I just sneezed. Maybe's it's a sign. LOL

First off... what a day! James (Scotty) dying and Canada making gay marriage all official and my boss' daughter's Bday and me... um... getting a new CD player and a battery for my car remote (I didn't mention the CD player on my LJ. My CD player died the day before I left for CA. I kept trying to make it play and it just wouldn't and I was driving in the car and SOBBING because it was broken. My grandparents bought me that CD player as a high school graduation gift and it was fitting for it to die just before I left to go out to CA to attend the service and sort through the house and all *sniffles*) Anyway...

What a THRILL to wake up to this morning before work. [livejournal.com profile] the_pirate_girl gave me something I've been wanting forever: an illustration specifically based on one of my stories. It's of Draco (and Snape) from my 'Familiarity' fic (which is weird because I was just thinking about that fic last night). Even though the fic was written long before HBP, the picture DOES CONTAIN A SPOILER for the book so, yeah, only look after you've read the book. (And, hey, read my fic, too, if you want!) The drawing is on her deviantART gallery here: http://www.deviantart.com/view/20772814/ and it's just fantastic. I'm so envious and flattered and touched and honored and warm&fuzzy with lots of happy *sigh* So everyone must go check it out and see what a lovely job she did!! *snuggles sick!Draco to pieces*

On an only slightly related note... I've been thinking about this for a while... and I hope this doesn't come off me being all full of myself or anything (though I suppose now would be a good time for it because- look at my pretty fic illustration gift! *snuggles it again*). Would anyone be at all interested in me writing commentary for one or more of my fics? I've discussed this idea with a few people in the past in relation to DVD commentaries and all, but I've never really tried my hand at it before because, yeah, the whole full-of-myself and pretending-someone-actually-cares-what-I-have-to-say-about-my-own-fics things.
But I think I'd find it fun to go revisit some of my stories in that sort of capacity. Would anyone actually like to read something like that? And if so, anyone have a fic they'd like me to provide commentary for? You know, a fic where, when you read it, you kept saying "TG, what the HECK were you thinking here?". Or maybe some WIP I don't have finished yet (uh, obviously not finished, because that's the IP part of WIP, innit?) that you'd like me to go through.
Anyone interested? Or anyone really sickened by the idea and will avoid me forever now for suggesting such rubbish? LOL!

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. I would *love* to know more about your writing processes! And no worries...it doesn't strike me as arrogant at all for you to want to talk about what you love to do. Plus, I just totally dig commentaries and behind-the-scenes stuff in general!

Speaking of behind the scenes stuff, Amazon.com's 10th anniversary presentation some previously unseen stuff from LOTR that had me squeeing in delight! Lemme go find the link...I'll be right back after I reboot my computer. It's on the fritz and I'm afraid I'll lose what I've typed so far if I try and open another window.

Here's where you can find the link to download the LOTR stuff:

Yay for Viggo/Orli teasing, elf-bandannas and ponytails, and huddling in big warm overcoats! Enjoy!

If your boss's birthday was yesterday then that means he has the same as Josh Holloway...

Anyway, I think it would be interesting to know what you wrote while writing different things and what you think of them now. Hey, what could it hurt? It might even help some (me) in their writing process as all I can think of while writing is how much it sucks and such...So yeah, I'd read it if you typed something like that up.

I think it's always helpful and informative to see the behind-the-scenes stuff, those very "what were you THINKING?" notes and musings which occasionally end up in author's notes attached to specific fics. But many times, the A/N section isn't big enough, or it might seem distracting, and I am certain we've all had second, third, and twenty-sixth thoughts about what we wrote weeks later. Any insight into the *process* of writing is golden, though I will be the first to say that what works for one writer won't always work for the next. Nora Roberts, for example, who is a wildly prolific romance and mystery/sf novelist (she writes the "In Death" series as JD Robb) seems to find diet Coke and cigarettes an essential part of writing -- they give her the necessary focus and energy/drive to crank out the pages. Debbie Macomber, on the other hand, comes up with new plot twists and characters in the evenings as she knits, since that's the time when she's most relaxed.

I'm *almost* certain I've seen a collection of essays with writers, in which they answer the essential quastions of creativity: where do you get your ideas, what's your writing routine, how do you know something is "right," when do you give up and scrap a project? I'll take a look around for it. In the meantime, Ursula K. LeGuin has written _Steering the Craft_, and Stephen King has a book out, _On Writing_ (?). Samuel R. Delany will be coming out with a book directed at college-age writers, but not until December, titled _About Writing_. There's also a bulletin board (posts locked, but accessible) for the National Novel Writing Month challenge which *might* have commentaries by writers on how they write/get ideas/form routines.

Looking forward to hearing from you tg, and from *everyone*, really, about the process, since we already have the product in front of us. :)

Tg,
I would love to read commentary on your fics. I definetly don't think it makes you seem full of yourself, I recently read commentary on another fic I had read and found it really interesting to get the writer's perspective. I really enjoy your writing so much that I would really appreciate more insight into your creative process and I'd love to know what you were thinking when you were writing.
So, anyway - I vote yes, please!
