I remember years ago when I lived in the dorms, we had a problem in our room of somesort and when we asked people what we should do, they all suggested putting paint thinner on it. Goodness knows I don't remember what went wrong, but that was the solution, and my roommate and I looked at each other. Paint thinner? What would two girls without cars stuck in an undergrad dorm possibly have paint thinner on hand for?

OK, so this bloody ant problem... tis still haunting me. I looked up solutions that won't kill my cat in my household tips book (thank you Mom) and it says I should put sprigs of dried mint across their trails. OK, maybe I'm not very world-wise but where the heck would I find sprigs of dried mint in the middle of a college town, for goodness sakes?!

Bah.

Ants

O.K., Ants. Well, your best bet is to go to the grocery store or hardware store and by ant drops. Not sprays, for they will harm your cat. It's in a small container, about the size of a dristan nasal sray container (go figure). All you need is to place a few drops in areas where the cat can't get, such as in cupboards, under shelves, that sort of thing. They are a yellow droplet, and you don't need much. If you can put the drops where you normally see the ants, it would be even better. The difference is that sprays and stuff only kill the worker ants which are quickly replaced by more, and no doubt mutant ants. The poison in the drops (boric acid) is taken back to the nest and kills the queen. In about a week - NO ANTS. Good Luck
