This update was difficult, as there were 3 other stories I'd finished that are multiple-parters/series stories so I'm waiting to finish the other ones before I post them all. But that just makes for a bigger update later, I suppose :-)
PS- I still don't quite get why PJ actually wanted to include a tribute to this LotR version... LOL Samwise just entered. Gods I love that hobbit but he's so badly done here... ugly and bumbling and clueless... *sigh* I miss my chubby, cuddly, observant, loyal to a fault Samwise.

Date: 2004-05-23 04:21 pm (UTC)I do think that the scene that's playing right now, with them hiding under the tree roots, was a very interesting and well done scene, in both versions, actually. It gets the message of the fear created by the wraiths across very well. In fact, the wraith stuff at the beginning of FOTR was the only time I've been truly scared enough to jump , besides Shelob, that is...*hates spiders*

Date: 2004-05-23 04:43 pm (UTC)I agree about the wraiths... though I didn't jump, my heart was definitely going a mile a minute when I saw those parts in FotR. I like this version... and definitely get scared and understand their fear as well. And I like the difference of reactions between Frodo and the others. But the wraith's, er, scream/cry breaks it for me and makes me laugh a little inwardly, I'm afraid. Just isn't the sound I expect when I'm used to fierce hissing.
I jumped at Shelob the first time just because I knew the stab was coming... and I was worried as they'd split Sam and Frodo up. I mean, I knew they wouldn't kill Frodo off then... but you never can be too cautious when it comes to new versions of a book. I was nervous they were going to do something stupid and it was so... graphicly painful and the sound as she wrapped him up... *shudders* All that and I actually love spiders! :-)

Date: 2004-05-23 04:59 pm (UTC)I was trying to describe Legolas earlier on the phone with boyfriend. "He's... scary to look at. His face is..." Boyfriend asked if he was ugly. "No, not ugly. It's just..." Too pretty? Too soft? No, that's not it. I couldn't describe it. It's just... freaky. Those eyes... yeah, that's it... yikes
But I do agree about the happy greeting, and the embrace. And I like it better this way, too. If we can't get Glorfindel this is the next best thing!
That's how I was with Treebeard in TTT. If I couldn't get Tom *sniffles*(though he would have been very difficult to depict in a way that everyone would have agreed upon, so it's probably best leaving him in mystery), having Treebeard say a few of his lines was the next best thing, and I could live with that :-)

Date: 2004-05-23 05:08 pm (UTC)Gandalf is even grumpier than usual here too, and he keeps gesticulating wildly like he just can't keep still.
*giggles* Just noticed Legolas and Gimli are sitting next to each other at the Council table, and they don't appear to be unhappy or arguing either. I do like Legolas' voice in this version, however, even though his bow is some funky curly thing that hardly looks strong enough to be functional...his outfit's not bad either.
'Elves do not walk in the darkness.' Aww...poor elf doesn't fare well away from the sun and stars. *huggles Legolas*

Date: 2004-05-23 08:43 pm (UTC)The wild gestures really started getting to me tonight. There's a character, a bad guy, on Charmed who does that as well. Makes me very uncomfortable to watch. Makes me think he has some sort of disorder that makes him need to keep his hands moving or something. I just want to go over and pet him and calm him down and make him stand still while he talks. So I got the same vibe from Gandalf tonight.
Not to mention they keep calling Sauruman 'Auruman'(sp?) for some reason.
Oohh they are sitting next to each other. And Gimli looks dead handsome compared to freakish Boromir in that scene, too. LOL
I like Legolas' voice as well... but that could just be because I love Anthony Daniels, having grown up on Star Wars and all :-) His bow always made me laugh, though- I had the same issues about functionality- where exactly do you grab it and how do you get a good grip when you're in a hurry and how are you supposed to actually use it to direct arrows in an accurate direction?
