LotR question
May. 13th, 2004 05:13 amI've got a LotR question for you all... or, well, two, really.
1- What direction does Bag End face? Is it ever actually stated? I just wrote a typical "sunrise" scene before realizing I've no idea if it actually does face east or if some of the windows do, at least.
2- Anyone have a good link to a floor plan of Bag End? Or able to describe it from DVD design extras, etc? I don't have my DVDs so I can't look it up myself, I'm afraid. But a floor plan would be *most* helpful. I mean, I know it's probably impossible to get everything, based on canon (what with the many pantries and Bilbo's whole rooms devoted to clothes and all) but anything even remotely close would be helpful.
Okay, that's it. Thanks much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
EDIT: Apparently, panties and pantries are NOT the same thing. Oh gods is that embarrassing... LMAO!

Date: 2004-05-13 03:35 am (UTC)Here's one description from
Bag End had a round, green door with a brass knob in the middle. The interior doors were also round, as were the windows. The main hallway was rounded like a tunnel, with rooms on either side - the best being on the left-hand side because they had windows overlooking the garden and beyond. The rooms were all on the same level. They included bedrooms, bathrooms, cellars, pantries, wardrobes, kitchens, dining rooms, and a study. The rooms were comfortably furnished, the walls were panelled, and the floors were tiled and carpeted.
Waiting for a map of the Shire to load now to see which direction Bag End faces *g*
And, I'm sorry if I'm being annoyingly persistent, and I promise I won't bring it up again if you say no, since I know you have *very* good reasons, and you're busy, but... do you think you could come on AIM? Just for a sec, so I can say I've chatted to you? *l* *blush*

Date: 2004-05-13 03:41 am (UTC)As far as I can tell from this map, I'm guessing Bag End faces the south. This is purely a guess, though, based on my memory of the movie, where (I think) Bag End had a view of Hobbiton, which, according to the map, lies south of Bag End... but I'm not too sure on this :o) And I think if you wanted a sunrise scene, you could have a sunrise scene anyway and i) no-one would ever know the difference, assuming my answer's the right one (big assumption there) and ii) they could have stepped outside Bag End and turned to the left or something, and seen the sunrise, or had the sunlight come in through a window... I mean, I'm sure you can write around it :o)

There's a diagram showing the rooms inside Bag End, which I'm reasonably sure is from the 'Atlas of Middle-earth'. Hope that helps!

Date: 2004-05-13 06:02 pm (UTC)I had seen from reviews that if it was going to be anywhere, it would be in that Atlas... I had a note to go check it out... but this is even better! Thank you!!! *bounces happily*
