OK... it's certainly no surprise that I'm not a huge fan of the current US president's opinions. I'm not attacking the guy- I don't know him personally or anything. His political views just don't mesh with my own. On almost every conceivable level.

So I just had to share from a recent cnn article about his stand on gay marriages: http://www.cnn.com/2003/ALLPOLITICS/07/30/bush.gay.marriage/index.html

"I believe marriage is between a man and a woman, and I think we ought to codify that one way or another," Bush told reporters at a White House news conference. "And we've got lawyers looking at the best way to do that."
What? Last I checked, the best way to do that is to get a man and a woman together and have them sign a marriage license. Last I checked, that's already part of a number of laws.
As for what he believes... can't SOMEONE teach him how to word things better? I believe in the Loch Ness Monster, that doesn't mean it's real. Perhaps the phrase "should be" should have been in that sentence of his? *shakes head* Because honestly, Mr.President, PLENTY of marriages DO exist between gay people. Just because you don't believe they exist doesn't mean they don't *sigh*

OK, I'm making fun. But only because I'm miffed at this whole thing. Why can't people just get along? Why all the hatred and yelling? Really, seriously, what does it hurt people if two gay men or two gay women get married? Is more love, legalized, fair, safe love REALLY going to tear our nation apart MORE than this debating and yelling and mudslinging about rights and lifestyles and equality is right now?

Ugh!!

I sometimes feel like Bush doesn't know what to do in office. He Stinks at dipolmatic relations and now that enough time has past since 9/11 and the Iraq war it seems like there is floundering. Don't get me wrong. I get just as frustrated with Democrats as I do with Republicans- this is about this particular person- not a grudge against a party.

Anyway... it is like you said- tarotgirl, the Vast majority of states have codified laws pertaining to homosexual marriage- and by making a national law to ban homosexual marriages won't (in my opinion) make marriages any more valid. In order for that to happen people need to take marriage more seriously and really think about commitment. My personal belief is that a homosexual can do this Just as well as a hetrosexual person.

Anyway... I'll get off my little soapbox now *chuckles* I agree with you about this being frustrating

Like I always say, don't say bad words like 'damn' or 'republican'. It shows lack of intellegence. ;D

I refuse to even waste my time reading anything this man who pretends to be the US president has to say anymore. He could not possibly say anything that I would benefit from hearing. I did however, see the headlines he and the Pope made today, and it makes me want to scream. The thing that makes me so mad about the entire "moral majority' or "right-wingers" - whatever you want to call them - is who in the world are they to tell us as consenting adults who we should be with? Why should anyone get the right to say "You can only be with women" or "you can only be with men" - it is outrageous! It is their arrogance and their absolute failure to respect other's rights to a happy life that make that group of people so disgusting. They will go and quote the Bible, but I say if you do believe in God, then you must believe that S/He loves us all and wants us to BE GOOD TO ONE ANOTHER!!! Is this not part of every religion? And what are they doing - they are out there trying to ruin people's lives or at the very least, trying to ensure that they will never have the full measure of happiness. This "moral majority" has always demonstrated the height of selfishness because they strive in EVERY case I am aware of to keep the good things in life among themselves - they seek laws to keep the rich richer and the poor poorer, they seek to keep those who have been discriminated against on the receiving end of discrimination, - to name just a few - and now they are seeking laws to keep the benefits of marriage away from people who have never shared those privileges. It is despicable and anyone who has a conscience should take every opportunity to denounce them and their ways, because those ideas are certainly NOT of any God that I would revere.

Talk about getting on your soap-boxes! But once I get started...
