper spy ring (which I knew nothing about). As I was finishing the second season, I happened upon an audiobook about George Washington's Secret Six (the Culper spy ring). So it's been neat following the show with the actual historical details. Even more fun is that I pause the CD and sing names. The first to pop up on the book was the best! I stopped the book and yelled in my car, at the top of my voice, HERCULES MULLIGAN!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL And then later today I also got to sing Lafayette! a couple times and Alexander Hamilton a few times too. I AM SUCH A DORK.
Speaking of Hamilton, there's this. Which is silly but EXTREMELY accurate. (Spoilers within! BE WARNED!!)

Date: 2016-05-30 01:14 am (UTC)Jump on the Sharks bandwagon! A Sports Illustrated writer wrote a piece when the playoffs began about how Canadians should root for the Sharks since there weren't any Canadian teams in the playoffs this year.
If you are still looking for a Revolutionary War fix I would suggest watching the John Adams mini-series from 2008. It was on HBO so it's not on Netflix but it is very good. There are many English actors playing founding fathers which I find amusing. Rufus Sewell who was the bad guy in A Knight's Tale plays Alexander Hamilton. I don't have HBO but I bought the DVD set four or five years ago when it was on sale; you can usually find it pretty cheap nowadays.
Or you could watch Band of Brothers! if you want to see more English guys playing Americans. It will also make you want to write fic about real-life guys and feel kinda guilty about doing it. It helps that the real guys whom the book/show are based on said that many things portrayed on the show did not happen like they showed (I think in one interview one real-life guy even said the show made things look more homosexual than they actually were). Ah, creative license. :-)
