Commentary
Jul. 21st, 2005 04:32 pmOkay... *huge warm hugs* As no one yet has thought it a terrible idea (and, on the contrary, everyone's been wonderful about it!)... does anyone have a preference as to what fic(s) you might like me to do a commentary for? My only preference is not The Ondarian Virus because.... well... LONG! And atypical, at that.
So... anyone curious about anything in particular and want to make a suggestion for a fic I should look at? Because otherwise it's me picking a number from 1-400 or something random like that :-)
On a complete unrelated note... we've got a new cat in our house as of last night. It's a neighborhood cat that some people in our development have been feeding but neglected to take to the vet for some reason. So my mom took her in yesterday. She's 2-3 years old but really, really tiny and skinny. She's white with bright blue eyes which means, yeah, deaf. But otherwise she's all right and now she's had her shots and she's living in a room in our basement until we know what to do with her. I just went down for the second time to see if I could get her to come out from behind the desk and not only did she come out but she JUMPED into my lap, lay down, and began kneading. So I think she's all right. She's SUCH a cutie!

Date: 2005-07-22 06:58 am (UTC)Unfortunately, she wouldn't be able to go outdoors at all if she lived with us. None of our cats are allowed to. She hasn't seemed to mind during the last day, though. Today she was just happy to see us and ran over and jumped in our laps the moment we walked in the room to see her. She is the sweetest, most affectionate cat I have ever met. Keeps noseying me and licking my nose (and hands and everywhere as she rubs against me trying to get me to pet her constantly).
Also unfortunately, we already have one dog and four cats in the house and my father (who is away in Manilla again on business) refused to allow another cat in the house. He was all for taking her to the vet and all, but didn't want us to keep her. He'll be furious to come home and find her here. So I think we're going to try to foster her until a home can be found, because the shelter is full to capacity at the moment (we've already called 4 places plus animal control re:neighbors who wouldn't take her to the vet for shots).
So in short: I would be THRILLED if we could keep her. She's so sweet and loving. And she's used to other animals and all so as long as the other cats liked her (they've only smelled her and been nervous over the last few days, never seen/met her yet) I don't think there should be any trouble. But my dad would go crazy. He thinks 4 cats in one small house is enough. But the animal control officer says you're not classified as a crazy cat person until you get to over 10. So we'd only be half crazy. And she's SO beautiful and sweet and TINY! She's so little and she's apparently 2-3 years old! And I just hate to think of her not being able to get the indoor-type petting that she obviously craves.
Hey, do you want a second cat? ;-)

Date: 2005-07-22 09:40 am (UTC)Darn you, woman! Don't tempt me!
I've wanted to get a second kitty very badly for over a year now. Eowyn is extremely attention-seeking and I'm gone 10+ hours a day when I'm working, and when I get home I'm usually too tired to play with her as much as she'd like. She acts nuts to get my attention when I'm home, especially when i'm on the computer...she hates the computer and has taken to jumping into the chair right before I sit down just so I have to pay attention to her and not the internet. I just can't seem to satisfy her with toys and stuff, so I think she needs a playmate.
What's holding me back is largely my apartment complex. I don't know how much longer I'll be in this particular one and I don't want to move right after I get a new kitty. Plus, if I stay here, I have limited space and I have no clue where I'd put a second litter box if they refused to share...and they charge me another $150 pet deposit plus an extra $25 a month in rent for another cat. I can cover the cost, it's no problem with my job, but I'd also have to get an extra cat carrier, and I'd be imposing more when I travel to visit friends and family (whose cats already hate it when I come to visit and bring Eowyn). Although the more I think about it, the more the thought of another adorable kitty face in the house is starting to override my concerns...better not travel to the animal shelter just right now, or I might bring a whole litter home on impulse!

P.S. Did I miss your posting of your Legolas/Haldir fic you were working on?

Date: 2005-07-22 07:07 am (UTC)As for Legolas/Haldir... I have a non-sneezing fic with them finished that I could post if you wanted. But the Haldir/young Legolas sneezefic is currently very not finished. It's got a strong first several pages, but there's a long way to go yet in it.
As for Refuge... that would be embarrassingly fun to revisit. And with two votes, I can hardly resit the request :-)
