I am officially finally caught up on Star Trek! I cried through the last five minutes of Discovery's Episode 1 of Season 3. But I thoroughly appreciated the handkerchief-related hurt/comfort in the episode as well.

I have felt a part of every Star Trek crew I've ever watched, but I don't think I've ever felt quite so emotionally manipulated as I do when watching Discovery--especially the last half of each season. There's always a powerful twist that hits me right in the stomach and hurts me until the finale. I yelled at the screen so many times during the last half of Season 1. And I swore a lot during the last half of Season 2 (and cried a bit as well). I don't appreciate this and, yet, it is so fantastically satisfying to watch this crew save the galaxy over and over again that I couldn't stop watching if I tried. Such great writing.

I can't wait for Strange New Worlds! I'm less excited about Section 31, because I like things in the Federation to be orderly and follow certain, public rules and codes. An autonomous organization operating both inside and outside it with dubious morality and law enforcement abilities makes me nervous. But I do love Philippa Georgiou, and I never say no to Trek.

I’ve watched exactly zero of ST:Discovery. It’s interesting because TNG and DS9 (and SW) were my biggest obsessions in my teens. I only watched a little over 1 season of Voyager though, and only the pilot of Enterprise. I blame the killing of Jadzia for making me switch gears to X-Files. And I made the mistake of Kes being my favorite in season 1 of Voyager. I have a bad track record of leaving fandoms after my fave leaves the show. I should finish them eventually. It was so worth it to watch seasons 6-10 of Sg1, though I doubt I would have gone back if Daniel hadn’t so hmmm....

Also I switched to LOTR and a few anime and I think the timing for that was around when Mulder was gone from X-Files. I did watch the end of XF, but never did watch every episode during the Doggett and Reyes years. I should probably clarify I don’t ever actually leave fandoms as I still love the older content and never really leave that behind, I just leave shows unfinished.
Not sure why I actually watched series 4 of Torchwood though. Maybe morbid curiosity, maybe looking for table scraps in the form of “will Ianto be mentioned or referenced?” Didn’t really enjoy the experience.

The one new ST thing I actually do want to watch is Below Decks or Lower Decks or whatever it’s called. I love a good-natured parody. But I don’t have CBS all access.

Oh! I did watch two episodes of ST:Picard! I liked it (with a few misgivings about the state of the Federation and the galaxy) but again, no CBS all access. I will finish at least that one someday.
