So, okay, here's my observation of the month: Not many people actually KNOW what a HEMI is.
"Son, you only need to know one thing. Hemi. Can you say Hemi?" I can say it, and I can watch as all the people on the TV stand in awe of it. Doesn't mean I have any idea what the heck it is. So it's a powerful engine. Okay. I get that. But what exactly IS a hemi? Do those people actually know? Does ANYONE?
I personally think it's this big conspiracy- put out an amazing amount of hype, create buzz-phrases like "HEMI-powered" but don't actually explain WHAT a hemi is or how it's better or anything like that. So my thinking is that no one out there actually KNOWS what a Hemi is, really. All the men just act like it's this incredible thing because they're supposed to know what it is and be impressed. And so word of mouth spreads, and no one's brave/stupid enough to admit that they've no idea what a hemi actually is. I've asked 9 guys now: "What's a Hemi?" and none have known. Or else, it's this secret men share and they can't tell me. "A really powerful engine" was about as close as I got. Yeah. Thanks. Got that much from the commercials. But why are people supposed to be so incredibly impressed with it? I think it's all just one big secret. I think that a few people do know, and a few more bother to find out. And the rest of the male population just follows along exclaiming "Ohhhh! It's HEMI-powered!" because, darnit, that's what's in right now.
After an exhaustive search, I managed to find a brief explanation about the name/make-up from The Hemi. Still no idea how much better it is... but perhaps I am not supposed to know. I just find all this hype so very amusing. Then again, I avoid car racing and all, which is where I think this whole thing started, before they were mass-produced for horrid SUV's. So it's no wonder I don't know. I just find it interesting none of the commercials bother explaining or giving specs. They just build it up and make it look fantastic. And as usual, males drool and follow blindly. I don't really WANT to know what one is... I simply enjoy watching the males drool and then not be able to answer my questions. LOL
