Oohhhh dear
Mar. 8th, 2005 07:07 pmI've completely been hijacked by original characters. Today I was working a little more on the sequel to the sequel to 'Escape' (and the sequel to the sequel to the sequel to 'Escape' which actually would work better as a prequel to 'Escape' if not for a time problem).
ANYWAY, the point is, I made a list of characters & character descriptions so I could stay consistent with hair & eye colors (and with their nicknames and real names) and before I knew it, I had 8 pages of characters, background stories, story possibilities, etc. It's not just a small series, it's an epic! LOL!
So... yeah... I've been hijacked. It's a good thing, though, I think. The characters are a lot of fun to develop and write and I'm really enjoying this. It's been a LONG time since I've written so much with original characters. Now if I could just write something I could publish... heehee :-)
I need a city name, though. I don't want it to be any place real... but I want it nearby DC... but not in Virginia because Virginia sucks. I'd love to set it near Boston instead, but I'd have to rewrite everything to work with the accent thing. So... hrmph... I may be stuck with Southern Maryland. Which isn't a bad thing exactly... I don't know. I'll keep thinking about it. Either way it needs to be a fake city name and I suck at that kind of thing. If anyone has any suggestions, that would be great. I think I used up my creativity on names and nicknames tonight. LOL

Date: 2005-03-09 03:30 am (UTC)I remember did this for the creative writing intro class I took in college (it's funny. I got a minor in CW then realized I needed another credit for an area and there was a basic creative writing intro class in that area so I took it. Like going backwards). We had to write backstories for characters we played in a skit. My background documents were 30 pages long, detailing everything from the way his parents met to the floorplan of the first house he ever bought once he started his own family.

Date: 2005-03-09 12:23 pm (UTC)you could take Crisfield but it's real and it's already used by Cynthia Voigt in her lovely Tillermans series. anyway, city names ending with -field are always nice imho. they sound spacy.
anyway here's some suggestions:
Wigsdale. Crumfeld. Stokes. Marshbanks.

Date: 2005-03-09 03:10 pm (UTC)Oh absolutely! You should see the volumes of notes I have regarding the characters, settings, timelines I use for my novels! But I haven't done this sort of thing (in this much detail) in years. Feels very good indeed :-)
But you're absolutely right about the rest as well. Which is why my poor novel characters are just sitting there giving me death stares and then run away as soon as I try to attempt picking them up again to play. And, sadly, sex isn't an option for most of them. Which is, perhaps, why they get so pissed at me. LOL But I go as the muses dictate. If they don't want to cooperate I've more than enough stuff at the moment which will! :-)
On a not-quite-original-characters topic....
Date: 2005-03-10 03:44 am (UTC)I realize that this post was about original characters, and I have to say I really enjoyed your recent dog walking story, but I had a sort informal request...a suggestion, if you will. Mind you, it's not an original character idea, but I think it would be interesting none-the-less.
Anyway, I noticed that you've been keeping up with the "Angel" series, and I had actually only seen the more recent ones until a little while ago, when they started playing reruns and I started watching from the beginning. Well, I immediately fell in love with Doyle. I'm not sure if you found him one of the more interesting characters, but I loved the way he and Cordy danced around the possibility of a relationship with each other until...well...you know. I would love it if you'd try a 'fic with him as the focus, maybe a cold 'fic with Cordy to care for him. Anyways, it's just a suggestion for if you have the time and if it interests you.
I really admire your writing, and if I had half the skill you do then I'd have written it myself already. Sadly, I don't have the talent.
Well, I hope you'll consider this, and happy writing!

Date: 2005-03-10 04:01 am (UTC)Suggest and get OT all you like! My muses are always happy with more inspiration than I can handle! :-) And glad you liked the dog walking fic- thank you for reading it.

There are still about 3 episodes I missed... but I've seen some episodes 10 times. So, yeah, I feel comfy enough with the fandom by now.

I absolutely ADORE Doyle!!! Oh, with the sexy accent and the nobleness and the sexy accent and the shady past and the sexy accent... VERY nummy Doyle is! Even though he wasn't in the series much, he's one of my favorites. But, then again, there are few characters I dislike (and they're all baddies)
ANYWAY... I've had a Doyle bunny racing through my head for a year now. It's really the only Buffy or Angel series bunny stuck in my head. But I was worried it was too cheesy to write. It sort of uses two pieces of canon- Doyle's sneeze in episode 1 (where he "sprouts Demon face") and the episode where his exwife's in town and he doesn't want Cordy to know he's a demon and she fights him unknowingly when he's in demon form. So, yeah, pretty cheesy, but the bunny was where Doyle gets sick and he so TOTALLY wants to use it to get Cordy to take care of him, but he doesn't want her to find out he's a demon and has to avoid sneezing in front of her.
I haven't been too energized to write it- since no one ever says anything about Doyle, I figured I'd be writing it just for myself anyway and since I figured it'd be silly. But I suppose there's a pretty silly tone to the fandom at times, so it might work. But... yes... I definitely wouldn't be against writing a sneezy!Doyle fic. I love that boy. *snuggles* Plus his sneeze is canon, so that makes it even more fun :-)

Awww! I'm sure you're not terrible. If you've imagine enough to know what you'd like to see, you're halfway there :-) But I thank you for the writing compliment. *hugs*
Doyle 'fic
Date: 2005-03-12 03:16 am (UTC)Thank you so much for considering writing your Doyle 'fic! I think it sounds cute...no matter how cheesy, they are still good :)
Anyways, I look forward to reading it when you get around to it!
