Allrighty... so I meant to do this every week but I've been slacking. But the movies I've seen recently:

Garden State- I liked this. It was simple, but well written and well directed. Very strange but interesting. Didn't hurt that I could relate to that lost feeling the main character had throughout. It was an enjoyable movie to watch- I cried a little and laughed a little. Yeah, very enjoyable.

Wimbledon- Paul! Squeee! I'm not really into Tennis so I didn't expect to like it as much as I did. But I actually really liked it a lot! It did a great job of being a romantic comedy but not taking that part of itself seriously. And Paul was just plan delicious as a character you desperately want to root for no matter what. I'd definitely watch this again. The commentary was adorable as well (he was terribly sick during one scene- awwww, poor Paul!)

Little Black Book- Strange style acting-wise and rather predictable. But it was still a light, enjoyable kind of movie. To be honest, I only rented this because of the hockey tie-in, so I wasn't expecting much. I was entertained, though my favorite moments were easily the hockey moments. And the ending was really great. Best part of the whole thing- apart from the hockey. And cute Ron :-) And the HOCKEY! *snuggles the Devils*

Unbreakable- I rented this ages ago and I still smile when I think about it. It was the only M. Night movie I hadn't seen and I absolutely adored it! I loved the concept, loved the direction, loved the colors and the dialogue and every single element as it unfolded. He's a brilliant storyteller- BRILLIANT ideas and brilliant execution. And the thing I like most about his twists are that they are SO obvious but things I wouldn't have necessaraly thought of. So even though I feel stupid for not figuring some of them out, I also feel that there was no way I could have. It's a great feeling. I really liked this movie. Real life comic heroes... it's a great concept and it worked so well in the movie. I really liked this movie. Definitely up there on my favorites list now!

The L Word- I finished the whole season in about 5 days. I really loved it. Fantastic characters and lives I was immediately drawn to. Definitely liked this. Soooo many parts I would love to list out but I wouldn't want to ruin it. Definitely a series I might get on DVD, and with the way it ended (the only part I don't like is how it ended for my favorite characters in the season finale) I cannot WAIT for season 2 to hit DVD eventually!

The Butterfly Effect- Wow. I had a feeling I would like this, being a fan of time travel and time distortion plots but I absolutely loved this movie! The whole idea of the blackouts being presented to us as missing time slots because they were parts of time that would be changed/interfiered with and, thus, couldn't be known as something... ugh, I'm not explaining properly. But my point is, I love the concept of the blackouts as changed time blocks. And I really liked the ways he changed time. The ending was bittersweet and I was really hoping the director's cut would make it a little happier. Uh-uh. Ick. I HATED the director's cut (okay, so the prison rape scene was rather interesting, as were a few of the other added bits with his mother) and its ending was just pathetic. The guy behind the counter at Blockbuster totally agreed with me on that. LOL

The Chronicles of Riddick- On a whole, I liked it. I definitely liked it more than Pitch Black, and I liked Pitch Black. The director guy's intro made me laugh hysterically. I watched it twice, just laughing at how serious he took it- oohhhh an extra 15 minutes of footage? Has he heard of the LotR EE? LOL Anyway, I like the characters (even though I was sad when they killed my favorite character off in this one! Whahhh!) and I liked this particular adventure quite a lot. The ending, especially, kicked ass. I'd definitely watch this again. Oohhh Riddick's so yummy *G*

The Stepford Wives- I haven't seen the original, but this one was pretty good, especially with the fantastic cast of actors. I found it very amusing and enjoyable. Though my favorite moment was the gay guy's Orlando and Viggo references. *giggles* After my mother and I watched the movie together, she asked if we could go back and watch that part again. *gasp* Viggo! *giggles*

Calendar Girls- I saw this just this last weekend and was so glad I caught it on TV (it was on my To Rent list anyway). Awwwwww! This was so sweet. I've suddenly realized that I relate best to gay men and woman over 40. LOL Anyway, this was fantastic. Touched my heart from the very beginning but it was also fun and adorable and sweet. I'm very glad they made this into a movie. I was definitely very touched.

Mona Lisa Smile- Awww! Makes me want to be an art teacher at Wellsley! My guidence councellor in high school wanted me to go there- they even gave me a scholarship. But it's not really my sort of evironment. Still, I absolutely loved the culture and the plot and the relationships and the movie in general. I'm not even a huge Julia fan, and I loved this movie. It was inspiring and wonderful.

The Recruit- I caught this on TV, actually, but I'd been wanting to see it for a few months. Sadly, I predicted the ending about halfway through, but it was still an engaging movie. I've heard interviews from people who say this is the most realistic look at that world that's ever been portrayed, so, wow. It was also kind of neat to see some of the places in the movie, as it's where I live & grew up. heehee But, yeah, great acting, great characters, very engaging. I liked it a lot!

The Notebook- For the first hour or so, it was nice. Typical het romance, which kind of bored me even though I really liked the concept behind it and the characters. Still, yeah, I wasn't impressed at first. Something happened an hour and 20 minutes into the movie that made me completely fall in love with it, though. By the end, I was crying, obviously. A very sweet movie, in all. Nothing incredible, but very sweet indeed. Honestly, I still would have picked James Marsden, but that's just because I've had a crush on him for, like, forever. heehee! Anyway, yes, sweet movie.

Collateral- I didn't really want to see this. I didn't think I'd like evil!TomCruise and I'm not a Jaimie Fox fan. But my mother rented it so I watched it. Wow. I liked it a heck of a lot more than I thought I would! I didn't love it or anything, but it was a good movie. I totally saw the end (in its many aspects) coming a mile away. And I learned some important things like it's okay to flirt with cabbies and never stash a dead body in the trunk and then get into a car accident. But, yeah, I liked it. I still don't like evil!TomCruise, though. Booo! He's not as cute and yummy when evil and murdering peoples.

The Manchurian Candidate- I watched this just today. My mother said it would be icky and freak me out. I wasn't all that freaked out. I think it would have been more interesting had the concepts of mind control and conspiracies been fresh to me. In this day and age, they're pretty tired ideas and so I wasn't really impressed here. There are a HUNDRED easier ways to accomplish what they wanted without using mind control, IMHO. And the middle of the movie seemed to just drag on and on with things they didn't need to keep repeating. I didn't feel like they were building much, even when I knew they were. I just didn't feel very emotionally involved as I was confused as to why they would go through all this when there were so many easier ways of doing it. The guy at Blockbuster said I would enjoy the original movie more. I'll have to rent that and see whether I like it more.

Peter Pan- (the "new" live action version) I loved how close to the book it was in so many ways. That was really, really great to see! It had a very beautiful style and I actually really liked the kids. Tink annoyed me a bit, but that's a stylistic thing. Her attitude was fine, though. And Jason was still deliciously sexy. Yum! Very adorable, and quite beautiful. I feel sad that it took me so long to see this movie! Definitely loved it :-)

The Tesseract- I rented this today. I thought "Hrm, interesting summary, non-linear format, and cute-sexy Johnathan... I'll give it a chance" Huh. Not really my kind of movie. I didn't hate it... but I wasn't thrilled. For a Sundance movie, it wasn't as good as I'd hoped. It wasn't horrible... and Johnathan was great... but I'd hoped for something more interesting and substantial than "Ooops, where did my drugs go? Bad guy is going to be angry at me!" I don't really understand the chica's field of study, apart from it being a means to further the plot. It seemd forced to me. The little kid was great. And the non-subtitled portions were also great- it felt like being thrown right into the middle of their world and like I had to work to become part of it. That was a nice feeling. I'd just hoped for more, considering I usually love non-linear things and ideas that come from the concept of tesseracts and hypercubes and such. I shouldn't have been especting so much. But, yeah, it was interesting. It was sort of a 'suddenly spot it and try it out' sort of thing.

Young Adam- Finally found a copy of this in the store today, too. It's usually out every time I go. So yay! EWAN!!!!!!! SQUEEE! Fantastic characters. Lots of sex. *EG* The custard was a bit much even for me, I must admit. But all the sex was great and really made me understand the core of Joe as well as many other things. I look forward to watching the commentaries tonight and tomorrow. But, yeah, I liked this story. Really shows the heart of human nature and makes me think a lot about what I would do were I he. I can't say what exactly I would do... I wouldn't be able to live with myself, that's for sure... but I don't know if I could turn myself in, either. Anyway, loved the presentation, loved the characters, loved how it made me think about things and see things I'd never been presented with before. And, of course, my favorites: wet!Ewan, naked!Ewan, smiling!Ewan, and typewriter-writing!Ewan *VEG*

Over the weekend I re-watched 'Shakespeare in Love' (yay!!), 'But I'm a Cheerleader' (very yay!!!), 'In & Out' (*giggle*), and 'Galaxy Quest' (which I bought on DVD at Walmart... and watched with the Thermian Language audio track all the way through, cracking up periodically- LMAO!!!)

Wow you really are catching up. I haven't rented any new releases lately. The last rented movie I saw came from the library and it was The Day the Earth Stood Still, not exactly new. LOL. I really should go to the video store though as I have about $60 worth of gift cards that have been laying around (one for over a year). Don't know what's stopping me. I just don't have time/energy, I guess.

I'm so silly- I saw someplace that "Stepford Wives" was horror and I have been terrified to watch it. I like psych. horror (ie.- Talented Mr. Ripley) but Hate horror as a genre. Now from what I've been hearing- I think that I got a mistaken impression.

Oh- and Manchurian Canidate. The orginal- Definately better. Less contrived (in my opinion.
