Movie Quote thingy

Gacked this from Meg (
smokeycat_430) who picked two that I would have put on my list if I hadn't read hers first.
1. Pick one dozen movies that are ones that you have special feelings about.
2. Pick a few lines of dialogue that mean something to you.
3. As people guess the film, strike out that entry.
4. If possible, after the film is guessed, explain why that movie made the list.
Quotes:
Boy, that was fun. Damn hard to pick, but I tried to pick ones that were most special to me for many reasons :-) And I excluded LotR, HP, and CoN because they'd be too easy and I didn't want to include one and exclude the others. And my apologies to Dead Poet Society for not including it. Don't know why I didn't, but I can't think of what to knock out for it now. LOL So... yeah... that's all.
Have fun! I think they're pretty easy but what do I know? I have strange tastes :-)
Edit: ah, looks like Hermione did this, too! Nearly all are guessed though *pouts* ;-)
Another edit: I'm not going to strike through, because I can't read them and smile, then. So I'm going to bold the unguessed and unbold the guessed. Yeah. That makes sense...
And another edit: I'm going to give this one more day- anyone else have guesses?

Quotes:
- "I've found that sometimes the things you believe in are more real to you than all the things you can explain away or understand"
- "We either live happily ever after or get killed by horrible curses." The 10th Kingdom- Meg Okay, so it's a miniseries not a movie, but I figured it was close enough. This "movie" is very magical to me- filled with fantastically written characters, brilliantly creative elements, humor, emotion, and so much more. It also introduced me to Simon (and then David Thewlis through Dinatopia) and Scott
- "My only shot at ever being in a gang fight and all I get is one stitch? Chris is gonna think I'm a total failure!" Adventures in Babysitting- Meg I adore this movie. I've seen it at least a hundred times, honestly. I can quote nearly the whole thing by now. I don't know why I love it so much... something in the humor and the plot and the ensemble, but I love it to death.
- "I see you shiver with antici...... pation" The Rocky Horror Picture Show- Aimee I figure that if I've seen a movie at least 80 times, it should go on this list, huh? Plus I've been absolutely dying to go to a performance lately. Was supposed to go tonight, coincidentally, but plans fell through. Ah well. I can wait another few weeks. Took me a few tries to pick a line from it. Decided not to go for some of my favorite dirty ones *G*
- "So academic clubs aren't the same as other kinds of clubs." "Ah, but to dorks like him, they are. What do you guys do in your club?" "Well, in physics we... we talk about physics, properties of physics." "So it's sorta social. Demented and sad, but social. Right?" The Breakfast Club- Aimee Another one of those movies I could watch over and over again forever and still adore. It meant a lot to me when I was young, even more to me when I was in high school, and now I'm still inspired and moved by it.
- "We set out to change the world... ended up just changing ourselves." "What's wrong with that?" "Nothing, if you don't look at the world." Velvet Goldmine- symphonyflute Had to have an Ewan movie on here :-) I adore VG, clearly, as I named my cat after a character. Beneath the sex and the glitter and the music, there are powerful emotions and themes that inspire me to no ends. This quote used to be my e-mail signature, too. I love this movie so very much.
- "You know a little about Buddhist monks. Some of them come to cherish life so much that to step on an insect or harm a blade of grass becomes a violation of their creed, so they place themsleves under an extreme form of protective custody, a sanctuary of sorts. Well, for an Immortal who comes to abhor the bloodshed, there's a similar solution - a way to be removed from the game forever." Highlander: Endgame- Meg took a very good guess Of course I had to have this movie on my list! It is the only movie I saw multiple times on opening day and it's characters from my favorite fandom on the big screen! Yum. The fandom itself changed my life and taking all my friends to see this movie was a fantastically fun time as well.
- "But right now, they got to do what's right for them. Because it's their time. Their time! Up there! Down here, it's our time. It's our time down here." The Goonies- Meg Little Sean *squishies* And Joey Pants. And the whole lot of them. Fantastic feel-good movie that I grew up with. I've always been a huge fan.
- "And what if there is no hell, or they don't want us there? Ever think of that?" "But there was a hell. And no matter where we moved to, I was in it." Interview with the Vampire- Meg Ah. Where would my fantasy life be without a few sexy, tragic vampires? I never made it through reading the series, but I adore this movie and have seen it too many times to count.
- "When single shines the triple sun what was sundered and undone shall be whole. The two made one by gelfling hand or else by none" The Dark Crystal- Vatergrrl I simply adore this movie. The puppets, the plot, the art (I'm in love with Brian Froud in general)... it was the movie that really defined a hero's journey for me in the fantasy world (sorry SW, but this got to me first) and really opened my mind to the fact that there doesn't have to be limits to creativity or boundaries between art and movies.
- "Before he came down here, it never snowed. And afterwards, it did. I don't think it would be snowing now if he weren't still up there. Sometimes you can still catch me dancing in it." Edward Scissorhands- BrigidMN I picked this because it's the first "adult" movie I ever saw in the movie theater. And because this movie really turned me on to Tim and Johnny as well. It's very dark and magical and I love its look and its messages.
- "Never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line! Ha-ha ha ha. Ha-ha ha ha. Ha-ha ha ha-- THUNK" The Princess Bride- Meg The only movie I can recite from beginning to end while not even watching it. And many annoyed friends and family members can back me up on that. My absolute favorite movie in the world, hands down. I had a hard time picking a line from it, though. So many from which to choose! :-)

Date: 2005-01-16 09:48 am (UTC)Very well done! Right on all accounts. I definitely picked a lot of my all-time feel-good favorites here, so I'm happy they brought back memories for you too :-)
And feel free to jump in with guesses on the others later if no one else knows them. Thanks- you're so sweet to let others have a shot :-)

Date: 2005-01-17 08:42 am (UTC)It is indeed the 10th Kingdom.
And the other... I'm very surprised no one else thought to guess Highlander, considering it's my favorite fandom in the whole wide world. It's an excellent guess on your part *hugs* There are actually 4 Highlander movies out at the moment (a fifth is due out soon, and a sixth is being discussed as well) This is actually from the fourth one and pretty much describes the whole plot/point of the movie. *snuggles my immortals* But, yes, fantastic guess. I'm excited you took a stab based on my interests. I had hoped someone might try to :-)
