Is it sad when your bookstore purchases start reflecting your fandom obsessions more than being great works of literature? :-)
I bought FAKE mangas 2 & 3 today... would have bought 4 but as I'm unemployed I just couldn't rationalize $30 in one shot.

But you know what I'd really love? I'd really love to buy the entire OZ series (not OZ the HBO show, OZ as in The Wonderful Wizard of). I haven't read them since I was a little kis, and I only have two in paperback (Road to OZ and Ozma of OZ, those being two of my least favorites, oddly enough). I'd LOVE to get good hardback versions of Wonderful Wizard of OZ and The Magical Land of OZ... the illustrations in copies I remember from my childhood were so thrilling and beautiful... ACTUALLY do you know what I'd really love, now that I'm fantasizing about thing I'll never get. I'd LOVE those two books in Audio format. I used to take the audio tapes of those books (and Peter Pan, and the select works of A.A.Milne) out of the library every week. I ADORED listening to them. I can still recite passages from them, in fact. Man. If I could find audio tapes read by the same guy who read those, I'd be in heaven. But I'd still love the books for the illustrations. There's just something about the Scarecrow with pins and nails sticking out of his head or the gump with its sofa body and palm leaf wings that makes my heart skip. Heehee! Don't get me wrong, I love the Wizard of OZ movie... it just doesn't have the same magic(or character development) as the original book. Man. That would be awesome.

I also bought a book for $5 today- it's one my parents bought my sister for Christmas but didn't buy one for me. It's about pilates and yoga and stress relief in general. It's bound with a spiral so you can open it and it stays open without you having to hold it, which is good when you're learning exercises! I'm not going to learn much in the stress relief section, sadly, as I know practically everything there is to know about meditation and music and candles and breathing techniques... but the rest of the book is very useful, and it doesn't hurt to have a whole guide with everything together in one place... and for $5, I couldn't pass it up.

I started another HP marauder's fic last night. It's not a sneezefic, but it's going very well- I'm happy with it. A little worried about the final scene in it... but I'm sure it will work out when I try to write it. I'm just having trouble seeing it in my head. *crosses fingers that things will get better*

Had a productive early afternoon though. Let's see... I deposited checks at the bank... so thanks to a little bit of Christmas money I should be able to pay all the bills for this and next month. Then I bought books. Then I returned the copy of The Princess Bride on DVD that Boyfriend gave me for Christmas (as my parents got me it, too, and even though it's my FAVORITE movie in the whole entire world, I don't need two copies on DVD- I already had two copies on VHS, so 4 altogether would have been a little overwhelming) I drove around Walmart but it was SO busy I'm going to go tonight instead, and then I dropped off my cardboard recycling- the bin is 2 blocks away so I always drive it there but I don't want to make a special trip just for it since that would be against the point of trying to do my part to save the world. Anyway, I'm going to find something to eat or drink a protein shake or something and read a little bit of the sexy Dee and Ryo boys *G*

Oy, and to think I've incoprorated an image from Baum's world into my own new fic-in-progress (the one I was afraid to write), BEFORE I read this post of yours. (Music from The Twilight Zone plays in the background...)The illistrations in those books are exquisite, and I based my image (a scene of the foursome setting down the YBR) on those. Maybe one of these days, someone will purchase the rights to more children's book illustrations and make them into posters so that we can all enjoy them in larger-than-life proportions.

Dunno about you, but I always had a special fondness for the Mercer Mayer illustrations in the Great Brain series, and of course the illustrations in A.A. Milne (more his poetry collections than the Pooh series). Must go peruse the children's section of my local bookstore -- so many great illustrators to reacquaint myself with!

Oh, yes, and one more semi-sequitur: Just after I included the Oz mural in my fic, I realized that the main character is coming from Topeka to Washington State. "Cory, I don't think you're in Kansas anymore..." Oy, oy, oy.
