Gay Marriages...
Jul. 31st, 2003 07:06 amOK... it's certainly no surprise that I'm not a huge fan of the current US president's opinions. I'm not attacking the guy- I don't know him personally or anything. His political views just don't mesh with my own. On almost every conceivable level.
So I just had to share from a recent cnn article about his stand on gay marriages: http://www.cnn.com/2003/ALLPOLITICS/07/30/bush.gay.marriage/index.html
"I believe marriage is between a man and a woman, and I think we ought to codify that one way or another," Bush told reporters at a White House news conference. "And we've got lawyers looking at the best way to do that."
What? Last I checked, the best way to do that is to get a man and a woman together and have them sign a marriage license. Last I checked, that's already part of a number of laws.
As for what he believes... can't SOMEONE teach him how to word things better? I believe in the Loch Ness Monster, that doesn't mean it's real. Perhaps the phrase "should be" should have been in that sentence of his? *shakes head* Because honestly, Mr.President, PLENTY of marriages DO exist between gay people. Just because you don't believe they exist doesn't mean they don't *sigh*
OK, I'm making fun. But only because I'm miffed at this whole thing. Why can't people just get along? Why all the hatred and yelling? Really, seriously, what does it hurt people if two gay men or two gay women get married? Is more love, legalized, fair, safe love REALLY going to tear our nation apart MORE than this debating and yelling and mudslinging about rights and lifestyles and equality is right now?
