Much more successful
Mar. 22nd, 2005 06:12 pmHad a much more successful run across town to Best Buy today. Came home with The Clone Wars (on sale for $13 instead of $15) *snuggles sexy Knight Obi-Wan* and also The Last Unicorn and Muppets Take Manhattan.
It was a tough choice between The Last Unicorn and Muppet's Treasure Island... even now I'm not entirely sure I made the right decision, but I've been debating it for days now. I adore Muppet Treasure Island (I just can't get enough evil!Tim) but I see it on TV occasionally and I have the soundtrack, and I never see a thing for The Last Unicorn and it's a movie I dearly loved as a child. Damn... I have an entire DVD rack of "I loved this as a child" DVDs: Care Bears, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Charlotte's Web, Ernest Goes to Camp (don't ask- LOL!), The Dark Crystal, The Storyteller, Willy Wonka, The Goonies, The Neverending Story pts 1 & 2, Adventures in Babysitting... and a handful of Disney movies, of course. But what would really make me happy is the Pound Puppy movies and series out on DVD!
But until then, I'll just be happy with my sexy Knight Obi. Even if I think it's silly that they don't all have commentary. But, hey, if I really cared that much I'd be a Hyperspace member and I'm not.

Date: 2005-03-23 12:03 am (UTC)Hard choice indeed; I love both Muppet Treasure Island and The Last Unicorn...though for completely different reasons.
The Last Unicorn was one of the first videos I owned as a child [on beta no less!]; I remember how my Mom wouldn't let me see it at first because it had the word 'damn' in it.
I love the Muppets in everything they do...but Treasure Island came out at the hight of my Tim Curry obsession [gods I love that man-he's just so fascinating in everything he does] and I adore all the songs...
Hard choice though...

Date: 2005-03-23 03:18 am (UTC)Oohhh on beta! That's impressive! I never had a copy, but was always watching when it was on TV and borrowed a friend's copy on video a few times during high school to re-live the happy :-)
And Treasure Island- I agree with you completely! I adore Tim- in everything. There are a couple episodes of Earth 2 I taped long ago that I refuse to tape over just because I can't stand taping over evil!TimCurry. As though he's going to jump out and yell at me... or worse. And the songs... Love Led Us Here ALWAYS makes me cry. But, honestly, there's a whole boatload of songs in Muppet movies that make me cry. I sob during several moments in both of the Christmas movies EVERY single time without fail. And don't get me started on the Rainbow Connection... one of my favorite LotR fanvid is a Samwise one to that song and it always gets to me. But the others songs are great, too. I put Professional Pirate and Cabin Fever on the 'Pirate Mix' CD I burned *G* And I'm sure I laugh more at the Muppets than I cry, in the long run :-)

Date: 2005-03-26 05:15 pm (UTC)As for The Neverending Story novel... I read it many years ago right after I first saw the movies. And you're right in that. But, then, VERY few movies are ever as good as their original books, so it's not much of a surprise. And it's still neat to see an attempt or two at the dazzling images and characters that the book brought to life. Plus Johnathan in the second movie was a childhood crush of mine *G* So I do agree the book's better, but the movies have a special place in my heart anyway.

Date: 2005-03-26 05:10 pm (UTC)As for Clone Wars... sorry they're not your thing. I personally LOVE the idea of having more material to work with- finding out exactly what happens in-between movies 2 & 3. I totally agree with the directors/creators that it should be shown right before movie 3 to fill in the gaps (apparently the end of volume 2 is RIGHT before EPisode III). I'm *SO* looking forward to watching some of volume 2 of it for the first time tonight on CN. There's supposed to be a lot more in the master & padawan relationship shown than just Obi and Ani at each other's throats. And of course there's more about the new characters. Yippie! :-)
As for the voices... I'm 99.99% certain that's not Ewan. I think it's just someone trying to sound like him, but you can go onto the SW databank and look for the voice actors or check out IMDB to be sure.
But, yeah, I really like this short series. I like having something else that's official to fill in the gaps. Same way some of the Animatrix did for the Matrix movies. Plus there's lots of uber-angsty Ani and General Obi-Wan is so adorable in so many ways (especially when he's all wet.. awwww!) :-) But don't watch them out of order. THey won't make sense because they're too short. You should watch them from the beginning, definitely.
