FIC: Gift for Lady Korana
Jan. 12th, 2005 03:33 pmTitle: Gift for Lady Korana
Author: tarotgal
Fandom: Lord of the Rings, RotK movie-verse for the most part
Pairing: Legolas/Gimli, minor current Aragorn/Arwen and Faramir/Éowyn, past Legolas/Aragorn implied
Rating: PG13
Disclaimer: These characters and their world are as not mine as they could possibly get.
Summary: While suffering from a head cold, Legolas attempts to survive a celebratory dinner.
Notes: Written for Lady Korana for the winter holidays, 2004
Follow the fake LJ cut to my (Gift for LadyKorana) Belated happy holidays, and have a very good new year!
Of the two ideas you suggested, I decided not to select one because I wouldn't be able to write it in my intended 1 to 3 pages. This one ended up taking me 14 pages... I don't exactly know why, either. Elf is sick, goes to dinner, tries not to sneeze, goes back to his room. Doesn't seem like it would be so long, does it? LOL
I hope I didn't overdo the food references/humor. It is dinner so I wanted to work with what I had and call attention to the circumstances. A few places still need a little bit of cleaning, I think, as well. Sorry about that (and any other stupid errors I didn't catch- I caught a lot, but I can't imagine all). But I hope I managed to do the characters justice. I'm still very nervous about writing hobbits! Not to mention the fact that large group stories intimidate me. But I really hope you like the story. Feel better!!

Date: 2005-01-12 09:26 pm (UTC)*sighs with incredible relief* I was worried parts might feel repetitive... and that the large number of characters would distract too much from the "plot". I am quite relieved that you liked the group. I know it was a little different- not set in Legolas' realm and all- so I'm glad you weren't disappointed. I'm definitely going to need more time to prepare in order to proper write Legolas as an Elf Lord, so when I thought of a post-war pre-corrination banquet, I thought that was the perfect solution.
I solemnly swear to write a more detailed set of comments once I can sit at the computer longer than 20 minutes without getting a headache, and when I'm no longer in danger of hacking up my lungs.
Go rest, definitely. I'm so behind in replying to things that, believe me, you should take your time! But I'm thrilled you liked it so much. I'm sorry it was so late, and thank you for waiting so patiently for it!!!
While I was reading your gift though, it was magic ...everything disappeared except the images your words were weaving in my mind. For that alone, you have my eternal thanks! *hugs*
*hugs back!* I definitely know that feeling. Maybe you should read it again, then... *G*

Date: 2005-01-12 09:49 pm (UTC)I know what you mean about large groups of people being intimidating to write. It's what's kept me from attempting to write many of the ideas that pop into my head, which is why I was so delighted to have the opportunity to foist this one upon someone else .(j/k) Seriously though, I thought you did a wonderful job, especially with the hobbits. And no, I didn't find the descriptions of food distracting, though like Legolas, I find the thought of soup and water the most appealing at this moment. *G*
Anyway, thanks again...now I think it's time for a nap on the couch. This fic, and 'Brassed Off', which I just finished watching, have put me into a blissful, dreamy mood...
