Fics...

I spent most of my day doing everything I was supposed to do yesterday ;-) And I started a new webpage... yes, I'm an idiot and a half. LOL

Fic progress today...

• I wrote a page or more in the Legolas/Gimli sneezefic. I've already written part of the ending (depending on how I want it to end) but I don't quite know about the middle yet... so it's starting to slow down a little.
  
• Same thing with The OC fic. I've got a good beginning but the more I write, the less I like where it's going. But I like how I think I want to end it. I sent it to symphonyflute for a second opinion :-)
  
• I wrote about 3 pages in my X-Men bodyswap fic. It's getting VERY difficult to keep them straight. LOL! Now I've sort of got the terms and names straightened out, which was something I was worried about before (bodyswap scenarious are so much better SEEN rather than READ). But now I'm facing accent problems. I spent at least an hour on several "how to speak Cajun" websites trying to get Gambit to cooperate in my head. I'm still not quite sure I like it. I watched the Nightcrawler X-Men episode as well since it's got all the main players in my fic at the moment. But I still don't think I quite have their voices down. Gah! Accents! Give me a Scot and I can knock the accent out of the ballpark without trying. But Cajun and Southern and German... oh my!

Aww, thanks for the offer!
Unless (based on the few other Nightcrawler fics of mine) you think I suck at Kurt's accent, I don't think I need help there. And Rogue's isn't too difficult either (she's not in this very much, either). But Remy is giving me a LOT of problems, especially as his accent isn't *that* strong at times on the show which makes it hard to obey all "rules" on the various websites I'm looking at. So I'm mixing and matching and reading it over a zillion times. I think I'm going overboard with it.

Eh. See? 'Dis' and 'Dat' and the like are my least favorite... and some sites don't even mention them... but others list it as rule one and...
You don't by any chance have any good Gambit fic recs I could use to get his dialogue straight in my head?

It's just difficult juggling three accents... thank goodness Wolvie isn't bad enough to warrant stuffy-talk at this point of the story on top of that! LOL! NO ONE would be able to figure out what anyone was saying if I did that!

Hi Tarotgal. Hope it's okay I post in here. I followed your webpage to your LJ and noticed this little reference. I used to be a huge X-men fan, esp. of Remy. :)

I just wanted to say that you really shouldn't worry too much about Gambit's accent. The TV series greatly exaggerated it, and canon Remy would never be as silly as to refer to himself in the third person (a major gripe to the true fan). ;)

To see some examples of the way Gambit talks, perhaps check out the list of Gambit quotes from the comics themselves, on gambitguild.com. (go to www.gambitguild.com, choose "words and pics" and then "quotes."

A GREAT fic rec (the best in X-men fandom, IMO), is the Betrayal Arc by Valerie Jones (Betrayal, then Paradox Law, then Fall of Empires which is sadly unfinished). This fic is worth reading for sheer brilliance and plot, not just because it highlights the wonderfulness that is Gambit. Another great fic is also by her and Lori MacDonald, called Thick as Thieves. Do a google search and they're bound to come up.
