Random silly tg but... did anyone else think Orli's voice sounded a little deeper than usual tonight at the Academy Awards (and on the red carpet beforehand)?
And Pierce! Awwww Poor guy all sick and coughing through his presentation!! So snuggle-worthy... *happy sigh*
Okay, that's it. I'm silly, I know *blush*
Might get a butt-load of snow tonight/tomorrow. Even more than last week. They're saying maybe 7 inches. Which means possibly no work tomorrow. Which would be grand for my sleep but bad for my bills.
And one more thing... since when did Orlando become "that guy who starred with Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Caribbean"? Poor Orli...
Oh! And two sneezes tonight at the awards, as well. In the beginning montage of movie moments. That was cuteness :-)

Date: 2005-02-28 07:07 am (UTC)Being the movie geek that I am, I watched the entire 4-hour broadcast, plus two hours of pre-show coverage. Orli was adorable in the pre-show interviews, despite that odd not-quite-tie thing he had going on. He spoke of his respect for Johnny Depp, and the caption on the tv listed him as 'Starred as Legolas in the Lord of the Rings films', so at least he got called a star there, not just someone's co-star. It was sad to see how they kinda rushed him away abruptly so they could talk to Kirsten Dunst though (and boy has that girl looked better than she did tonight...ick to the cropped blond hair!). Especially since they're co-stars in his next film, Elizabethtown. And yes, I did notice his voice was a little rougher than usual, though I was too busy squeeing over his sexiness in general and didn't make the instant connection to possible illness that I might have otherwise made. I felt bad when he stumbled over some of his words when he was presenting, poor lad, but more famous people have stumbled worse, so it's no major problem.
I had to giggle a little bit when the Spiderman 2 people took the Best Visual Effects award: "I'm thankful there is no fourth episode to Lord of the Rings". Basically, I spent most of this telecast being nostalgic for the joy that was last year's Oscars. I had very little emotional investment in most of the major categories this year.
That being said, Major Congrats to Cate Blanchett and Morgan Freeman, two immensely talented, delightfully gracious, elegant people who have been denied Oscars in the past and finally got their due this year. Way to go guys! I'd also like to send my congrats to the writers for 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind', and everyone involved with 'The Incredibles'!
Major regrets: KATE WINSLET (Who loooked absolutely stunning in aqua blue, and who tied with Cate Blanchett for Best Dressed in my book)! The woman has been nominated 4 times now, and never won. Hilary Swank has gone 2 for 2, and while I'm not denying she deserved it for 'Boys Don't Cry', I question whether she would have won this year had 'Eternal Sunshine' been released closer to December. I also regret that Johnny Depp is going home emptyhanded again this year, but I'm not surprised. If the Academy wouldn't give it to him for Jack Sparrow, he didn't stand a chance against the memory of Ray Charles this year. Jamie Foxx was the landslide frontrunner this whole awards season, and there wasn't a chance in hell he was going to be beaten tonight. I'm not to terribly upset though...all the actors nominated were equally deserving this year, IMHO (with the exception of Clint Eastwood, who seems to just play one crochety old guy after another lately, all of whom greatly resemble himself...but that's just my personal opinion.)
Chris Rock was ok as host. I missed the rather charming way that Billy Crystal opened the show last year, but I couldn't help but find myself smiling as Rock waged open war on Bush tonight...you go, Chris! I adored the whole Gap waging war on the Banana Republic metaphor. *G*

Date: 2005-03-01 05:11 pm (UTC)If Pierce Brosnan I will cry. That would be just cute and make me want to snuggle him especially as I know that he's not really fond of limelight anyway. Awwww!!!
I only saw very end. I might be cynical but I think "Million Dollar Baby" just got awards due to p.c.ness of topic. Female boxer- new type of movie. So..... I guess I'd rather that Kate Winsett won, but....

Date: 2005-03-01 11:36 pm (UTC)Yes, he walked up to the podium and right off the bat he apologized to everyone about how he sounded (I don't remember his exact wording, I'm so sorry! Something like 'Please forgive how I sound tonight'). His voice was incredibly scratchy and deep (tg's note: Guhhhhhh! *drool*) but he still said his bit, playing off the animated fashion chica from The Incredibles (I don't know her name as I haven't seen the movie). But his timing was slightly off and I have a feeling he was the only one who knew the timing well enough to do it, so he went on even though he was CLEARLY sick. Then they cut away to show the nominees and the chica said those names, thankfully- he really sounded terrible (tg's note: Make that WONDERFUL). But his microphone was still on and he coughed no fewer than four times during that portion of the presentation. Since he didn't have any lines I'm sure he thought they'd turned off his mic, the poor baby. He really sounded sick. Looked just fine, but you could tell he was just there because the 'show must go on' and he's that kind of guy. And I must admit it was cute to watch tough guy Pierce interacting with a cartoon character. heehee
As for Million Dollar Baby... I hadn't seen it, but I still agree with you. But, then, I don't really like boxing at all (I would use the word 'hate' except that there was a Highlander episode where Duncan boxed and he looked so incredibly yummy in a bareknuckle fight) and I'm not really currently into tough chica movies. And I'm not really a fan of Clint's either. So I have no urge to see the movie. Still, I agree about that. The fact that they announced it as the first movie about a female boxer to win... um... that's cuz there are, what, only a handful of movies about female boxers out there? I definitely would have preferred it if Kate had won.
