Caught up on Star Trek
Oct. 21st, 2020 04:09 pmI am officially finally caught up on Star Trek! I cried through the last five minutes of Discovery's Episode 1 of Season 3. But I thoroughly appreciated the handkerchief-related hurt/comfort in the episode as well.
I have felt a part of every Star Trek crew I've ever watched, but I don't think I've ever felt quite so emotionally manipulated as I do when watching Discovery--especially the last half of each season. There's always a powerful twist that hits me right in the stomach and hurts me until the finale. I yelled at the screen so many times during the last half of Season 1. And I swore a lot during the last half of Season 2 (and cried a bit as well). I don't appreciate this and, yet, it is so fantastically satisfying to watch this crew save the galaxy over and over again that I couldn't stop watching if I tried. Such great writing.
I can't wait for Strange New Worlds! I'm less excited about Section 31, because I like things in the Federation to be orderly and follow certain, public rules and codes. An autonomous organization operating both inside and outside it with dubious morality and law enforcement abilities makes me nervous. But I do love Philippa Georgiou, and I never say no to Trek.

The one new ST thing I actually do want to watch is Below Decks or Lower Decks or whatever it’s called. I love a good-natured parody. But I don’t have CBS all access.
