*SOB* I just watched ER. Oh my... I honestly don't think I can ever get into a helicopter now. *sob* I won't mention spoilers as I remember some people are on the west coast and have yet to see it, but I was sobbing hard at the end of the episode and screaming at the characters to realize that a particular one was dead. *sob* Every time they mentioned the character's name I'd yell "That's because he/she's dead!" (Obviously I used the proper gender, I'm just doing that for spoiler reasons) Oh man... the irony... and tragedy... and GODS I'm sad!
And so I'm in tears and I sit down and check e-mail, and what do I find out? Jonathan Brandis (I know, I'm showing my age, but I loved the guy ever since The Never-Ending Story) killed himself. Apparently on the 12th... I just found out now *sob* Soooo sad! I loved him to death on Seaquest DSV. Now that's one series I would love on DVD. So much of its quirky look comes through on Stargate SG1 :-) And Johnathan was the reason I watched that show to begin with. *sniffles*
NOT a happy night! *sniffles*
Now I get to go polish off the list of challenges/bunnies for the next Sneezefic Challenge!

Date: 2003-11-21 05:58 am (UTC)I saw it too! When the whole thing first started, and they were going up in the elevator, I was actually feeling a little sorry for this character..and I don't know how you feel about this one, but I have hard a hard time giving up ANY sympathy for him. I am rather ashamed to say it now, but I didn't even feel bad for him when he lost the stinking arm! But I have to say that the actor did an awesome job portraying the feeling he had when he got up there and started remembering that incident, and when he had to run outside and get some air and he just stood there gasping, I actually felt realll, really sympathetic towards him. And I guess that is the last time I will feel that for him...b/c he's certainly not going to need any sympathy any more! Whoa! That was quite a shock!
And you know, I have seen the actor who protrays Romano on different talk shows overthe years, and you could not ask for a nicer guy, he is the complete opposite of his character. I am truly going to miss seeing him on there...I have kind of a thing for bald guys (who SHAVE their heads, not who just got old and lost their hair!!) and so even though I didn't like the character, I was attracted!!! I will miss him!!!
On the other hand, I was pleased for Pratt, b/c I have said for a long time...last year sometime, that he is an awesome doctor! He takes more "risks" than others, tries things no one else might try, but he knows things no one else knows either, and he gives 100% for his patients, and I have thought for a long time that it's a shame that he gets dissed by the others so often. But not tonight! I was watching with my daughter (10) and she ans I were both cheering!
OK, enough ER. What did you think of Johnny Depp getting name "Sexiest Man Alive" ? I thought it was a brilliant choice!!! Just my .02

Date: 2003-11-21 06:39 am (UTC)As for bonus features on the extended version- honestly, I'm not the person to ask about that. Lady Korana or Hermione probably are. I've watched most of the first bonus disk and select parts of second... I really just jump around a heck of a lot. I just like seeing the actors out of their roles mostly. *G* It's been a long while since I explored that disk set, though. I'm dying to listen to another one of the full commentaries.
Now, as for ER... I actually started liking Romano a bit before his accident. I started understanding him... his character got a lot deeper than the snippy, uptight, typical-surgeon bastard. Then when he lost his arm I was very sympathetic for him. I know I'd probably go insane if I lost my sight or the ability to type/write. OF course there are ways around it and ways of dealing with it, but he was denied premium support(in a replacement arm) and had to give up the one thing he was perfect and fantastic at. That would kill me. Annalisa had a theory earlier in the season that he was going to kill himself, so when he died tonight I was sobbing and feeling horrible about the irony(especially since he was the one who wrote the order to have the patient transferred!) but I'm glad it wasn't suicide. Those damn helicopters!!!
As for Prat... he's not my favorite guy... he feels like... I dunno... but I usually could care less if he gets yelled at or if he succeeds. I do like his approaches sometimes- and you're right, he does give it his all. But I'm the sort of person who never, ever takes risks, so I have a very hard time understanding why he does most of what he does. It just doesn't fit logically into my mind. But that's just my own personal feelings about him. Usually I stick up for the other characters when they diss him, I must admit. Maybe also because I've known them longer and are more used to their styles?
Oh, as for the actor- Oohhhh yes- he is SUCH a sweetheart! With a great sense of humor, too. I could just see him laughing bigtime when he read(or even suggested!) how his character would be killed off. And his acting today was top-notch!!
As for bald men...*drool* I don't mind balding men(as long as they don't try to hide it or combover or something like that) but guys who shave their heads.... Mmmmmmmm... VERY yummy indeed! I kept admiring the bits of grey in Romano's beard during the episode tonight. I like when guys look natural about that sort of thing... very sexy when they accept their appearance with the dignity and pride that comes with age and wisdom.
Anyway... I'm definitely going to miss him. But the character was terribly depressed, so I certainly think it's better this way, in the end.

Date: 2003-11-21 06:49 am (UTC)They haven't said for *certain* that it was suicide but that's how it looks. Article about it: http://tv.zap2it.com/tveditorial/tve_main/1,1002,271|84772|1|,00.html
It's a nice article, though the picture... *sigh* Is it wrong to think such naughty thoughts about the dead? He's got such a strong, deep, powerful look... not quite brooding... just... strong...thoughtful...
Did you ever see him in IT? I'm not sure I can watch that movie without crying through the whole thing now(I used to just cry at the end!) what with both Johnathan and John Ritter in it. Hope no one else was named John in that movie, I'm sensing a pattern...
But I loved him in Seaquest, especially. I really fell in love with the character... cute, smart guy who talks to a dolphin? What's not to love? I must have seen the episode where he and three others are trapped up on top of the ocean in that little raft (in the rain and he's all cold and soaking wet) at least 50 times.
Man... SO sad! I hadn't seen him in anything recently, but from his filmography he seems to have been doing fine with indie pictures and things. Which I, personally, admire actors for doing much more than the big blockbusters.

ER
Date: 2003-11-21 07:07 am (UTC)How could they do that? Romano kicked ass! It's gonna be so boring without him! Well, I hope that they bring back Carter...
Boo Yeah! Did I not tell you that Romano would die? Ok ok so I thought that he would kill himself, but yeah, his character was too much of a (pardon the french) shit disturber in the ER. But aww like Tg, I also really understood his character, and part of me wanted him to hook up with Corday. I kno, I'm a bit creepy that way, but they were both lonely and had bad things happen to them, they would have been a good pair. She was the only one that could make him behave, and he put her in her place, she's firey that one. lol.
And yea, he's a nice enuff guy in real life, i wonder if he wanted to leave the show, or if he got "killed off" as they say. ;-/
I wish that they didn't do that, but now i'm curious to see how everyone will react next week. Didn't cry tho, the one that I cried in was Mark Green, aww man every time i see that one, i cry! *sob* Mark was so my fave!
Ah yea, Johnny Depp, Yayyyy! I'm happy, altho I wish that they'd consider Ewan...hmm i guess they're too mainstream for him. But yay Johnny! He's definately deserving!

Re: ER
Date: 2003-11-21 07:21 am (UTC)I think Romano and Elizabeth would have made a very good couple... especially since she really seems to understand him, deep down. And yet she still fights against him. She doesn't *just* fight out of spite or stubbornness the way most characters did with Romano.
And yes, you totally called that death! Though I'm now glad he went down in a blaze, so to speak, rather than suicide. And the helicopter... gah... poor guy... truly. Must have been terrifying. I cried- certainly not as hard as with Mark... or at many other times on the show. But gah... poor guy!!!
I, too, and REALLY curious about how the other characters will react! I was getting very angry at them by the end, shouting "He's DEAD!" every time they mentioned his name. And stupid student lighting up in the parking lot didn't even MENTION seeing Romano out there to right before the accident! I kept expecting something profound as far as the pictures- like a picture of the helicopter crashing down outside in the background. But, alas, looks like they're just going to have to figure it out the hard way.
Is it a new episode next week, or a repeat? I got the impression that it wasn't going to be on(due to Thanksgiving) and we'll have to wait. My station didn't play the "next time on ER" promo like usual. But my NBC affiliate is weird, so I was just wondering.
Re: ER
Date: 2003-11-22 05:24 am (UTC)Oh, you guys, you had to bring up Mark Green...the best thing going on that show forever...I *did* watch his goodbye episode and it was a killer emotionally, but a wonderful show...Mark got to end things on his own terms, and with those he loved around him, just the way he would have wanted. I miss him every time I see Elizabeth...but I never wanted to see her with Romano! He was too negative and too mean, and he really didn't have that much respect for women...he *thought* he could respect her, but I think Elizabeth could see through that...she knew that sooner or laterm he would turn on her too. And Elizabeth demands respect...as all of us should! But back to Romano...I noticed that gray in his beard too! It was quite attractive! 100% in agreement there! And yeah, now that the real baddie is gone, who will be the bad guy in the show?
Carter's gotta be coming back soon. Do you think he and Luka will fight over the new nurse (Sam( like they did over Abby?

Re: ER
Date: 2003-11-22 12:52 pm (UTC)You're right about not respecting her much of the time... but I think he's surprised even himself at times in being impressed by some things she does. And I think he sees a lot of himself, and a lot of what he wants (especially in the feistines-sp?) in her. I think it would have been an interesting relationship. But I also think it's MUCH too soon for her to be with anyone... it's too soon for me, at least, to see Mark's wife with anyone other than him!
*EG* Mmmm... Sexy aging/older men. Yay for your good taste! :-)
As for baddies... maybe they'll bring in someone new? Or Karrie will reclaim the title?(Though I've really enjoyed the softer, sweeter side she's shown in the last few years so I personally wouldn't like that) Or maybe Pratt will start getting too cocky for his own good? lol
I don't think I saw enough of last season to be able to comment about Carter vs. Luka. I have a feeling that with the sharing hard conditions and times/almost dying/retrieving body/saving life thing that they won't fight as much any more. Carter just seems to want to avoid formal relationships... so I don't know. It's ER... things change so fast on that show! lol

Date: 2003-11-21 04:47 pm (UTC)As for IT, the book was *far* scarrier than the movie, IMHO. And they took out a lot of great parts... like some of the characters sneezing... and the group orgy... and lots of the history of terror... wait, I'm not doing a good job of selling this now, am I? LOL But I *adore* Tim Curry(the clown) and the clown was only one incarnation of the monster... the real form was... well... think Shelob or Aragog...
I love Stephen King, but I can only take his more phychological terrifying stories. I don't do horror at all. But I love the idea of a being that transforms into your greatest fear... wait a moment... think boggart... LOL
Anyhoo, it's a really good book. And Johnathan Brandis was fantastic in the role- he played my favorite character (who stutters and is VERY angsty because he brother gets killed during the opening credits) But there's as much bonding and cuteness that makes me think of 'Stand by Me' as there is scary-ness.
