Hanging In There!
Dec. 3rd, 2016 03:38 pmThe Hamilton Mixtape came out yesterday, and I'm listening to it on repeat. I've LOVED getting all the advance release songs, but it's so great listening to them all in order now. It just kept getting better and better. I teared up/cried during several of them on first and maybe second listen. But, in general, it's just wonderful to hear artists do their own creative versions of these songs, really appreciating the music and styles. Also love the demo songs that didn't make it into the musical (including the cabinet battle about slavery!) and the RENT reference! Biggest surprises: Ingrid Michaelson is on a song (I adore her music) and it turned out beautifully! And the harmonies in Change the Rapper's "Dear Theodosia" reprise is one of the most beautiful things ever!
Question: If Dessa does a song on the Hamilton Mixtape and Dessa follows my workplace's Twitter feed (which I manage) because she was a featured presenter at our 2015 conference... does that mean I'm only 2 degrees away from Lin-Manuel Miranda now? (The answer is yes)
Also, LMM's Drunk History episode was wonderful. I have a hard time watching that show, as an emetophobe, and there was one moment I started to panic, but he was okay. Also, he's a super happy and lovey drunk, which is kind of adorable to watch even without the Hamilton story he's telling. He, like, snuggles up on the couch with the host snacking at one point. Could he BE any cuter? (The answer is no)
I went to a craft show this morning where my daddy was selling his pottery. I bought a TON of stuff as presents (even for people for whom I already have Christmas presents, so those will have to wait until birthday time). I honestly spent WAY too much money, but the prices were so reasonable and the items were super cool. And I love buying stuff from artists/crafters. I ended up buying myself two things as well--a small pitcher with dragon scales on it (seems like something that would be appropriate for one of our annual Harry Potter teas... maybe we could even do a Hagrid's Tea theme some year and that would be perfect... but mostly just because it's blue and dragony and I loved it at first sight) and a Flash Ornament (because I am not sure I even have a single DC universe ornament for my tree, and I needed to represent). I even bought some catnip toys for Charlie and Ozma for Christmas. I was planning to go to the Scottish Walk today to fulfill one of my things, but my daddy's first craft show took priority.
I posted a Badger/Elephant story on sneezefurs last night. That was terrifying. I've got a sequel to it finished, which I'll probably post regardless. And I've got two other stories I'm working on with wolves (because wolf packs = YUM). But we'll see what happens. So far, nada actual responses. Which at least isn't bad. LOL
I'm in a fandom swap this month where I know ZERO of my partner's fandoms. How unlikely is that? She's into Transformers (but NOT the animated cartoon and NOT the Michael Bay movies), Mass Effect, Dragon Age 2 (but only DA2, not the others), Steven Universe (see? Everyone's into it!), Daganronpa (which I have never even heard of), The Devil's Carnival (also haven't heard of), and Repo! the Genetic Opera (at least THIS I have seen, though it's not really my thing. I just love Anthony Stewart Head, especially if he's singing). If anyone is into any of these and has ideas of things I could buy/make, let me know. I'm brainstorming right now and have come up with some good ideas. And I see some nice things on Etsy I can buy. But I'm open to suggestions if you happen to know these fandoms and have any ideas!
Surgery recovery is going much better this week. I'm maybe up to 80-85% right now. My house completely fell apart during November. It really needs cleaning now and I'm starting to feel well enough to do the cleaning. But when I get home at night, all I want to do is veg and write and putz around on the interwebs.
Speaking of writing, I did make it to 50,000 again this year (this is my 11th NaNoWriMo and 11th win, but definitely one of the hardest yet.

I was thinking of finally going to see Fantastic Beasts today, but we're going Christmas ornament shopping as a family (annual tradition). I don't have another free day for 2 weeks after this... am worried it won't be in theaters once Star Wars hits. Maybe I'll have to take a day off work? That's not a bad idea... but I used up SO MUCH annual leave because of the appendicitis. So... don't know yet. I'll figure something out!
OMG Ozma just jumped up on my laptop and put it to sleep. Then my computer (which is DYING) wouldn't wake up. I freaked out that I'd lost this post, but I managed to get it back. So I'd better post this ASAP!

Date: 2016-12-03 09:22 pm (UTC)Congratulations on NaNo! You rock! :D
Yay for your daddy's first show! What kind of pottery does he make?
So glad to hear you're recovering. I'm sure that was pretty scary. Hopefully the pain will continue to ebb.
How are the kitties? I haven't seen nearly enough photos of Ozma and Charlie lately.
So excited to see you tomorrow! It feels like forever!

Date: 2016-12-04 12:23 am (UTC)Yeah, exactly. Apparently all of the things I know about Transformers are the things she isn't into about them, even though it's her #1 fandom! She says she likes: g1, tfp and the IDW comics. She is also a fan of DJD. I have spent some time learning what all this means:
g1=Generation 1 (I assume this reference the toys and classic characters)
tfp=I THINK is Transformers Prime (Which seems to be a cartoon, but of a different variety; I think it's like how people who like My Little Pony Friendship is Magic aren't into the old My Little Pony cartoon)
DJD=Decepticon Justice Division (part of the comics, from what I gather; there's a lot of killing involved)
Also, she dislikes Bumblebee, and he's huge in the IDW comics apparently. So this is going to be FUN! I'm so out of my depths here! LOL
Congratulations on NaNo! You rock! :D
Merci! It was definitely a hard win. I didn't hit the word count and validate until after 10pm on the very last day!
Yay for your daddy's first show! What kind of pottery does he make?
Mugs are his biggest thing (you'll see one tomorrow; I bought Ixy one for her birthday because OMG SO HARD TO BUY THINGS FOR IXY). He does other things as well--vases, pie plates, pitchers, etc. He uses a lot of blues, grays, rusts, tans, earth tones. He said he sold a lot today and there's a second day of the show tomorrow. He did a ton of pottery and was in shows before I was born, so he picked it up again now that he's retired.
So glad to hear you're recovering. I'm sure that was pretty scary. Hopefully the pain will continue to ebb.
Thanks! The pain is pretty much gone, unless I'm bending/squatting in a weird way. The problem is that it threw my entire digestive system (which, admittedly, sucked bigtime beforehand but was manageable) completely out of sorts. And there was another itchy side effect as well. So I'm dealing with the side effects now. Hopefully things will straighten themselves out on their own and continue to improve.
How are the kitties? I haven't seen nearly enough photos of Ozma and Charlie lately.
Aww, yeah. I've barely been home to take photos! They're good, but they're still separate because Ozma still tries to play with/murder Charlie and ignores Charlie's swatting & hissing entirely. They're both happy I'm finally home again!
So excited to see you tomorrow! It feels like forever!
IT HAS BEEN FOREVER! I HAVE A LITTLE THING FOR YOU FROM THE NATIONAL BOOK FESTIVAL IN SEPTEMBER!!!!!!!!!!! I'm excited to see you, too. Sorry I won't be there in the morning!

Date: 2016-12-05 06:02 pm (UTC)I adored the Hamilton Drunk History ep. Sooo cute. And I am overwhelmingly partial to Lin's longer hair so that was a plus that it was filmed prior to (still cute though) haircut. I don't routinely watch this show, but couldn't resist this time.
Have only listened to part of the Hamilton Mixtape at work. Too hard to pay attention to actually appreciating new lyrics or examining interesting changes while still trying to concentrate on work. I'm a soundtrack person more than a typical album person, and I am not familiar with the work of many of the guest singers, so my interest mostly lies in the outtakes/cut tracks that could have been in the original show, but still fascinating nevertheless!
I still haven't seen Fantastic Beasts yet either. Spent all Thanksgiving week with family (and my little niece got me sick and I'm still getting over it, ugh), and now I'm stressing about finishing X-mas shopping and prepping for Eowyn's procedure. She's been off meds again for almost 2 weeks, so she's back to pulling out hair again because her skin itches. One more week to go until radioactive kitty time! The place is even called Radiocat, lol!
Also, I cheated and watched the Dean scene from the Gilmore Girls revival without watching the rest. Worth it it because I really want to watch the 2nd half of season 5 thru season 7 first anyway before watching the whole revival, but I have no self-control for new cute!Dean material. :) I had no illusions that there was any possibility of my dream ending, so I was pretty satisfied with the little package we did get.
