Apr. 2nd, 2005 01:43 am- "Breathe into my hands or cup them like a glass to drink from"
SONG/ARTIST: Glass Vase Cello Case by Tattle Tale
NOTES: This is on the soundtrack to But I'm a Cheerleader and plays at a great moment in the movie *G* It's an absolutely lovely song besides, though. - "If she had to she would put herself in my chair even though I faced electrocution. She always says I'm the best friend that she's ever had. How do you hang up on someone who needs you that bad?"
SONG/ARTIST: Laura by Billy Joel
NOTES: Not one of his popular songs, but I was a Billy fanatic and have practically all of his songs on tape and mp3. And I really like this one a lot! - "I can find a lover. I can find a friend. I can have security until the bitter end. Anyone can comfort me with promises again."
SONG/ARTIST: Honesty by Billy Joel
NOTES: See the comment for song #2 :-) This one's a little better known so I thought it stood a chance to be guessed. But I guess not. I love singing along to this song... it's soooo angsty and true at the same time. - "Now there's the Captain, he's our commander, (well that stands to reason, doesn't it?), there's the bosun and all of the crew, too, there's the first and second class passengers, only know what we poor convicts go through. Singing too-ra-li oo-ra-li ad-dy"
SONG/ARTIST: Botany Bay by Rolf Harris
NOTES: I grew up listening to Rolf Harris records... and so I was thrilled to find a few of my favorite songs of his on mp3 after so many years. And I totally love this one
GUESSED CORRECTLY BY: laughing_newt (song) and
girlwithtulips (artist) - "Anyone can see the road that they walk on is paved in gold. And it's always summer, they'll never get cold."
SONG/ARTIST: The Way by Fastball
NOTES: I'd forgotten I even had this on mp3... I always liked the beat and uniqueness of the sound. And there's something more to it that I was drawn to...
GUESSED CORRECTLY BY: laughing_newt - "Marconi plays the mamba, listen to the radio, don't you remember"
SONG/ARTIST: We Built This City on Rock and Roll by Starship
NOTES: This one's in my beloved "80's songs" folder. I've always really liked it for some reason.
GUESSED CORRECTLY BY:
f_butterfly - "If I should buy jelly beans, have to eat them all in just one sitting. Everything it seems I like's a little bit sweeter, a little bit fatter, a little bit harmful for me"
SONG/ARTIST: Cigarettes and Chocolate Milk by Rufus Wainwright
NOTES: My Rufus baby! :-) This is probably my absolutely favorite song of his, as well. - "Let's decorate a surf board with geometric shapes and lines. We can use a few polygons. We can make it look so fine"
SONG/ARTIST: Tessilation from Square One TV
NOTES: I didn't think anyone would get this one... but I thought perhaps *shrug* I can sing a bunch of the songs from the show that I wasn't able to find on mp3, so I thought maaaaybe someone might recognize it. I'm not surprised that no one did, though. - "You're so excited, I can feel you getting hotter, oh baby. I'll take you down, I'll take you down where no one's ever gone before. And if you want more, if you want more, more, more..."
SONG/ARTIST: Jump for my Love
NOTES: Heehee! Fun song. I DON'T dance but even I dance a little to this song if I'm alone *G*
GUESSED CORRECTLY BY:
f_butterfly - "I just like the things you do. Don't you change the things you do. Only time can tell if we get on well."
SONG/ARTIST: Slade from Velvet Goldmine
NOTES: Love this movie *snuggles* - "Are those sweet, gentle pleasures gone for good? Shall a feud not begin for me? Shall kith not kill their kin for me?"
SONG/ARTIST: Simple Joys of Maidenhood from the musical Camelot
NOTES: I adore this musical- it was one of the first ones I ever saw as a kid. And I sooooo love that last line I quoted there... yum- sounds so pretty
GUESSED CORRECTLY BY:
f_butterfly - "Gonna let it rock, let it roll. Let the bible belt come and save my soul. Hold on to 16 as long as you can. Changes come around real soon, make us women and men."
SONG/ARTIST: Jack & Diane by John Cougar Mellencamp
NOTES: The clapping song *G* There are a few songs I instantly fell in love with because they told stories, and this was one of them.
GUESSED CORRECTLY BY:
f_butterfly - "I'd rock you till the daylight comes, make sure you are smiling and warm. I am everything. Tonight I'll be your mother. I'll do such things to ease your pain, free your mind and you won't feel ashamed"
SONG/ARTIST: Damn, I wish I was your Lover by Sophie B. Hawkins
NOTES: Even after a minor blunder in how I heard the lyrics, I still really loved this song. Is it any wonder why, with lyrics like these?
GUESSED CORRECTLY BY:
rainbowbluebird - "I'd like to turn off time and kill my mind. You kill my mind. Paranoia paranoia everybody's coming to get me"
SONG/ARTIST: Flagpole Sitta by Harvey Danger
NOTES: I'm surprised no one got this one! I guess it was one of those one hit wonder things that don't stick when one pulls out just a few lines. But I've always loved the darkness and funkiness of this song. - "We were in the Badlands one day chasing B'elanna and Chakotay. We were whisked into the Delta Quadrant. Fuck, that's far away!"
SONG/ARTIST: Screw the Okampa! (I Want to Go Home) by Voltaire
NOTES: Voltaire has a bunch of filk songs for Star Trek on 'Oh My Goth!', all of which I adore much much! My favorite without a doubt is The USS Make Shit Up but my now ex-boyfriend got a kick out of the Sexy Data Tango. Anyway... yeah, I thought maaaaybe someone had heard this as I know Voltaire's somewhat popular in some circles, but I didn't get my hopes up. If anyone wants a copy of a song or two on mp3, let me know. - "Because I have fallen in love with you, no never have, I'm never gonna stop falling in love, with you. Close the door, lay down upon the floor and by candlelight, make love to me through the night" [Note- LIE down! *grrr*]
SONG/ARTIST: Runaway by The Corrs
NOTES: I love this song muchly. Then again, there's a lot of songs by The Corrs that I adore.
GUESSED CORRECTLY BY: RC - "I was hungry now I'm not. Because I ate some beans and grapes... The stars are twinkling in the sky. There's no hot water in my hotel."
SONG/ARTIST: The Rhyming Song by The Muppets
NOTES: I thought perhaps VATERGrrl (or someone else) might be able to guess this considering recent discussions. But it's really random, I know. I always laugh at this song. Scooter's line after the third verse ALWAYS cracks me up. And Fozzie, too, of course. - "Holy Lady, show me my soul, tell me of that place where I must surely go. Old man waiting at the gates for me, give me the wisdom, give me the key."
SONG/ARTIST: House of Stone and Light by Martin Page
NOTES: This used to be one of my top 3 favorite songs EVER! I'm so sad no one knew it! But, then, I've always had weird taste. It was popular in its day, I suppose, or maybe in religious circles? I don't know. I try to think of it in my own terms religiously, though. But I love songs with good, thoughtful lyrics and this one does not disappoint! - "Ireland, Scotland, Britain, and Wales. I can hear those ancient voices calling 'Children, children, children'"
SONG/ARTIST: Celtic Ray by Van Morrison & The Chieftains
NOTES: Both artists are incredibly well known but I've never met anyone who's actually heard of the album they did together LOL (Of course I don't exactly ask EVERYONE I meet, but you know what I mean). Some of the songs on the album are some of my favorite Celtic folk songs ever and with such fantastic musicians behind them, it's a joy to listen to. And this song is a great example. - "Pictures torn out of their frames and orgies where we lost our names. All were gone with time's real desire. Well, you ask how God can curse you thus. That's not a question asked by us. We burned our beds and books. We fear we've lost the fire."
SONG/ARTIST: A God Descended by Dar Williams
NOTES: Dar is my faaaaavorite female artist and this one one of my faaaavorite Dar Williams songs.
Thanks for playing, all! :-)
