Song contest answers!
Oct. 20th, 2005 04:06 amSo it's the 20th and the song guessing contest has now officially ended. Thank you to everyone who played- hope you had fun trying to make sense of my madness. Incidently, I've been listening to the CD in the car all week and I'm sure my boss' daughter (who I've been driving home from school a lot) definitely thinks I'm weird now. LOL
ANSWERS:
Whew! Okay now that I've bored you all... it's time for the winners! Yes, because I wanted to be fair (and these were hard songs for anyone who's not me or, apparently, a DJ!) I decided to reward the first, second, and third place winners with fics! So the winners are:First Place: Kai with 18 correct
Second Place: Lady Korana with 14 correct
Third Place: tma with 8 correct
So I'll write a fic of your choosing for each of you (though the first place story will probably be longer than the other two, to be fair). Let me know what you'd like when you get a chance and I'll get writing & do my very best with them. Congrats!!!
ANSWERS:
- "I believe in karma, what you give is what you get returned. I believe you can't appreciate real love til you've been burned. I believe the grass is no more greener on the other side. I believe you don't know what you've got until you say goodbye."
Affirmation sung by Savage Garden- my absolute favorite song ever now. I love and believe every line. It's my personal anthem. And I fell in love with this first because of a QaF fanvid - "You've gotta saddle up your boys. You've gotta draw a straight line. When the dust cloud settles we'll sing a victory tune."
Whiskey for My Men, Beer for My Horses sung by Toby Keith & Willie Nelson- really random, I know, but it's also from a QaF fanvid (appropriately for season 3) and I have fun with it (I've got hand gestures...) - "Cinderella said to Snow White, 'How does love get so off course?' All I wanted was a white knight with a good heart, soft touch, fast horse."
This Kiss sung by Faith Hill- I've always liked this song, but especially because there's a fantastic 10th Kingdom fanvid for this (anyone sensing a pattern here?) - "Where are those happy days? They seem so hard to find. I try to reach for you but you have closed your mind. Whatever happened to our love?"
SOS sung by ABBA- I just love ABBA muchly and this one's fun to sing to - "kono inochi sae mo nagedashi toki no naka de moetsukiru sono isshun ni kuchizuke"
Velvet Underworld sung by Weiß- my all-time favorite anime song to sing along to. Plus lovely visions of the cute, angsty, tough boys - "Hemingway, Eichmann, Stranger in a Strange Land, Dylan, Berlin, Bay of Pigs invasion, Lawrence of Arabia, British Beatlemania, Ole Miss, John Glenn, Liston beats Patterson"
We Didn't Start the Fire sung by Billy Joel- I taught myself this song after I heard it the first time and I've always loved it. I nearly went with River of Dreams for this CD instead as my Billy Joel pick (and am sad both didn't fit) but this one's more fun to sing to. - "Underneath the starlight, starlight there's a magical feeling so right. It will steal your heart tonight"
Can't Fight the Moonlight sung by LeAnn Rimes- This one always makes me think of Sirius and Remus, so it was definitely a must - "Any owner of the lot next door has a right do to with it as he pleases. Happy birthday, Jesus."
You'll See sung by [all the cute boys in] the original cast of RENT- this is my favorite song from RENT as it's got all the boys and a lot of fantastic moments. I adore Collins' sarcasm here, as well as the "I like boys" "Boys like me" lines at the end of course. But in general I think it does a lot to establish and flesh out their characters' views, similarities, and differences. - "Well I love the way the world is your garden. You plant your seeds and you let them grow. And you take things out of the ground just like you take what comes, but you never know"
What Do You Love More than Love? sung by Dar Williams- Dar! I had to have a Dar song. Took me forever to choose but this one's so beautiful and upbeat and has some fantastic lines that speak to me. - "I said come on down to Chicano City Park wash your blues away. The beautiful ladies walk right by and you know I never know what to say"
Shame on You sung by The Indigo Girls- I love their music and, though it's a popular one of theirs, it's a song I adore and LOVE singing along to - "It was good. It was bad but it was real and that's all you have: in the end our love mattered."
Escape sung by Enrique Iglesias- I've always loved the beginning and ending bits, but this always makes me think of my Strokes series now and Sweetie & Jamie so it's a happy-making song and made the CD - "I'll be the one to tuck you in at night. And if you want to leave I can guarantee you won't find nobody else like me"
Follow Me sung by Uncle Kracker- I try not to listen to the actual meaning of the song and, instead, focus on the LotR Sam & Frodo fanvid I'd like to make to this one day and to the Quantum Leap fanvid I love featuring this song. heehee - "Everybody here is out of sight. They don't bark and they don't bite. They keep things loose, they keep things light"
Dancin' in the Moonlight sung by King Harvest- This also makes me think of Remus & Sirius (wonder why) but it's a bouncy and fun song and one I recently fell in love with - "You can smile every smile for the man who held your hand beneath the pale moonlight. But don't forget who's taking you home and in whose arms you're gonna be"
Save the Last Dance for Me sung by The Drifters- there's a method to the madness and all the songs in the CD transition from one to the other in a way that makes sense in my head. But this one's pretty obvious because of the dancing song before it. Anyway, yes, it's here because of that QaF scene I just love. - "For we who grew up tall and proud in the shadow of the mushroom cloud convinced our voices can't be heard, we just wanna scream it louder and louder and louder: What the hell we fighting for? Just surrender and it won't hurt at all"
Hammer to Fall sung by Queen- I actually do scream those lines when singing alone in my car. I LOVE this song. This one and Radio Ga Ga are perhaps my two favorite Queen songs. I had it on the CD as well but I had to cut something and 3 Queen songs were just too much. But this one stayed. It's a live version and has a few 'sing along' parts that are fun. But I just really like this song and its lyrics - "Dining at the Ritz we'll meet at nine (one two three four five six seven eight nine o'clock). I will pay the bill, you taste the wine. Driving back in style, in my saloon will do quite nicely. Just take me back to yours that will be fine (Come on and get it)"
Good Old Fashioned Loverboy sung by Queen- I love every Queen song but this used to be at the bottom of the list. It's risen to the top lately because it was on QaF and because I like counting along there at that part, and singing along to the "Come on and get it" line. And, I'm ashamed to say, I have a HUGE weakness at the moment for the phrase "take me back to yours" or variations thereof ('want to come back to mine?', 'let's go to yours', etc.) so this song had to be here just for that *blushes* - "I hope you don't mind that I put down in words how wonderful life is now you're in the world"
Your Song sung by Ewan- of course Ewan! Not that I don't love Elton John but, come on, you know me! I love the eye-color line and the way he sings it just kills me with happy - "We should be lovers. We can't do that. We should be lovers, and that's a fact. Though nothing will keep us together. We could steal time just for one day. We could be heroes, for ever and ever."
Elephant Love Song sung by Ewan & Nicole- my boss' daughter today asked in the car if that was really Nicole singing :-) Anyway, yes, of course I had to have more than one Ewan song. Every time I hear this I can just see his face light up at the first "We should be lovers!" line *dies with happy* And I have a near orgasm at how he says the word "won't" at this part just before the above lines: "You, you will be mean" "No I won't" "And I... I'll drink all the time" *dies again* There are a few words pronounced certain ways that really get to me and that's one of them. So I had to have this song. - "Yesterday I cried. You must have been relieved to see the softer side [of Sears]. I can understand how you'd be so confused. I don't evny you. I'm a little bit of everything all rolled into one."
Bitch sung by Meredith Brooks- the "of Sears" part is a joke I've always put in and one my college roommate and I had for years. I love this song. It describes me SO well. - "Maybe it's a sign of weakness that I don't know what to say. Maybe I just wouldn't know what to do with my strength anyway."
We Belong sung by Mixed Emotions- ME is an acappella group from my college (a guy from my high school creative writing class who I had a crush on was in the group when they made this recording) and I love the way they handle this song. And I love the song in general. Had to have at least one great 80's song on here and this one is SO perfect for Legolas/Gimli - "Valentine is done. Here but now they're gone. Romeo and Juliet are together in eternity"
Don't Fear the Reaper sung by Blue Oyster Cult- I gotta have more cow bell! 'Nuff said!

Date: 2005-10-20 08:04 pm (UTC)For me... well... I have 3 little ideas. Whichever is the easiest or your muse leads you to works.
1)I Adore House MD (but I don't know if you watch it). Sneezy Chase would be very fun. Otherwise Wilson, or House. And just to tempt you- I don't mind slash with House/Wilson or House/Chase. (not that offering sarcastic dr. and potential slash scenarios would be at All temping *hehehe*)
2)This would be easier- since I Know that you know the series and he is just Too geeky and cutie and yummy- sneezy Daniel. *drool*
3) Or... sneezy Gilbert from Anne of Green Gables. I adored the other fict. that you wrote with him. Very yummy.
Thanks so much!! You are awesome. And you always absolutely amaze me with how well you write and with Such a variety and the amount that you can write. Wow!! If I get on a roll for a bit I always seem to get stuck and can't find a good wrapping up place. And that is another thing that you do so well. Btw- thanks also for writing site suggestions that you put on yahoo group. Those are awesome!
*hugs*

Date: 2005-10-21 01:45 am (UTC)But the other two I can definitely handle. I haven't read any of the books for many years so a Gilbert fic might have to be movie-based, if that's all right with you. Though I'm leaning towards the Daniel one at the moment. However, Kai requested an SG-1 fic as well so we'll see. I can definitely absolutely write a fic for #2 or #3 though. Any preference on pairings, situations, etc.?

Date: 2005-10-21 08:45 pm (UTC)I started watching it because I was interested in seeing this thing with Hugh Laurie who I knew from Blackadder. Very odd not hearing the Brit. accent. But he is an awesome actor in my opinion. :)
Anyway.... sorry for long rambling explaination and such. Figured that I'd give you a bit to go on for deciding if it'd be up your alley to see at some point. *I'm Always glad when people give me a little background on things so that I'm on the fence re: or that they think are great so I can figure out if it's something I'm into or not*
Moving on.... I figured that if I had three ideas then that would be good base.
for SG-1..... Hmmm.... Daneil angst but cozy at end. pref. a cold. And pairing- doesn't matter. Can be paired- or not.
if Gilbert.... can be from movie- not a prob. Maybe allergy or cold. Doesn't want Anne to know. Maybe having done something sweet like picked flowers or given her his jacket or something he ends up suffering and not wanting her to know.
Thanks again so, so, so, so Very much!!

whoa! a lot of that was good luck...
Date: 2005-10-21 12:49 am (UTC)Anyways, this was a great idea! I hope everyone had as much fun playing as I did.
As for a fic... after some consideration, I think I'd like SG-1... Het. (or team) Jack if that's alright!

Re: whoa! a lot of that was good luck...
Date: 2005-10-21 01:52 am (UTC)Absolutely! I've got a nice idea rolling around in my head for this as we speak. Is a coldfic okay?
Heehee. It's definitely strange how easy it is to identify songs even if you haven't heard them in years. There's just something about lyrics (and tunes for most people) that just stick in my head even though I'm a very forgetful person by nature.
As for the fairness thing, I see no reason to throw out your entry just because you've got knowledge of the subject area. If we can't use our talents and advantages from time to time what good is having them? So congrats!
Oh, and I usually dislike country bigtime, so give me pretty much any recent popular country song and I'd be COMPLETELY clueless. But it's pretty ironic that you missed that one, considering your current work. Ah well. No worries at all :-)
