Breath of Fresh Air

tarotgalHad a marvelous time tonight over at a professor's house. Her husband made us dinner and my GOODNESS it was refreshing and wonderful and much needed (both the food and the company)
Nice adult conversation, breathing wine, real food, real house, real people. It makes me want to buy a house just so I can throw dinner parties of my own! It was so much fun, and it was soooooo nice to have actual discussions with people about real life from people who are older than me (I was the youngest there by maybe 6 years, and most were in their 40's) It was nice to know that I'm not really as lost as I feel, and nice to know people share my beliefs on so many things.
I mean, I love talking with my boyfriend, but sometimes he's depressed and lately he just doesn't want to talk about things with me. I *love* talking about things like religion and environmental policy and many times even politics... and I don't find that from my boyfriend- although we agree politically(which is a MUST for anyone dating me or I'll go mad) We sat in silence for over 15 minutes during dinner once (I timed it... I think it was something like 17 and a half minutes or something) By then I had depleted all my small talk topics and given up. I had taken to reciting Chapter 18 of PoA in my head. It took a few seconds for the absurdity of this statement to sink in. Then Ron voiced what Harry was thinking "You're both mental!" "Riddiculous," said Hermione faintly. "Peter Pettigrew's dead," said Harry. "He killed him, twelve years ago." He pointed at Black whose face twitched convulsively...
UG... point is, dinner tonight was WONDERFUL. And I much appreciated their inviting me, though I'm a townie and not someone coming in just for the conference, and though I'm in a MUCH different part of my life than they were. *sigh* I like adults. I really, really respect them. I hope to be one... one day :-) heehee
