Harry Potter and the HBP
Jul. 17th, 2005 03:46 amI got to the bookstore last night just in time to watch the costume contest. I avoided an acquaintence from high school, whose brother won a prize, in fact. Then I spent the next two hours waiting for my ticket number to be called. Which gave me a lovely chance to read Buffy Watcher's Guides and the first five Gravi Mangas, as well as a lovely book with anime essays which included topics from Pokemon to Anime Porn.
You know it's a strange night when you're standing in a bookstore at 2am reading about tentacle sex while surrounded by a hundred or more people.
Anyway, it took me about 15 hours (yes, I read VERY slowly, especially when I have to stop every page or so to comment to the characters about something or other!) but I just finished the book. Yes, even the power going out for 2 hours this evening did not stop me! Bwahaha!
**NO SPOILERS HERE, JUST A VAGUE REVIEW** I must say I liked it, in the same way I liked OOP. More canon. REAL, official story. Little details that have THRILLED me to no end (see Ron's line at the bottom of page of 452 to know what I mean). And one thing that my sick shippy mind has managed to come to terms with, because I figured it would happen inevitably. I can rationalize anything if I work hard enough ;-) So, yeah, I liked it. I figured out who the HBP was less than halfway through, and I'm REALLY hoping my guess for the character mentioned at the end is correct. And on a whole, it was an enjoyable, detail-packed, fitting continuation of Harry's story. Even if I did spend the last few chapters crying and squeezing my Moony stuffed animal VERY hard.

Date: 2005-07-17 08:55 am (UTC)Are there just 12? That's all my bookstore had last night, though I only made it through 5. *snuggles K* Very nummy indeed. It was so nice to have an excuse to stand there and read them. And several characters are much less annoying than in the anime series.
