tarotgal: (Slash is sexy)

DAMN! If only I had an extra 20 hours in a day! The deadline's far too soon for me to write anything. *pouts* But I thought I would share (was just posted to the M-A list):

Acacia Group's 2006 Conference: Politicizing texts The Acacia Group
of California State University, Fullerton is seeking papers for our
2006 conference to be held February 17 and 18, 2006. We are
interested in papers/presentations for the following suggested panel:

Slash Fan Fiction

Slash fan fiction is one of the most popular forms of fan fiction on
the Internet. Beginning with stories featuring the pairing of Kirk
and Spock from Star Trek in the 1970s and exploding into numerous
stories based in, but not limited to, Lord of the Rings, Harry
Potter, and Star Wars, slash fan fiction takes reader-response
theory into creative praxis as fans rewrite fiction. What is the
inspiration for writing slash? Is it the homerotic subtext in
the cannon? If so, how does one see that? Why is slash so popular
among mostly heterosexual women? Why are there more male/male
pairings than female/female?

Papers discussing topics and controversies of slash fan fiction are
welcome. We are accepting completed paper submissions only, no
abstracts, please. Creative writing/productions/performance
contributions are encouraged to function as commentaries on or
expressions of any and all topics listed, or, they may be submitted
individually for special panel consideration. Submissions that
will not be presented in written form (performances, art, etc.) must
include a brief (1-2) page explanation of the submission's relevance
to the topic/theme, materials used, and concepts explored. All
presentations, whether written, performed, or shown, may not exceed
20 minutes.

Submission Deadline: December 17, 2005
Conference Date: February 17-18, 2006
Sender: owner-cfp@lists.sas.upenn.edu
Precedence: bulk

Fullerton. Some strange memories from that place. When we went down to LA for band festivals and competition in high school we would stop off there or UCLA for a clinic. I think the competition was even held there, once. All I remember is that there was a strange music teacher there that tried to show us how to properly breath while playing by telling us to put our heads between our knees to show us some exercise. Yeah.
