tarotgal: (Attention Whore)
Sorry I haven't been around a lot. This was a BUSY two weeks... and it hasn't let up yet!

Fall for the Book Festival- KICKASS! Rita Mae Brown- strange but hilarious and awesome. Christ Baty of NaNoWriMo fame- INCREDIBLY cool. He gave out free posters to the first people there and he autographed mine to me (I forgot to bring my book... but he was cool and didn't make me buy another). His talk was SO inspiring. And afterwards I got invterviewed about the session by a journalism student. But, yeah, I can't wait until Nov now! Bring on the novel!

NaNoWriMo- speaking of which, I still haven't made a decision about what to write... but I'm leaning towards this new idea I just came up with instead of the idea I've been throwing around for a year now. I'm nervous about picking the wrong one and being stuck all month. But either way I'll give it a good shot.

National Book Festival- the festival was SO cool. Why didn't I get my butt out of bed and go last year? Soooooooooooo awesome. I heard/saw: Susan Vreeland (I've been dying to read Luncheon of the Boating Party and as I wandered into the sales tent they were just putting out copies of her book- signed by the author! I bought one and avoided standing in lines *G*), Lalita Tademy, Terry Pratchett (who ROCKED!!), and Joyce Carol Oates. I had a nice lunch on the grass by the carosel and the 'vegetarian fare' stand. I visited the graffiti wall at the Library of Congress tent. I walked by the PBS characters tent but it was a mob scene and I didn't get a glimpse at Mr. McFeely (Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood).
Then I met up with BookCrossers in front of the Natural History Museum and that was great. I spent the rest of the day with them- handing out free books to passers-by and just talking/having fun. I met a few BookCrossers I knew online and had never met before so that was especially neat.

BookCrossing- I got an article published in the BookCrossing Newsletter yesterday. AND further down on the newsletter the best/latest wild release catch section features my latest catch as the very first one! So I was in the newsletter TWICE! How neat-o!! I feel so special :-)

Capitals Pre-Season Game- Then I got to go to a Capitals pre-season game on Sunday! We got tickets out of the blue and the seats were 12 or 13 rows back from the ice. Sooooooooo much better than the "Eagle's Nest" seats on the third floor. heehee I also took the opportunity to buy a Capitals jersey. I've never had one before and now that we have the snazzy new uniforms, I decided it was time. I chose white, which is away color but which I like better (assuming I don't spill stuff on it, it will last me a long time). We lost the game, 2 to 1 but we outshot them by more than double and the goal scored (by Koslov of the awesome neon yellow-green hockey stick) was right in front of us. Sooooooo exciting. The Capitals are going to have a GOOD season this year, I can feel it!

Board Meeting- Yesterday our board of directors came into town. That's always a bit stressful but they're such a great group of people so it's fun, too. We had dinner last night and a board meeting today. I had to be up EARLY to get the mics set up to record. And I had to give my part about the website. I got a few laughs and a lot of applause for my work. So yay- it's nice to be appreciated by the board.

Faerie Con- I'm really excited about this. Turns out a new friend will probably be able to go as well, so we may share a room/transportation. It'll be AWESOME going to the convention at all. But it'll be even better experiencing it with someone else, too *G*

AIDS Walk- the AIDS walk is tomorrow! I'm setting my alarm clock for 5:30am and really hoping my stomach behave itself in the morning. It was awful this morning- I almost had to pull over/call ahead sick. But I recovered and I'm hoping tomorrow will be similar. I've been assigned "route" as a volunteer. I haven't worked the route since I was a senior in high school! So I'm kind of excited about that. I think I might go out and buy new sunscreen tonight after the Capitals game.......

Hockey- speaking of which- HOCKEY IS BACK! SQUEEEE!
