On my old website, I used to have my own list of Child of the 80's things. *checks quickly* Good gods, it's still on my site. LOL I'm a child of the later 80's, you might say. I remember the early 80's... just not as vividly as I do the mid-late 80's. Plus we never had cable so I lost out on some good stuff there. And some bad stuff, which I was very happy missing out on. Anyhoo...

This is gacked from Meg/Smockeycat :-) Yay! Thaks! I love lists like this :-)

You know you grew up in the 80's if:
1. You've ever ended a sentence with the word "PSYCHE " Oh dear. Yes. *feels sudden need to revive that* LOL
2. You watched the Pound Puppies. YES!!!!!!!!!!! They are still my favorite show in the entire universe. Okay, maybe slightly second to Highlander. But I was the most faithful Pound Puppies fan in the world and still adore them. In fact... I must share... this is what I call my "Childhood Corner" of my current apartment bedroom(sorry for the bad color thing going on):

Note the Pound puppies and pound purries... there's also a purrtender and my my little ponies... and a PP dog house and dish and sleeping bag and bone and books and travelling case and leash, etc. Gah. It's really a horrible picture. Point is, I still love the Pound Puppes many, many years later. *sigh* Ah, the memories of playing pound puppies with my best friend Courtney. We used to pretend they'd caught colds. LOL

3. You can sing the rap to the "Fresh Prince of Belair" "This is a story all about how my life got twist-turned upside-down..." you mean that one?
4. You wore biker shorts under your skirts and felt stylish. Never did, but honestly I still think they look neat
5. You yearned to be a member of the Baby-sitters club and tried to start a club of your own. Oh my GODS yes!!! I had the board game, I had the calendars, I had my own damn notebooks that a friend and I would write all our babysitting adventures in- the notebook was covered in official stickers that came with the calendars. I loved Jessie. Ohh and... damnit... what was her name- Claudia. She was the artist, right? And Dawn. Oh, I totally wanted to be her, all Californian and health foody and all *sigh* Gotta love stereotypes. LOL
6. You owned those lil Strawberry Shortcake pals scented dolls. I have the big strawberry house my one and only one lives in!
7. You know that "WOAH " comes from Joey on Blossom. I actually used that in conversation the other day and had a bigtime flashback. LOL
8. Two words: M.C. Hammer He was so much cooler back then, before he found Jesus. Anyone remember his cartoon show? With the shoes that talked and those big poofy pants?
9. If you ever watched "Fraggle Rock ". I STILL DO! LOL Laugh your cares away *clap-clap* I loved... damnit, what's his name... starts with a W... the cute depressed one. Red used to piss me off. I hate bossy extroverts. LOL Wembley? Was that it? I think it was. I liked him best. But, yeah, I wish it were still on. I've always wanted to visit there *G*
10. You had plastic streamers on your handle bars. My bike's name was Jane. I had birthday parties for her. I helped paint her light blue and she had streamers and a bell with a deer on it. But, yeah, once you get past the fact that I NAMED MY BIKE and had BIRTHDAY PARTIES FOR HER the streamers really aren't that big a deal, are they? Incidentally, my second bike was named Concord. I've only ever had 2 bikes. Maybe I should name my car...
11. You can sing the entire theme song to "Duck Tales ". Hell yeah! I have it on MP3 and my old college roommate and I used to sing it every time it came around on rotation. I have a couple episodes on my computer, in fact.
12. When it was actually worth getting up early on a Saturday to watch Cartoons. *sigh* Yes it was. I miss those days. Trying to be very quiet, but waking my parents up anyway. Sitting through Little House on the Prarie before the cartoons started. Bringing every single one of my pound puppies and purries down and lining them up in front of the tv by... 8:30am I think the show was on... I could be a little off, though
13. You wore a ponytail on the side of your head. I have pictures of this, I'm sorry to say. But they were all jokingly taken
14. You saw the original "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles " on the big screen. Nope. But I saw it on tv a hundred thousand times.
15. You got super-excited when it was Oregon Trail day in computer class at school. Oh HELL YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I made my parents buy a version of it, like, 7 years later when we got a computer. I LOVED Oregon Trail!!!!!! Shooting the bears... family members dying... broken wagon wheels... never finding an outpost when we needed to buy something... DAMN good game!!
16. You made your mom buy one of those clips that would hold your shirt in a knot on the side. I think one came with one of my shirts, but I never wore it
17. You played the game "MASH "(Mansion, Apartment, Shelter, House) Oh my gods, I almost forgot about that game! I always ended up with my crappy choices. LOL
18. You wore Jordache jean jacket and you were proud of it. I had one. I didn't wear it much. But I had one. Not name brand, though. It was on clearance at the Ross outlet store :-)
19. L.A. Gear....need I say more Oh yes. I had a pair
20. You wanted to change your name to "JEM " in Kindergarten. I never really knew JEM. I had a JEM puzzle of her singing and getting flowers from a guy in the audience. But that's all I know about her. I got the puzzle in a secret present gift exchange in first grade brownies, which explains why I have a puzzle and no real idea who JEM really was, apart from being a cartoon rocker chica, that is.
21. You remember reading "Tales of a fourth grade nothing " and all the Ramona books. Yes!!!!!!!!! I ADORED Ramona! I even watched every episode of her TV series years after reading them. I read everything by Bev, even the spin-offs. But I LOVED Ramona. Every time I go to draw, I think of that art class she and her sister went to with the picture of a dragon with lollypops for scales down its back. Ohhh yes yes.
22. You know the profound meaning of "WAX ON,WAX OFF" You know, I've never see Karate Kid. But I've seen that scene on various programs
23. You wanted to be a Goonie. I STILL DO!!!!!!! Hell, with sexy Sean Astin and Corey Feldman who the hell WOULDN'T?! Mmmmm Sean was always my favorite, too. With his little lisp and breathing problems and cuteness. *sigh* Is it any wonder I love Samwise as much as I do?
24. You ever wore fluorescent clothing. Sorry to say, yes
25. You can remember what Michael Jackson looked like before his nose fell off... Soooo much more handsome. He was black, you know.
26. You have ever pondered why Smurfette was the only female smurf. Many times, while playing my Smurfs board game. My boyfriend supports the Smurf Orgy Day theory, where they all have sex with her in one day. Yeah. I just found out about this 3 days ago. I'm not letting him NEAR my Smurf shoelaces.
27. You took Lunch Pails to school. I had lunch boxes, is that the same thing? I had a blue lunch box. Looked so sad and bare that I put a bear sticker on one side. And I had a metal Muppet Babies lunch box.
28. You remember the CRAZE, then the BANNING of slap bracelets. I still have my one and only slap bracelet! It's yellow with black musical notes on it.
29. You still get the urge to! say "NOT" after every sentence. I do still. In fact, I did it a few days ago. Probably the same day I said "Whoa" come to think of it.
30. You remember Hypercolor t-shirts. I never had one, but always wanted one. They were sooooooooooo rad.
31. Barbie and the Rockers was your favorite band. Barbie... and the rockers! I wasn't into Barbies as a kid... but I can still sing the song associated with one of the commercials which explained how the rockers' heads really moved
32. You thought Sheera and He-Man should hook up. Weren't they related? Anyway, I remember loving Sheera and liking He-Man's sidekicks.
33.You thought your childhood friends would never leave because you exchanged friendship bracelets. *sniffles* We're still friends if we have the bracelets, right?
34.You ever owned a pair of Jelly-Shoes. Briefly. For a day. They made my feet break out in a rash.
35.After you saw Pee-Wee's Big Adventure you kept saying "I know you are, but what am I?" I. Watched. Pee-Wee. Every. Weekend. I still watch that movie whenever it's on. The petshop scene is my favorite, where he rescues all the pets from the fire, then goes back for the snakes last. LOL My second fave scene is the basement of the Alamo moment... and when he sings "The stars at night are big and bright..." and everyone else finishes it, so he can prove to the chica over the phone that he was in Texas. Gods I hate Texas, but I was tempted to do that when I visited there, thanks to Pee-Wee *G*
36.You remember "I've fallen and I can't get up" Ah... the memories of poor old people. They still have those commercials around 4am on Game Show Network, FYI
37.You remember going to the skating rink before there were in-line skates. I STILL have a pair of old roller scates in my closet! I've NEVER worn inline skates in my life. But I've been to the rink a number of times.
38.You ever got seriously injured on a Slip and Slide. I think I only did it once... maybe twice. Always wanted to, but I lived ina townhouse and didn't own one.
39.You have ever played with a Skip-It. Skip it!!!!!!!!!!!! I still have mine (yes, you've guessed it, I throw NOTHING I love away!) Mine's blue. I ROCKED. I was so good at it. They still sell them, you know. I occasionally see commercials on TV for them. But I can still sing the original commercial theme song :-) "And the very best thing of all... there's a COUNTER on the ball! So try to beat your very best score. See if you can jump a whole lot more!"
40.You had or attended a birthday party at McDonalds. Not an official one... but I used to have my birthday breakfast there.
41.You've gone through this nodding your head in agreement. YES! LOL
42.You remember Popples. My friend Beth had a white one she slept with until at least High school. We were in Girl Scouts and her mother was one of the troop leaders, so because of this we were all allowed to bring one stuffed animal with us on camping trips. heehee! I don't remember its name, but it's the only one I ever met. I knew him for a good 8 years, I did. *sniffles* Wonder what ever happened to him.
43."Don't worry, be happy " I saw him sing this in concert!
44.You wore like, EIGHT pairs of socks over tights with high top Reeboks. I think my highest number ever was 4. But. Um. Yeah.
45.You wore socks scrunched down. Yeppers. Bad memory of being yelled at by a girl in elementary school because mine were up and I was cold and I didn't know they were supposed to be scrunched down. It was very tramatic for me. She was just trying to help, and I said thanks but didn't push them down because I was freezing, and she started bitching to me. She turned out to be a lesbian and was disowned by her parents. Her father used to be original president Bush's running buddy.
46."Miss MARY MACK MACK MACK, all dressed in BLACK BLACK BLACK" With silver buttons, buttons buttons all down her back back back... Damn... I was singing that last Friday for some reason... with the clapping movements as well. I think I saw it on some show and it reminded me
47.You remember boom boxes vs. cd players. Yeah. I was the last person in the US to get a CD player. And I still have my pseudo-Boom Box :-)
48.You remember watching both "Gremlins" movies. Er... I remember watching the first one... the beginning... once they got wet and were fed and all that, I freaked the hell out and my parents told me to go to bed and I did. I've never seen the rest of either. LOL Excet for the sneezing clips from the second movie on The Tarot of Sneezing
49.You know what it meant to say "CareBear Stare!!" I have two care bears on my couch as we speak! And a movie on VHS... and the original movie on DVD!
50.You remember watching Rainbow Bright and My Little Pony Tales" Never watched Rainbow Bright, though I knew who she was. But I loved My Little Ponies. I still have all of mine. Apart from Legos and Pound Puppies, they were my favorite toys.
51.You thought Doogie Howser was hot. I was So hot for the cute, smart geek boy. Yum yum! And he went on to play Mark in one production of RENT, so I'm all yay about that! Mmmm yummy cute dorky boys *G*
52.You remember Alf, the lil furry brown alien from Melmac. *covers my cat's ears* Of COURSE! Ha! :-)
53.You remember New Kids on the Block when they were cool. I remember... I went to my friend's house to watch the in concert once. Lots of dancing as though they had to urinate, as I recall. We made fun of them. Yet we knew half their songs. LOL

I always thought I was a child of the 80s, but looking at this list, I was maybe two years two old. My slightly younger sister was the right age for Strawberry Shortcake and Pound Puppies and My Little Pony, and was obsessed with Baby-sitters Club. A lot of the music I remember quite fondly. And the clothing...well...not quite as fondly.

And Doogie Howser? That poor man will forever be linked in my mind to the adolescent geekboy. I read several years ago that he was playing a psycho serial killer type in some weekly drama thing and about died laughing because that's Just Not Doogie! 'Course, I also love that the guy who played his best friend/neighbor was in the stage version of The Lion King.

Thanks for the laughs though. And getting some of those songs stuck in my head...*grins*

I forgot how much I loved Gremlins. To tell you the truth, my favorite movies growing up (other than Star Wars, Back to the Future, Indiana Jones, Who Framed Roger Rabbit and Ghostbusters) were The Fly and Little Shop of Horrors and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids for some strange reason. Up until I was 10 Jeff Goldblum and Rick Moranis were my favorite actors. Then when I saw Jurassic Park, well, Goldblum took the top spot. LOL. Good times. I wonder whatever happened to Moranis? Haven't seen him in anything lately...
