Ah, Batman!
Jun. 24th, 2005 07:13 pmAh, Batman. My first superhero love :-) Sure, I followed Spiderman in the newspapers and I probably saw the first Superman movie before the Batman one. But I've always loved Bruce first and best and still do. There's something so dark and brooding and mysterious about him. Plus I love the fact that he's just a normal human- no super powers at all. Everything he is is HIM. Real intelligence and skill and a pure desire to help because he wants to, not because he's been gifted with something. Not that I don't love those types, of course. I just love Bruce. *snuggles*
And Christian as Bruce? FUCKING EXCELLENT! Definitely a nice end of a shite week for me. The new trailer for 'The Island' had me squeeing bigtime. But the movie itself was really excellent. Liam and Gary were fantastic, and Christian's Batman reminded me SO much of Michael's so that really made it for me. And Alfred. Gods, but I love Alfred! And the love interest portion was in perfect doses for me. And young!Gordon was adorable!
But my favorite? My absolute favorite (and anyone who's seen the movie... or not, for that matter... should find this comes as no surprise) was "shivery, angsty, just-fallen-through-the-ice, huddled-round-a-campfire" Bruce. Guuuuhhhhhhhh! *THUNK* So with the yummy, I can't even begin to tell you how many bunnies struck me at that point. I started writing a sneezefic then and there and had to literally stop my mind a few sentences in and return it to the movie before I completely ignored what was going on. But sqqqqquuuueeeeeeeeeee! Snow and shivering and cold and wet and lots of angst and BRUCE! So nummy.
I'm so glad it was a good movie. Looked beautiful, too. I want a batcave! *pouts* Then again, I ADORE character backstories so I don't have the typical complaints people have had about the movie in reviews. Hey, we've all seen normal batman movies- and there've been plenty of bad ones. I think they did a fantastic job with the approach, the elements, the bad guys, the development, the character-building and, oh, did I mention the ANGST?! Good movie *G*
My stomach started to hurt about an hour into it, but it's better now, thank goodness. I got meds so I'm going to start taking them tonight. I hope they help. I don't get airsick but I can't imagine it'll be fun flying when I already feel like I"m going to v. *shudder*
But today's gone well so far (as of 7pm):
Wake up at 7am
Walk the dog
Feed the dog and cats
Walk the dog again
Take in the trash cans and recycling bin
Nap until 11:30
Feed the dog
Walk the dog another time
Go to see Batman Begins (NOTE: and I didn't get lost! YAY!)
Recycle stacks of magazines that have been in my car for months
Pick up meds
Feed the dog and cats
Walk the dog yet again
Go grocery shopping
Water plants in front and in back of house
Walk dog yet another time
Tape Part 3 of Into the West at 8pm
Tape Party Monster at 8pm on other TV
Walk dog one last time and put him to bed
Feed the cats moist food
Nighttime routine (do dishes, sweep floors, clean counters, refil water bowls, empty catboxes)
Watch the Aviator
And sometime in there I need to make room for writing ;-) And eating. Bleh. I got ingredients for making smoothies. Figured that'll be a nice treat. And hope that my lack of being able to make ANYTHING in the kitchen can be overcome long enough to make something halfway decent in the blender. Hmmm. Assuming I can figure out where my parents keep their blender... Gods, but I'm useless in the kitchen!

Date: 2005-06-25 03:20 am (UTC)Glad to hear Batman was good! I haven't seen any new movies since my one viewing of Episode 3, but I am planning on seeing it in a couple weeks when I go to visit a friend in Albuquerque. I shall eagerly look forward to the scene you mentioned above! Yay for plot bunny-inspiring movies!
Have you been watching 'Into the West', or are you just taping it for your family? I've been really enjoying it, despite the graphic v-ing incident last week that made me leave the room for a minute. Cholera=not pretty. I am totally in love with the Lakota culture, and I find their warriors way sexy! *G* I'm so deeply ashamed at how the white men treated them. Sean Astin was on tonight's episode, which I was totally not expecting. Seeing him with that big pack made me miss LOTR terribly...even the long-time fic writers are pulling out of the fandom, one by one, until only a few remain. *sigh*
And wow, you walk the dogs that many times a day? Maybe if I had a dog, it would get me to exercise more, though I haven't had much luck with walking today. I went outside tonight to get the mail and I tripped (not over anything, just my own clumsiness) and fell on the sidewalk, mildly spraining my right ankle and ripping open the skin on my palms, and left knee and elbow. That'll teach my to try and leave my apartment and get fresh air! It's safer here by the computer. *G*

Date: 2005-06-25 04:19 am (UTC)Bruce spends a nice long portion of the movie up in the cold, snowy mountains, training with Liam. With lovely katanas. (I do SO love a good sword training sequence!) Very inspiring *G* But on a whole, I really enjoyed it as well. My second favorite Batman movie, without a doubt. I hope you enjoy it when you get to see it! :-)
When I went vegetarian, 99% of all my stomach problems POOF! went away. And while I have the occasional digestive problem, this has just been up there on my list of worst possible ailments as well. But apart from a few hours, today's been the best day I've had in weeks. So here's hoping!! :-)
And speaking of which, thank you for the heads-up on Into the West. I'll have to watch out for that part. I haven't watched any of it yet- seriously haven't had the time to devote to it. But I'm taping it (mostly because of Sean) and will probably make a weekend out of watching it, when it's all taped. I'm slightly worried about getting it taped while I'm gone... still haven't worked that out yet. So, yeah, I'm taping it for me. And I'm looking forward to it, even though reviews haven't been as hot as I'd expected. I haven't watched Hercules with Sean in it yet, either. Just ran across where I taped that earlier today. I really need to catch up :-)
And as for the dog (luckily, just 1) yeah, he needs to go out every 2-3 hours or so. He can go 5, but that's pushing it. And I don't want to be mean and make him wait to pee. Poor thing. We don't have a yard where he can just go out any time, so we just have a built-in routine for taking him out and walking him around until he goes. But the dog's very slow and picky and it takes for-eh-ver. I MUCH prefer cats in this respect. Yes, I'm getting excercise but GAH! So hot and humid out and it gets tiring.
And I COMPLETELY emphathize! I trip often but, more often, I run into things that normal people would avoid. I'm always scraping myself on edges of tables or banging into doors or fences. And my ability to scrape my knees like a 5-year-old is one of the reasons I wear jeans instead of shorts. *HUGS* I'm so sorry! Put a lot of ointment on it and I hope it's not too bruised in addition!!!

Date: 2005-06-25 04:25 am (UTC)So far The Aviator's all right. I'm not thrilled by it, but it's good. I'm enjoying it. I think right now it's suffering from the "lack of plot and simply stringing events together because it's the story of the life of a person" problem. I'm not *feeling* the rise and fall as much as I think I should... just feels like a steady string of events. But the characters are very well developed, so that saves it for me. All I need in a movie are good characters :-) I can see why you'd like it a lot, though, as a movie fan. What a nice surprise from your mother! :-) Awwwwww.

Date: 2005-06-25 04:43 am (UTC)Ooh, I am such a sucker for good training montages, cheesy though some of them may be...and katanas are way sexy! This movie is sounding better all the time! Cold, snowy mountains= very yummy daydreams!...I'm still figuring out a way to work that Aragon/Legolas picture from Lassegalen's Laire with Legolas sitting on that tree branch into a fic challenge. *G*
'Into the West' is interesting, but I'd be the first to admit it's not all that brilliantly written. Most of the characterizations aren't terribly deep, largely because huge spans of time are covered in a few minutes. I think it would have been a more moving miniseries if they'd been less ambitious about covering the entire history of the western expansion in a few short chapters. And Sean Astin didn't even show up until part 3, and even then, his part was quite small. I wasn't disappoined, since I wasn't even expecting him to be there in the first place, but you might be, if he was your main reason for taping it. I'll watch practically anything with Native American history though!

Date: 2005-06-25 02:18 pm (UTC)LoL! "Rub your chest; your arms will take care of themselves." Not surprised in the least.
I loved CB's batman voice. Sultry and sexy. Mmm.
The plot really worked for me. It explained a lot. And was a nice throw back to the batman animated series of my childhood, with Scarecrow and such. I had forgotten about him.
And The Island? Squee! Honestly, I don't know if the plot of it will be something I truly enjoy, but I will definitely be seeing it in theaters because of Ewan. I wish he had his accent though...:-)

Date: 2005-06-25 04:48 pm (UTC)One the MA list when it was announced Liam was in the movie someone posted and said he was the big bad guy. Then, within a day, it had been clarified that he just worked for the bad guy before he was really a bad guy. Someone else posted that he wasn't in the movie much, except for the beginning. So I was rather surprised by the ending and laughed to myself at the fact that both of the early reports had been right all along ;-)
But, yes, I loved the facial hair... and Christian's voice was perfect!
LoL! "Rub your chest; your arms will take care of themselves." Not surprised in the least. Guuhhhhh, yes. Mmmmmmmm yes.
The plot really worked for me. It explained a lot. And was a nice throw back to the batman animated series of my childhood, with Scarecrow and such. I had forgotten about him.
Ditto! I knew Scarecrow was in it, but forgot by the time I went to see the movie. LOL But, yes, it reminded me a LOT of the animated series, only translated into live action far better than I could have imagined. And there were so many little elements and details that really made it beautiful and added to the plot. You're right- it did explain a lot. I always accepted the "his parents got killed, so now he hunts down badguys" explanation, but this was SO much more in addition. I really liked.
****END SPOILERS****
As for The Island... I LOVE those kinds of concepts (sort of futuristic-types of psycho-dramas), so plot-wise I think I'd want to see it anyway. I'm just worried I'll be bored by too many explosions/chase scenes. I like action, but too much bores me (i.e. car chase in second Matrix movie practically put me to sleep).
And multiple Ewans? I'm planning to see this at LEAST once in theaters! Actually, according to a Leno interview he did last year, his clone speaks in an American accent by the guy he's cloned from has his normal sexy accent (or the other way around). So we get BOTH Ewans :-) I agree, though, I like him best with his normal accent.

And Gary Oldman (Sirius) plays sweet police officer Gordon
It's a kick-ass cast. And Christian Bale is fantastic. (Even if my favorite movie role of his is still in Velvet Goldmine with my Ewan-baby)

Liam. I knew nothing about this movie other than what I got from the tv spots and trailers. He looked like he would be Bruce's mentor and, well, he's good with a sword, so I was happy. :) But then, at the scene in the mansion, right near the end, when you find out he IS Raj, not just his first mate...He was the bad guy, but he had so many potentially good qualities in him. He was determined and knew what he wanted. Despite the difficulty, despite opinions to the otherwise, he continued to work towards what he believed to be what was right and good for the world. Of course, his version of good involved a metropolis full of psychopaths clawing each other's eyes out, but...
I didn't see it coming at all. I should have seen it coming, as it really isn't too wild of a plot twist, but I only got it, like, a second before the camera panned to Liam. LoL, but I really don't want to get it much earlier than the movie tells you; it feels like I've lost some part of the journey, knowing the end before I should.
***END***
Sigh. Good movie.
