So... yeah. It didn't take me long to submit to my fanfic-reading urges once I finally got a little Stargate Atlantis properly watched. And it certainly didn't take me long to give into my fanfic-writing urges either. Yesterday I started a Xanthe BDSM collared-verse Rodney/John sneezefic. Mmmm. You knew it had to happen, right?

Other Stuff...

My favorite song in the whole world at this very moment is Grace Kendall's "This is My Bliss." The song always makes me tear up (especially when I see her sing it live) but in a good way. It's so beautiful and inspirational. Her whole new album is freakin awesome, though. I think I need a "This is My Bliss" LJ user icon.

Whenever I feel like shit, I have to watch the Hey Jude sing-along. It makes me cry to see so many different people brought together and smiling during such a simple thing. It renews my faith in humanity. And then I wind up watching all sorts of improv sketches that make me stop crying and start laughing and I feel better again.

Is it possible to fall in love with authors just from the way they talk about their names?
http://www.teachingbooks.net/pronunciations.cgi

The DC Nerdfighters informed me of this site tonight and now I can't stop listening to these. John Green's is great. I went through and listened to some of my favorite authors, then started at the beginning to listen to samples. I LOVE Aliki's and if it were possible to love Sherman Alexie even more than I already do, I... would. Where was that sentence trying to go? GAH! It's been a rough day.

My digestive system decided today was a good day to stage a revolt. Had possibly the worst day ever on that front. Got to work 10 minutes late because of the rain, prepared for a meeting at 11. Went to the meeting. Had half an hour to prepare for a meeting at noon. Had that meeting on the phone while sipping special stomach health tea my coworker gave me (awww, so sweet of her). Then had a 2.5 hour meeting ABOUT the 1 hour phone meeting, writing up comments to send via e-mail for our next meeting. Which left me about an hour and a half to do actual work today... which was somewhat taken up with preparing for TOMORROW's morning meeting, after which I have to go pick up consultants who are (I hope) coming via train from New York for a... can you guess? Yes! A MEETING. UGH. Awesome things are happening in these meetings, don't get me wrong. But I feel like I'm not getting ANYTHING actually accomplished. (Though I did write some pretty PHP code to process an RSS feed for our ever-expanding website news section just before I left work, so that's something).

I tried to get up at 7am to get my allergy shot this morning, but I was too exhausted. So I had to get it after work instead. The problem is, we had a MAJOR rain storm here today. Roads were flooded. Visibility was poor. It normally takes me 25 minutes to get to my allergist's... it was over an hour when I finally got there. I had to detour around roads (including going the wrong way on a one-way street, directed by police, because they'd closed a road). I also FREAKED OUT driving through a little more than a foot of water (it was up past the license plate on the car on the opposite side of the road). I know you're not supposed to drive through water that high, but everyone else was doing it and there were cars behind me and no shoulder or place to turn. I was TERRIFIED but made it through all right without flooding my engine or losing control. Most traffic lights didn't have power and I passed countless ambulances, fire trucks, and ice cream trucks (seriously, there was a fire truck at an apartment complex and next to it were 3 ice cream trucks and a fourth right in front of me, turning into the parking lot- HIH?). The drive home from the allergist should have taken 10-15 minutes. It took more than an hour. People were going 2 MPH on a 45 MPH road. Had to drive through another lake, and more streets were blocked off. My dad left work at 6 and it's been 4 hours. They closed the beltway and he's stuck on it with a bottle of Pepsi and several granola bars, that's all.

So it hasn't been a spectacular day and my stomach's still very wonky. Stupid digestive system. Grr.

BUT the happy news is that the next episode in my Stargate Atlantis watching happened to be "Irresistible" and it turned me into a big pile of squeeing goodness. Yes, please John, tell me more about your cold, thank you! Mmmm. And now I must own this series. Damn it. I already own season 2, but this is season 3 and it's cheaper just to buy the box set. Yeah. I have so much more to watch, but I kind of want to watch Irresistible all over again from the beginning. Yes. I think I will. Had a hard day. I deserve it, right? *presses play again*
