Fic updates of the day! :-) Which is far more fun than listening to me bitch about Bush. LOL
- Came up with a lovely idea for a Legolas & Gimli story. No sneezing, but some h/c and lots of angst. Don't have time to write it yet, but I wrote a page an a half worth of an outline so I wouldn't forget the details that popped into my head- you guessed it!- in the shower tonight
- I finished the R/S drabble that came to me a few nights ago. It ended up being 3 pages long. LOL It needs editing, I think. And I rejected a good title in favor of a crappy one because the good one fit other bunny ideas much better. LOL We'll see.
- I wrote more of the Obi fic. I'm having second thoughts about posting a part later today. I'm rather worried that once I start posting I won't be able to finish the story... you know my record with WIPs. I really wanted to post it on the first of the month... maybe I should wait until next month. Ugh. Then I'd never get this done. Ugh. I'll probably post it tonight.

Date: 2004-10-01 06:13 pm (UTC)I find it pretty easy to describe Squee to someone in person (just make the sound. LOL!) but I've had to explain it to people when I was just chatting or not in a place where I was able to actually squeal. It's rather hard, isn't it? LOL But, yes, been there, done that! LOL
Hope you enjoy my new fic. It's been fun writing it so far. I hope I haven't gotten in over my head.
And I'm online tonight chatting (pretty much every Friday, I'll be online) so feel free to look me up if you see me

Date: 2004-10-02 10:49 pm (UTC)Your idea seems quite possible and very good, actually. A council meeting (not a Jedi council, but some meeting of delegates of other worlds, or a local planet's goverment or something like that) is a good excuse. I know I've used that myself at times to lure the boys to specific planets :-)
But I like the idea of them not getting far with it. Poor Obi *hugs* And strange medicine and ways of healing on a planet would be very interesting to see! As would an incubation pod-type thing that blocks their master-padawan bond. There are a number of fics out in the world that deal with a Jedi's reaction to suddenly being cut off from the force (or from his master). I've read stories where fevers or comas have done that much, and it might be interesting for Qui-Gon to finally get them to release Obi from the incubation area (or allow him to enter as long as he agrees not to leave) just to find that it's the illness, not the facility, that was making it hard to communicate with him using the force. Just a thought... :-)
But in general, yes, your idea sounds great and you should definitely run with it! :-)

Date: 2004-10-03 06:22 pm (UTC)The meeting idea sounds great. Possibly an environmental disruption (flood, avalanche, volcano, drought, famine, etc.) that causes the need for supplies to be sent from Coruscant or nearer friendly planets.
As for the connecting, Jedi communicate with the force on many levels. I would think that Qui-Gon would try to contact Obi-Wan on many levels as well. Simply talking, touching (I love the image of him holding his padawan's hand), and thinking (telepathy). The master-padawan bond is expressed many times in fics as the private exchange of thoughts and emotions from one to the other. (denoted as //thought-speech// in many fics) It's also possible that through the use of the force they may be able to simply sense each other's presence on a level we can't really understand as mere humans ;-) So the fact that Qui-Gon suddenly can't sense his padawan's consciousness might be a huge blow to him.

Date: 2004-10-04 01:59 pm (UTC)As for the made-up planet bit. You're right that the council part would not be that important. But you'd also have to take into consideration how advanced the civilization on the planet was. They have to be technologically advanced enough to have a way to communicate with the Jedi through subspace, yet not posessed of the proper natural resources to make a recovery on their own. And they must be medically advanced enough to have isolation wards and official procedures. But obviously not advanced enough to be able to cure (or detect) any/all illnesses. Perhaps recent paranoia on the planet or nearby ones makes them more cautious about foreign illnesses. For them to order/force a Jedi into an isolation pod/room takes a lot of guts... or a lot of naiveté. One of the two. To get the right combination of the civilization and culture needed to make a story like your believable, you would really almost have to invent it from scratch.
