Nimbus 2003
Jul. 24th, 2003 02:33 pmOne of the better reviews I've read of Nimbus 2003 from an unbiased source. http://www.sptimes.com/2003/07/24/Floridian/Wizards_in_love.shtml
Man... I really wish I had the gutts to go :-) Maybe I can find someone to drag to the next one. I'm too antisocial to go to a con where I don't know ANYONE. I'd just hide in the corner frightened. LOL OK, not that bad, I've been to normal conferences alone... but those were for similarly antisocial geeks and I didn't mingle much at those either. I think I need to bring my sister. She's the outgoing, talkative one in the family. I dunno where she got that trait... must have developed in her before we adopted her or something *shrug* Ohhh I should have tried dragging my boyfriend- though I doubt he would have gone. We're both supposed to be working our asses off on The Thesis anyway. Though right now I think he could have used the break.
Point is, MAN, from all the personal accounts I've heard, looks like it was a lot of fun! Looking forward to seeing another one... maybe I'll work up the courage by then ;-)

Date: 2003-07-24 07:37 pm (UTC)Yes it was fun chatting last night- and I hope it gave you some good ideas for the fic :-) I am indeed looking forward to the next section! My new Pirates fic is only 7 pages right now(though I can't work on it for another few days)... it's starting to go slower, but I've got enough in my head to keep it going for a while yet... not as long as yours, though! heehee! I'll get all prepared to start 'Awwww'ing! :-)

Date: 2003-07-24 08:06 pm (UTC)I'm not sure when it's going to be done... I think it's going to be a three-parter... and I only have part 1 done and part 2 started. But I want to see where it goes before I post anything. I'd actually like to write it quickly so the style/tone is consistant. And I'd prefer to finish it all before posting any of it. But we'll see how it goes as I continue to write.

Date: 2003-07-24 09:29 pm (UTC)I don't know if people think I'm good... but I do indeed write them *G* I think the main thing to do is to let it revolve around something more than just hugging/kissing but integrate the affection and sweet talk in. Even a midnight stroll or a drink or something... you know?

Date: 2003-07-24 11:06 pm (UTC)-Will could play with a lock of her hair, she used to have ringlet when she was small, he could wrap a strand around his finger.
-Elizabeth could trace the lines and calluses in his tough blacksmith hands
-Some sort of kissing game(dunno what, it'd have to be integrated into the conversation topic, whatever that is)
-There are a whole lot of gentle touches they could give each other, based on the mood. Will could be lying with his head on her chest and she could be playing with his hair. Or he could be massaging her shoulders. Or caressing her face on the way to a kiss.
Just think about what feels right as you write... what flows... what do you see them doing in your head...
If the mood is a little more... shall we say passionate(?)... I'd suggest a more vigorous massage. Or having one sit in the other's lap, with the other fondling from behind. Will could be whispering details to her, telling her to imagine the sea, and recreate the sensations as he describes them... wind in her hair (he sweeps back her hair and blows behind her ear, then nibbles there/kisses), gentle rocking(he rocks her forward and back), a sudden course correction and turn(and he wraps is arms around her as they lean or holds her, er, chest to keep her from tipping to far forward), etc.
All depends on how heated you want it to get, and the conversation, obviously.
Nimbus 2005?
Date: 2003-07-25 06:18 am (UTC)C'mon! Let's all try and go! It would be so awesome and by then we will have three movies out! We play the whole Harry Potter phenomenon up for all it's worth. We have one room in the house as our "Magic Room" - posters and pix from the movies up on the walls, broom mounted on one wall, Owl cage and little Hedwig in place - all the books displayed together, our own magic wands out for show (and use, if need be!) It was the same when OotP came out - of course we went, and made a huge deal out of it, because it is an extremely important literary event that my kids will always remember. We have a little magic club at our house - we went out last night, with a thnderstorm brewing in the distance - and did a Wand Dedication ceremony with the members - We are throwing Harry a bday part next Thursay - there is just so much to do with Harry Potter! Schools offer book clubs with these books - just think of the ideas we could get at a big symposium!
Harry Potter is only getting bigger and I want to be a prt of it all, don't you!
Re: Nimbus 2005?
Date: 2003-07-25 06:26 am (UTC)But yes, I totally agree. The plans for Nimbus 2005 already in motion are very encouraging. I will be out of an income completely in about 3 weeks, absolutely no prospect for a job... so saving isn't going to be top on my list right now. But hopefully in a year from now I'll be much more stable. But it WOULD be fun to meet up with people online there. I met some nice people from online at a Highlander convention I went to- was really fun putting faces to the names finally. And when it's a fandom concerned, there's just so much excitement and passion that it's hard to feel too nervous :-)
I sometimes wish I had kids just so I could do fun stuff like that. I'm totally going to be one of those arts and crafts, encourage your kids' creativity sort of moms. The magic room sounds fantastic! Not to mention inspirational! A wand ceremony! Oohhhh I would LOVE a book club in my area! Luckily, I volunteer at an elementary school so I can always pump my girls for fun Harry Potter discussions- we made a Harry Potter website when I was teaching them how to make websites :-) But man... Nimbus 2003 looked fantastic- all the games and such, and I really would have loved to see that pannel on ships.
And now I'm dying to buy second copies of all the books so I can mark up the fannon the way they did! :-) Must be so helpful when writing!
I'm rambling, sorry! But yeah, it would be so much fun to go to the next one!
