Ah, October. Technically my second favorite month (second only to December) though sometimes it gets bumped up to first favorite.

I drove neighbor to another hospital today (coincidentally it's on the campus of that university I mentioning in my bitchy ramblings this morning) and on the way home I stopped by 7-11 for a Slurpie. It was busy as all heck there, and there were several people before me in line at the machine. Including two kids. As I was waiting there for them to finish, this guy in a nice suit comes in and says hello to one of the kids. The kid says hi back, and then the guy leaves. The kid turns to his friend, who asks who that was, and the kid tells her the guy's name. Turns out it was a guy from high school I haven't seen in many many many years. Whoa. This is really my first "haven't seen them in forever" sorts of run-ins. This guy was my second chair clarinet in middle school and the first year of high school. And now he's all grown up and wearing a suit and my GODS but that was spooky weird! I mean, I've seen people in passing every few years or what-not. But this was my first sighting after a REALLY long/significant gap in time. And it's someone I didn't completely hate from high school (which is strange since I liked very few people in high school) LOL It was nice. I wonder if he works next door to the 7-11...? Hrm. Wish the kid had said where he knew him from. Anyway, neat moment. Wanted to document it. heehee :-)

I went ahead and started posting the Obi fic. There's no turning back now! I'm really worried I'll loose momentum or something. But I know a lot of people who have posted a fic-a-day things so I'm going to try my hand at it. *crosses fingers*

October, a lovely month ineed! T.S. Eliot famously called April "the cruelest month," and I've always thought of October as among the most comforting months. I am always put in mind of those fabulous art projects we probably all did in kindergarten or first grade, pasting pre-cut construction paper leaves to bigger pieces of paper. And then there was always the thrill of Halloween: deciding what you were going to be, plotting the route for the maximum candy yield in your neighborhood.

Good on you to be so kind to your neighbors, and I hope that he (assuming it's the same neighbor!) is getting better, that this hospital move is an upgrade of some sort.

Running into schoolmates -- well. since I've moved across the country from my hugh school, I can't say I've had that pleasure, but my 20 year reunion (ulp!) is coming up in a few years. I really should go, if only to see i my ninth-grade sweetheart shows up. I mostly hung out with people a year older or younger than I was, so that puts a wrench into the reunion stuff, but I'll try to go anyway. I was one of the quiet people in my shool, but for some reason, folks still recognize me. Weird.

Wil have to go read your latest Obi fic. I'm sure it's nifty!
