Random Highlander
Apr. 10th, 2003 10:06 pmI watched the Highlander episode 'Nowhere to Run' yesterday. It wasn't quite as bad as I'd remembered, even for season 1. You just gotta have pity on season 1. The poor thing. Anyway, I always described it as a combination of the Forever Knight episode about Diplomatic immunity and Home Alone. All the classic elements are there, bucket of hot oil over a doorway, doorknob with a wire running through it to provide a current, a giant blowtorch, saw blades, even a bear trap. But the episode wasn't quite as bad as I'd remembered- the people died... and there was a LOT of remorse about it from the good guys. Still, not anywhere near my top 50 favorite episodes LOL
So I just watched 'Epitaph for Tommy' which is in my top ten least favorite episodes. Therefore I hadn't seen it in a long time. I was surprised at the first half, starting to think to myself "actually, this isn't so bad either" when UG Voice-over negative camera image flashback montage of the entire episode- as if we weren't watching the first 30 minutes or forgot who characters were or something. There are only, like, 3 people integral to the plot, it's not THAT confusing LOL And then they try and overcompensate for a crappy plot and other things like the montage by staging both fight scenes in an amusement park. Neat place to set it, and cool special effects, but total overcompensation for an otherwise crappy show LOL. The actual flashback is pretty pointless, aside from seeing Duncan practically naked rolling around in a pile of hay with a girl who comes back in season 3 or 4 as another character because it's hard to find decent French actors. But the half naked bit if nice. ANd the amusement park- really only there for the coolness aspect- not at all integral to the plot. Makes for something pretty to watch. But I had to stop the episode twice to laugh in embarrassment. Yeah, it's still one of my very least favorite episodes :-)
