Nov. 8th, 2003 01:31 amFinished season 1... crying still... gods that is some fantastic acting... and writing... and I honestly don't think I could make it through this last episode without falling in love with Brian/Justin at the dance and then sobbing my heart out at the end. I know he's going to be okay, it, oh, just hurts so much! I really fell in love with those characters.
And as for the Ted/Blake moments at the end of the season... it's very interesting to watch those now that I've seen season 3. And it's really neat that they used some of the exact same lines Blake had for Ted when he was using at the end of season 3. Again, that's some GOOD writing. Poor sweet Teddy.
I managed to leave my apartment and not notice my package sitting right in front of the door where it must have been all day *G* YAY! I have Knight Hunters on DVD now! And it came with an AmineWorks Series sampler DVD to hook me on more anime. heehee *G* Very happy I am now! It's like taking the first step into an addiction. I'm just happy opening it up and staring at all the pretty boys on the DVDs. Yeah. I've lost it. LOL! I cannot wait until Wolf's Rain comes out on DVD. Four extra episodes. Gods, I hope they explain the ending better with them.
I'm trying to finish up an Obi story, but QAF keeps distracting me. I need to at least make it through Justin's recovery tonight or I'll be depressed all night! heehee

Date: 2003-11-08 02:25 pm (UTC)Yay for WK on DVD! Enjoy! And make sure you watch the seiyuu interviews at the end of each disk. They're hysterical! (And subtitled, so you can make out more than just the few names that they say in English. That made me MOST happy.) The first step in to an addiction? Oh, it is that. I've got a t-shirt, "Anime: drugs would be cheaper", and it's so true.
Good luck with the Obi-fic. (And why was it that my fingers typed "Omi" instead of "Obi"? My brain isn't stuck on one track today, is it? *GRIN*)

Date: 2003-11-08 09:39 pm (UTC)It starts out so similar (I made a humorous music video to that end, comparing both pilots). But then Pill dies and Ted does not... and the series start going in different directions. All right, lots of what happens in the UK version happens in the US version (Vince's 'girl' at work, his bday party, Nathan stalking Stuart, Stuart's time with his greedy/bigot of a nephew, etc) But honestly there are SO many differences as well. I really do see Mikey and Vince as completely different characters after the first few episodes... and the same with Justin and Nathan. Stuart and Brian took a while longer (maybe half a season), but they really did become completely different stand-alone characters to me. There are just some similarities between them.
I LOVE Stuart/Vince, for example. But I'd never support Brian/Michael because, although there is sexual tension there during season 1 and a bit throughout, they really do 'friends' better than anybody else on the show and I wouldn't want to see them as anything else.
They really do start to become separate characters- I promise you! And each group/ensemble starts standing out in different ways on its own. Of course, a lot of that I attribute to the fact that the US version is so long compared to what the UK version got. I really sort of wish Alexander, Bernie and Hazel(sp?) had got their own spinoff series as was planned. That would have been loads of fun.
Anyway... I'd say give it a shot... might surprise you. Just don't sit and compare all the time like I did at first :-) Because it's not fair to the characters... they're allowed to stray from the original- even if the original is great- and go in different directions :-) And the cultures are different, as well, which helps. Each series addresses issues more pertinent to their viewers.
Anyway, just my two cents as one of the few fans of both :-)
I went through a disk or two last night, jumping to my favorite scenes... *G* The picture jumps a tiny little bit... it's barely noticable... but it makes me nervous.
And I haven't found/seen any of the seiyuu interviews at the end... I'm hoping I was just an idiot and missed them! *crossing fingers* Because I really would like to see them!
When I was in Northern VA this last time visiting the folks, on our day out I dragged my mother into at least 3 different stores looking at the anime. Just couldn't pass up the chance. Though sad to see that most of my favorite series weren't there... though I shouldn't wonder. I wouldn't put a lot of hard yaoi out on display in a mall famous for its teeny-boppers either. But, yes, definititely an additction... a very expensive one. When my mother was blown away at how much the separate volumes of X were going for I told her about that shirt (as you mentioned it to me previously) She got a big laugh out of it.
