Legos! And Gargoyle-inspired fics :-)
Aug. 13th, 2005 01:47 amSo I was reading the weekend section of The Post during dinner and Eeeeeep! There's a Lego convention in town! They're having a public expo this Sunday at the Arlington Campus of GMU. I was there just a few months ago for a work seminar/conference so I know the area and I can take the metro there. Which ROCKS!
It's always been one of my dreams to see bigass things made out of Legos. I was in LOVE with Legos as a kid (okay, I still am *points to my Lego Millenium Falcon and Snape & Harry facing off over the map on my bookshelf*) and have never had an opportunity to see this kind of thing. I couldn't convince my friends to go see the Lego Land thing when we were down at Disney World so at least I'll get to see this. YAYNESS! So excited about Sunday. Though now I must get money out. If I'm careful I might just have enough to get there and back with admission and still have enough to go see The Brother's Grimm in theaters when it comes out. And hopefully I'll be paid on Monday (I haven't been paid in a month now... plus that week of vacation, so it's been a LONG while since I had anything going the right way into my bank account) so I can take care of the rest of my monthly bills then.
I watched the second disk of Gargoyles season 1 tonight. *sigh* I loved that show. And I was working on my LotR Legolas fic for 'Confused' just as the episode with John Rhys-Davies guest starring came on. Very inspirational indeed!
My faaaaavorite episode of the whole series just ended. It had some nice scenes with Michael Dorn, Jonathan Frakes, and Marina Sirtis all together at the same time. *giggles* Now I remember why I loved this show so much as a teen. Okay, that and adorable Gargoyles and lots of Scottish stuff. And sooooo much angst. Could there be any more angst? I think not! Nummy nummy nummy.
I actually wrote a sneezefic for that show when I was younger. Gods... ten years ago, give or take. I never actually wrote it down, just wrote it in my head all the time. And while I was watching it again tonight I decided I might try to actually write down what I had so far in my head... what I can remember at least. Might be kind of fun to relive those days of before I knew my interest in sneezing was actually a fetish, or that other people felt like me and wrote this kind of stuff, too. *blushes*

Date: 2005-08-13 08:55 am (UTC)That exhibit sounds really neat...I never experimented building with Legos much, but a store in my hometown once had a giant Lego R2D2 that I thought was the coolest thing ever.
And I freely admit that Marina Sirtis, Jonathan Frakes, and Michael Dorn were the main reason I watched Gargoyles. It helped fill that fandom hole that was left when ST:TNG ended, and then Gargoyles ended up being really interesting too, and it was even better.

Date: 2005-08-13 09:09 am (UTC)Though speaking of the lovely elf... I'm nearly done with my Legolas fic for the 'Confused' mood. I like parts of it... and dislike other parts. And it needs a tiny bit of editing here and there. But it's nearly done. So maybe that'll help me get him off my mind.
Legos were SO my childhood. Definitely my favorite toy EVER. I built whole mini towns and castles and had whole stories with plots revolving around my little lego characters. All the "custom" blocks they have nowadays ruin things a little though it makes for neat possibilities... I'm just a lego traditionalist.
A giant R2D2? Like life-size? How incredibly awesome!!! The newspaper mentioned a pirate ship so I'm excited about that. But I'd flip out at anything more fannish than that. *gets all excited again*
I had such a crush on Jonathan (and Wil, of course) when I was young and I couldn't resist Gargoyles once I knew who some of the voice actors were. Am very glad to know I wasn't alone in that draw. I am always amazed to find out how many people watched and enjoyed the show. The DVD has a bonus feature showing the annual conventions and I was rather shocked at how much of a following there is (and repeated mentioning of how the creator of the series loves reading fanfics the fans write and seeing the fanart galleries at the con was exciting).
