Oohhhhhhh I'm really terrible...
Aug. 25th, 2003 01:40 amI'm horrible, in fact. I have absolutely NO income right now... and I just spent $100 at Walmart. Technically, $105.19
Wow.
I bought important things like catfood and printer paper and folders... but also, erm, a mattress pad to put on my fouton so it doesn't hurt to sit down on it, a set of Yaffa blocks to hold my video tapes which are currently spread out on my floor in stacks with a radius of roughly four feet around the entertainment "cabinet"(which is just a big, deep shelving unit my parents had when they were in college and is literally wooden and in pieces) and... Highlander Season 2 on DVD.
YES! I know, I'm terrible! I can't afford it... but... it was all alone at the store... all the other copies bought and taken to loving homes and... well, I know I'll give it such a loving home... and I'm DYING to see the Euro minutes on some of these episodess... and I would have bought it anyway, it was only a matter of time... but... I'm terrible.
Speaking of terrible, I'm off to watch more of Apollo 13 (replaying it tonight) and wait for the lovely hugging "warm up" scene
I also like the ducttape "we have to build this using nothing but this" scene... but not as much as the warm hugging. Cute men *sigh*

Date: 2003-08-25 06:32 am (UTC)I was standing at the $10 DVD rack for at least 5 minutes, looking to my left to see Sleepy Hollow (which boyfriend has on DVD but I do not) and to my right to see Edward Scissorhands(which I only have taped-off-the-tv)
But in the end, I bought the $65.95 DVD set. Ah well. It's $89.95 dollars and additional shipping and handling if I'd bought it through The Highlander Store (online/mail catalog) And It's $2 cheaper than amazon.com... and it came with a collector's edition Highlander medallion. LOL I'm such a sucker! :-)
So I couldn't justify another $20 of DVD's on top of that. :-) Ah well :-) But I agree... and I did need to treat myself.

Date: 2003-08-25 07:00 am (UTC)To make it worse, I've got my eye on the season 3 boxset of Stargate SG-1, several anime boxsets, and I really need a major wardrobe overhaul for work clothes too. At least I have a job that pays well now, but I need to show some restraint and not buy all these things at once, or I won't be able to pay rent and utilities every month.
Anyway, the whole point of this rambling post was to show you that you're not alone in spending lots of money on 'luxury items' and feeling guilty about it later. My theory is that life is short and you deserve to reward yourself when you've been working as hard as I know you've been to finish your projects!

Date: 2003-08-25 09:37 am (UTC)Wow... I'm a total candle whore so I phased out dreamily at the beginning of your post and had to reread it *G*
Yeah... I'd say you made me feel a lot better about my purchases. Though with the cat- that's necessary.(Well, not the declawing- I'm not really so approving of that for safety reasons) But costs for dependants aren't really luxeries either. I say this as I remember I bought my cat a $30 water bowl...
And yes, even with a good job so much at one time might not be the best thing... but you're exactly right. What's the point of living if you can't enjoy it? What's the point of having a place and ability to buy things if you can't surround yourself with things that make you happy?
As for future DVD purchases... ohhh... don't get me started! My list is already too long thanks to all these box sets! When I was checking on amazon's price for Highlander it tried to push the new Indiana Jones set on me... way too tempting. And I'm going to be so happy when Wolf's Rain is finally out on DVD, especially with the extra 4 episodes *sigh*
What was my point again? I've forgotten. Pretty candles........
