Ah, October. Technically my second favorite month (second only to December) though sometimes it gets bumped up to first favorite.
I drove neighbor to another hospital today (coincidentally it's on the campus of that university I mentioning in my bitchy ramblings this morning) and on the way home I stopped by 7-11 for a Slurpie. It was busy as all heck there, and there were several people before me in line at the machine. Including two kids. As I was waiting there for them to finish, this guy in a nice suit comes in and says hello to one of the kids. The kid says hi back, and then the guy leaves. The kid turns to his friend, who asks who that was, and the kid tells her the guy's name. Turns out it was a guy from high school I haven't seen in many many many years. Whoa. This is really my first "haven't seen them in forever" sorts of run-ins. This guy was my second chair clarinet in middle school and the first year of high school. And now he's all grown up and wearing a suit and my GODS but that was spooky weird! I mean, I've seen people in passing every few years or what-not. But this was my first sighting after a REALLY long/significant gap in time. And it's someone I didn't completely hate from high school (which is strange since I liked very few people in high school) LOL It was nice. I wonder if he works next door to the 7-11...? Hrm. Wish the kid had said where he knew him from. Anyway, neat moment. Wanted to document it. heehee :-)
I went ahead and started posting the Obi fic. There's no turning back now! I'm really worried I'll loose momentum or something. But I know a lot of people who have posted a fic-a-day things so I'm going to try my hand at it. *crosses fingers*

Date: 2004-10-02 07:55 am (UTC)Good on you to be so kind to your neighbors, and I hope that he (assuming it's the same neighbor!) is getting better, that this hospital move is an upgrade of some sort.
Running into schoolmates -- well. since I've moved across the country from my hugh school, I can't say I've had that pleasure, but my 20 year reunion (ulp!) is coming up in a few years. I really should go, if only to see i my ninth-grade sweetheart shows up. I mostly hung out with people a year older or younger than I was, so that puts a wrench into the reunion stuff, but I'll try to go anyway. I was one of the quiet people in my shool, but for some reason, folks still recognize me. Weird.
Wil have to go read your latest Obi fic. I'm sure it's nifty!

Date: 2004-10-02 11:03 pm (UTC)I'm sure the art projects probably had a lot to do with my love for the month *G* The weather has a lot as well. And Halloween's my favoritest holiday :-) But poor April always gets picked on ;-)

Thank you for asking. Turns out he had a broken hip. The doctors did a small spinal operation (that obviously didn't help) and were about to discharge him when they finally figured it out (the fact that he kept saying it hurt the most when he moved his hip I suppose wasn't enough to point them in the right direction for a week! GAH!) But they moved him to nursing community for older patients at another hospital and yesterday they moved him back home (along with one of those spiffy hospital beds so he can lower it can get in and out easily). So yay! That's good. Stupid HMO tried to kick him out after 48 hours and it took them a week to figure out what was wrong. And they lost his x-rays. So I'm glad he's finally back home :-)

Aww! Good luck with that! 20th! Wow. I have another online friend whose 20th is coming up shortly, too. She's definitely not going to hers, though.
ABout the quiet-but-people-knowing-you thing, I can definitely relate. I was votest "Shyest" in eighth grade. Which is embarrassing for someone who's shy. LOL I actually hung out with a few people my own age and then a LOT who were in grades above me. So I'm less interested in my own class reunions, as well. Though I am curious about a guy I had a crush on... I'd possibly consider going to my reunion just to see him... I've had a crush on him since 6th grade and I'm pretty damn sure he wouldn't remember me, how sad am I? LOL But I think moving away and becomming a big success are on my list before the reunion :-) Lucky you not having to run into people! heehee
