RENT and The Island and other stuff

White Kitty (aka Sugar) is doing very well. We opened the door to the room we're keeping her in and put gates up over the doorway so the other animals can see in and she can see out. They can see and smell each other, but that's it. There's been lots of looking and a little hissing, which is natural. But she's not hiding in the corner when she sees them and they're not crying to get in and bother her. So all is proceeding well.

Yesterday, while waiting to watch The Behind the Scenes Island program on E! they had a coming attractions show and they showed the trailer for RENT (coming November 11th). First time I'd ever seen the trailer and I was floored. Luckily I had a tape in and ready and I hit record. I made it halfway through the trailer before BURSTING into tears. Mark is pure perfection (I don't think I'll keep thinking 'Adventures in Babysitting' while I'm watching it. He's so perfectly Mark). I'm Sooooooo excited about that. And Tom is perfect, too. And Angel. The little clip of Tom crying/in pain and Angel hugging his head to his chest KILLED me with happy. I didn't see much of Benny but if he's played by the nummy Taye Diggs I'm NOT worried. Roger is... not bad. Least he's got a leather jacket. And Mimi... my jury's still out. I think I'd need to hear her sing. And Maureen looks great, though there wasn't a lot of face time with her, or with Joanne. But it looks PERFECT! Funeral and cafe and apartment and writing song lyrics on a train and GAH! Sogoodsogoodsogood! I cannot wait!


I went and saw The Island today. It's been getting not-so-hot reviews, but I enjoyed it. Gee, wonder why? LOL Sean was amazingly evil- but believably evil. And the Ewans... oohhhh GODS but it was thrilling to see two Ewans on screen interacting with each other! *EG* It was pretty much what I expected. A concept that got me (I love Brave New World futuristic type stories... there's a word for that that starts with a D that I'm blanking on right now), lots of running and action (but not so much that it bored me), a few very cute moments, and lots of great characters. Plus quite a few wet!Ewan moments. And Steve was great as always. There's a Steve/Ewan scene that practically killed me with giggles and Steve's girlfriend is crazy evil woman from The Stand so I was momentarily on edge when she was on screen. But aside from that, it's pretty much just what I expected from the movie. Not brilliant, but not meant to be. But also far from disappointing. I'll definitely be buying it on DVD. Nummy nummy wet&running!Ewan. Oh, and I cried at the end but, yeah, I cry at everything. LOL Definitely a good, enjoyable movie. Was glad I had the day off today and could go see it on opening day.


Oh! And I'm hoping to finally go see RHPS tomorrow night with sister! *crossing fingers that she doesn't freak and back out this time* That should be a hoot. I love taking virgins and teaching the ropes. And it'll be fascinating to see how another cast handles things.

Just watched the Angel episode where Gavin is murdered. I read an interview with the actor who said his mother found it very hard to watch that episode. LOL Let's hope he doesn't get killed on LOST to put his mother through that again.

Okay, got to go test the VCR to make sure it's set up okay and I can tape Firefly and Stargate tonight.

I'm completely guessing here, but is that d-word "dystopia"? You know, the standard "city/world of the future is so f'ed up that it's barely livable" setting.

I'm really looking forward to Rent. I've heard most of the songs before, but I haven't actually seen it yet, so this exciting. I went to the site and watched the trailor after I read your post. Ooo, I'm SO excited! Idena Menzel - I saw her in Wicked and I can honestly say that I have NEVER been more upset to see something end. She was, please forgive the horrible pun, spellbinding.:) Adam Pascal - I've never seen him, but I fell in love with his voice on the Aida soundtrack three or four years ago. Very sexy and smooth. Yum. And Taye Diggs...oh, but I'm jealous of Idena, to be married to that lovely man. And all were in the original cast! Yay.

The Island was good? Yay. I'll have to go soon. Double the Ewan, double the fun.

From what little I saw of the trailer, it looks JUST like the musical, only not quite as sparse and not requiring as much imagination for the sets. The characters and settings look absolutely perfect. I can't imagine they'd mess up the plotline, either, so I'm definitely looking forward to it, too.

Oohhh- I'm glad you liked Idina Menzel! That's really good to hear. Maureen's role is one that needs to be done by someone special or it'll have no hope of charming an audience. I've seen Maureens flop on stage before, and I've seen ones that get thousands of people mooing along with her. So your opinion of her gives me a lot of hope :-) (And yes, damnit, I'm jealous as well! heehee)

But simply everyone looks to me like they came straight out of the musical and onto the screen. It's really thrilling.


And, yes, I definitely thought The Island was good. But there's really nothing they could have done to make me dislike it. If Ewan had just stood there reading off a script the whole time I would have been happy!

Eee, you saw the RENT trailer! Innit good?? The first time I saw it, I cried too. I think the part where I officially broke down completely was when Angel does the flip off the wall, and then... well, yeah. I cried like a baby and called my friend who's also a giant RENThead. When I told her it made me cry, she made me send it to her, because she thought I was being a wuss. I was on the phone with her when she watched it, and by the end SHE was crying. It was great and wonderful and ee. Aren't you just DYING for November? And hey, interesting fact -- it comes out on Canadian Remembrance Day. I think that's kinda fun.
I agree with you about Mimi thought -- I'm so much into the OBC, I'm kind of worried about Rosario Dawson playing Mimi. But she looks good so far. I'm just glad they got Idina and Taye back. Sigh. Perfection! :D

Ohhhh! It makes me feel SOOOO much better to know there are other people out there that felt the same way. I've cried during trailers a couple times before, but I thought maybe I was crazy here. *HUGE HUGS* Thank you for making me feel like less of a freak :-)

Out on Canadian Remembrance Day? That's very fitting indeed!

About the OBC... I know. I try to ignore those nagging thoughts in the back of my head every time I see it live, but on some level I'm always comparing since I know that soundtrack backwards and forwards. And I just love Mimi's voice SO much on the CDs. Those squeaks and her range and the cutness but strong sexiness... I will reserve judgement for when I hear Rosario, but she does fit the character well visually. I'm so excited about Idina and Taye, too. And I already adore Anthony Rapp so I'm not worried there (just downloaded a free mp3 off Amazon.com from one of his albums and, yeah, I'm not worried).

I was all squeey at the beginning. Practically bouncing in my seat with excitement. Mark! And look there's Tom! Awww and Angel! Oohh Roger and Mimi in the apartment! And somewhere in the middle- at the first funeral shot I assume- I went completely silent. Then a few moments later I was crying. Just streams of tears. God. NOTHING moves me like RENT does. On the rare occasion I make it through the Life Support meeting without crying, I never make it through the second act. I swear I'm going to go see this thing a half dozen times in theaters!!
