It's highly tempting... damnit, why must I be so in love with winter? Most people want to take cruises to exotic islands or lie out on the beach and get sun burned on their honeymoon. I, on the other hand, would like nothing more than a snowed-in cabin in the woods with a fireplace and a bunch of blankets. *sigh* Highly romantic, IMHO. More-so than sweating and being all hot and miserable. Ick. Who wants to have sex when you're all hot and sweaty? Okay, so I did it to Qui and Obi in 'Sweet Medicine' but that's the exception.
Point is... it's so hard for me to resist a winter challenge of any sort!! And this winter especially I'm going to be quite busy already with this thesis! Gah! The horror! The horror!
Though, on the bright side, I think I came up with a thesis statement last night! I'd use a Rocky Horror analogy right now, but probably no one would get it. So let's just say it's funny that now that I'm nearly done with the thesis, I come up with the point of it.
Damn I want to write about Legolas and Gimli snogging in the snow. BADLY! *bites lip* Maybe a short story won't kill me? *looks around nervously*

Problem is, I don't LIKE Draco. I love Snape, and Lucious is *dead* sexy (I have a Lucius fic in the words) But Draco... gah...
ACTUALLY... now that I'm sifting through my lists of bunnies, I do have a small Draco one in there... oddly enough. It's Snape/Lucius to some extent, and it originally had been Snape/Draco but the student/teacher thing squicks me. I wrote a Snape/Draco where Draco's older and that was fine... I don't think I could do one where he's younger, though.
ANYWAY, if you want, I could explore it a little... after I fix this damn freaking code that keeps breaking on me... GRRR! Stupid thesis!!!! Stupid users!!!! Stupid code!!!!

Date: 2003-11-23 06:58 pm (UTC)Seriously, I'm sorry you're struggling with your thesis. It'll get better, I promise. When I was working on my final project for pharmacy school, I went through days where I broke down in tears and was convinced that they were going to fail me after I'd made it through 6 years of expensive classes and I was gonna wind up with no degree and hopelessly in debt. I've never felt so good as I did the day it was all over though. As Sam says 'But in the end, it's only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come...and when the sun shines, it'll shine out the clearer.'
So you'll get through it, I know you will!
On a lighter note, I totally agree with you about these winter challenges. I adore fics with snow in them, and characters getting sopping wet and freezing cold, and all the fun that eventually entails in the warming up process! I know I didn't end up writing anything for the Halloween challenge, but I'm feeling totally inspired write now, and I've already jotted down and saved notes for not one, but two Legolas fics! Hopefully, I'll be able to finish at least one of them in time...

Date: 2003-11-23 07:09 pm (UTC)One of my users broke my project Friday, and I only just found out this morning. Gah. I feel like an idiot! So instead of getting up early and getting into writing the damn paper, instead I had to fix files and code and spent 3 hours redoing all the data to find that the problem was the user had put arrows around one of his words and my code must have thought it was an HTML tag or something. Anyway, it broke all my files and did some other weird stuff... so I'm no entirely convinced it was that... But the point is, GAH! I'm NOT in a happy writing mood as far as thesis anymore. But it *IS* nice to know I'm not the only one who's had problems with such projects. Putting years and years of work into a project and then standing in front of people and defending it? What the HELL was I thinking?! LOL
I can't defend my choice of food, let alone a 4 year project(that gets broken by stupid < characters!)

Anyhoo... my secret desire, challenge-wise, is to write stories for every one of the plot bunnies... Or at least all the ones I didn't make up, myself. I'm not admitting it to myself yet, not with all the RL work I have to do... but that's my secret desire. And there's more than room for a sniffley, snow-soaked elf being carted over to a warm fireplace by his scruffy, snuggly dwarf *EG* I would, er, have to tone it down on the sneezing if I ever wanted to be brave enough to submit it outside the sneezing world. But it's highly tempting, at any rate *G*

Date: 2003-11-23 08:06 pm (UTC)I'm VERY excited to see what kind of fics come out of this challenge! I've been so very desperate for Legolas fics for such a long time now, I hope I'm not the only one who writes about him.
I do imagine there will be a slight increase in LOTR fics shortly after ROTK comes out though. I can't wait to see the throne room, the Houses of Healing, maybe some of the other rooms in the King's dwelling! I've read so many fanfics using these locations, it will be like watching them come to life, kinda like that added line in Helm's Deep where Legolas tells Aragorn to rest. Straight out of a h/c type fic, that line was :)

It's no fun to write stories to challenges you make up completely yourself. And ooohhh combination fics... my favorite. Sure to be packed full of yumminess! I can't wait!
And yes, I must admit I've thought the same thing- that there will be a surge of LotR fics after the third movie. LOL! As though I'm not anticipating the movie enough already! I'm *so* looking forward to the visuals, The Houses of Healing especially! Though if there are more yummy h/c lines, as well, I wouldn't be dissappointed!
