Date: 2004-05-05 11:07 pm (UTC)Again, I'm sorry to be so negative, especially when you're psyched about this...but maybe you might be able to help me see the good side of things, or some of your excitement might rub off on me...I can hope, can't I? :)

Date: 2004-05-05 11:20 pm (UTC)Yeah... I'm honestly not thrilled at all by the trio's looks. I don't see why they have to "date" the movie with non-robe costumes and make Hermione pink and trendy and sassy, for example.
I've never had a problem with Gary... he probably isn't who I'd have chosen but he's pretty close to how I imagined him in the books. Er, minus the tattoos and American-style prison stripes.
Thewlis is indeed still creepy. I really dig the scars, though. And in profile he's MUCH less freakish to me. I really like the new, darker pics of them(especially the one with sad-looking Sirius and Remus on the right, comforting him) mainly because you can't see much of Remus. LOL
Thewlis is the sort of geeky handsome I like... and after looking at countless photos I have trained myself to see him without the creepy child-molesting-type moustache. Now when I look at the pics I see the actors... but with mental modifications to their appearances that fit with my preferences. I never thought of the modern day pups as handsome... and a lot of the qualities I have in my mind about them are in Gary and David. So I've learned to just see selectively. It's kind of funny, actually. And they're growing on me much more now because of it.
I'm still not at ALL pleased with David's voice. It still freaks me out a bit every time I hear him in the various trailers. I keep thinking of all the cratchedy, rotten characters I've seen him play and that's all I hear. There's just an ickiness in his voice, for lack of a better word. I can't really describe it... it's just not pleasant... and it's not Remus. *sigh*
But the looks are growing on me. I just see selectively now. And I think if the acting is strong enough, I'll be able to keep it up throughout the movie without any problem.
I'm sorry it's killed your love for the fics though *sniffles* That's awfully sad :-( I understand it... but it's still very sad.
I just keep reminding myself that this is just one version of things... and I can enjoy it for some things though my original vision will still be the "real" one to me. I truly believe there are NO people that perfectly match my mental images of the boys and I just let them do their thing in the movie/pictures/trailers while I picture other things in my head... does, ah, that make any sense?

Date: 2004-05-06 01:27 am (UTC)When Snape is teaching DADA in Lupin's place, he storms into the classroom shutting all the blinds with a flick of his wand. He tells the class to open to page... um, 496 or something... then stands in front of the screen and starts the projector. He's teaching about the horrible, dangerous werewolves, you see. That's the picture being projected- Ancient Egyptian representation of a werewolf :-)
So, yep, that's exactly what you're seeing in that picture. It'd make more sense once you see the trailer, I think.

Date: 2004-05-06 01:40 am (UTC)They probably just wanted something visual and impressive as they've done lessons in other movies without many visual aids (like Snape's potions class) and that was the easiest way to do it :-)

Date: 2004-05-06 02:07 am (UTC)But it looks like a funky thing... so I think it's at least supposed to look somewhat magical.
I don't know... how magical is a train, really? The Hogwarts Express is pretty normal and it's a machine. And Dumbledore had a lot of strange instruments in his office in movie 2. So I guess the wizarding world has some basic understanding of (muggle) machinery. Hmmm... I wonder where they draw the line? Obviously there's no electricity in Hogwarts so the machine would have to be powered some other way. Hmm. This makes me wonder...
