GAH!!!
I knew there was something bad about getting a ground floor (or suken in my case) apartment. I've had an ant problem for a few months now... though I've been in denial about it. I don't know where they're coming from, either. The problem has been isolated to my bathroom and I'm about 80% sure they're coming out of the drains. Ew!
I love insects, don't get me wrong. I used to have 2000 worms in my basement for years as pets. And I never kill spiders. And I'd much rather release insects into the wild then kill them, if given the chance. I can totally see myself as one of those Buddhist monks who refuses to move lest he step on an ant by mistake and kill it. However... I have much less patience for the little insects when they're in my house.
I just came back from spraying them with lysol... the little guys were all over my (now pitched) toothbrush *cringe* That's when I freak. Last time I freaked(about a month and a half ago), I came home after a day away to find a least 50 ants in my bathtub, all swarming around the drain. I went spray crazy then, too. Ug. And I can't use anything "powerful" because my cat loves hanging out in the bathroom and especially the tub/shower. Grrrr! My parents bought me SimAnt (computer game) many years back... you'd think I'd be more forgiving of the little guys after that, wouldn't you?
I'll shut up now... just hoping my recent madness will hold them off for a while.

Date: 2003-03-09 07:25 pm (UTC)Luckily, they have not made it into my kitchen(though I have very little food) only my bathroom near sink and tub. I had a fruit fly problem in my kitchen about a month after I moved in and have been extra careful since. As for the ants... so far, they seem to have been persuaded to go elsewhere after my furious cleaning last night. I've seen one or two, but no swarms.
It's actually got a rather cute side- my cat has taken to chasing them. All I have to do is point one out and he's all over it. He paws at them but if they turn direction and come at him, he jumps away. He doesn't kill them or anything, just stalks them. It's pretty funny but dangerous to watch when you've got a mouth full of mouth rinse.

Date: 2003-03-09 07:38 pm (UTC)My cat's biggest claim to fame is that he plays fetch like a dog. It's amazing really. I found him as a stray and he just started doing it the day after I took him in. He'll go to any lengths to track down the mouseys I throw and bring them right back to me, including rinning head-first into walls or diving off the end of the table. And he'll do it for hours on end. :-)
Aside from the fact that he's very needy (he's got to be able to see me at all times or he cries) and likes to eat plastic bags, he's a perfect little kitty :-)
