Tartan search!
Aug. 26th, 2005 05:38 pmSo my mother was unpacking some of the things from the shipment we got Sunday of things from my grandparents' house in Cali and she pulled out a kilt they'd apparantly set out for me and forgot to tell me about. Squeeeee!
Now I'm going through databases trying to find a match for the tartan. I have two kind close matches but nothing that matches perfectly yet. But I've only been through about 1,000. I'm enclosing a pic here in case anyone has any experience with this sort of thing and if anyone feels like searching through sites and helping me out ;-)

Squeeee! I have a kilt now! I've always wanted one. Thank you Grandma!

Date: 2005-08-27 07:09 pm (UTC)What I meant was that I didn't know WHAT plaid it was. My grandmother was English and my grandfather was German, so it's absolutely NOT a mylastname plaid. They took a trip to Scotland in the early 80's which is where I think they bought the kilt. What it is actually is still a mystery to me. I'm going through records of thousands of different tartan patterns trying to match them up to see which plaid this is exactly. The closest match so far is Clan MacAart but it's not exact (not enough red & yellow lines and a 1x1 green square in the middle instead of a 2x2 one. http://clan.com/tartanfinder.html?search_clan=%27MacAart%27:id=iFWj4Ug2
The runner up is much more likely name-wise. The name sounds very much like my grandparents' last name phonetically. The bodyguard version of the clan is rather close but still not exact.
So, yeah, I'm just trying to figure out what this IS, not what to wear with it :-)
