Date: 2006-01-09 08:00 am (UTC)The HP H/C group is not the least bit active. But some of the links still work and the older messages are on there. It's all gen, which is why I think it's not so popular.
It's here if you want to take a look: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HarryPotterHC

Date: 2006-01-09 04:39 am (UTC)Also, does this H/C list have an archive or anything? I'm always looking for more H/C fic, but that list is the first list I've ever seen that requires you to write a certain number of fics per year to belong, and obviously, I'm not a big writer. I'd love to read them, but the list doesn't think I'm worthy. :(

Dues counts as anything on the H/C list: a rec, a LoC(feedback), a challenge bunny, an icon, a story, etc. So you don't actually have to be a writer to participate in the list. They just want to be sure people there aren't lurking all the time. Which, I guess, is nice. (As a lurker, it scares me, but I love H/C so I don't mind so much- if it was anything else I might have turned tail and ran long ago). So I'd recommend giving it a try anyway. One piece of feedback every two months isn't too hard to manage :-)
Now, as for the archive... yes and no. All stories posted on PEJA's mailing lists (and by my count there are at least 40) all filter into one single archive: THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF MAKEBELIEVE or WWoM. It's very difficult to navigate through looking for only hurt/comfort fics, and most of the h/c fics aren't specifically labelled as such in the archive anyway.

Date: 2006-01-09 11:55 pm (UTC)And, yeah, the count is getting up there, isn't it? Maybe I should call it the 'TG is obsessed with writing sneezefics and has no life' count? Ghods... 300... And I still remember a time when I didn't know what the word fanfic meant...

Date: 2006-01-09 11:53 pm (UTC)Yes, more H/C fans of any flavor out there are great in my book!
As for the "non-shippy" comment, I believe that is there because the HP H/C list the rec was posted to is one for gen fics (no het, no slash, no romantic/sexual relationships of any kind).
Which, I believe, is one of the reasons the list is so dead. To me, relationships are the very core of the "comfort" part of hurt/comfort. I adore friends taking care of friends and family taking care of family... all that love and caring is great. But I really love when people in relationships care for each other... it's probably because I see sneezing as sexual and romantic that I associate it with romance and sex :-)

Date: 2006-01-09 11:04 pm (UTC)My best friend, who I've never spoken a word about sneezing to before, ever, just emailed me the same rec and link to your page, with a little note saying that she knows I don't read all that much HP, but that this site has HP H/C that she thinks I will like. Hehe. Yeah, I like them more than she knows. *G*
Now, this is my very best friend...I know most, if not all, of her turn-ons and quirks, I trust her above all others I know in real life (well, her and the other friend I've already told about it, but it's easier to tell someone you don't have to see face to face as often), and I've been wanting to tell her about my fetish for quite some time, but I've always chickened out and/or not been able to find the right way share this with her.
We became best friends because our personalities are so similar, though we concentrate on different fandoms, and in fact, she doesn't care for LOTR at all. But we understand the fannish drive in each other, and she tolerated the LOTR museum exhibit for my sake, because she knew how happy it would make me. It's been no secret between us that we both adore angst/HC fic. She's dabbled in writing Draco-abuse fics, and she knew that I liked to hang out on the Muldertorture Anonymous and Danny-whumping sites, and actively looked for the same in LOTR and each new fandom.
I never told her about sneezing, though I'd been dropping hints lately about how I'd been enjoying fics where Legolas got sick, but I framed it more in terms of vulnerability and caring and took care never to mention colds or sneezing. I laughed out loud when she rec'd me your site today, and I came clean to her. I told her I'd already read all the stories on your site, some many times over, and that I shared your 'interest' in sneezing. I told her the nature of the gift fic you were writing for me, and told her to look around in the LOTR section and you'd see other refrences to me occasionally. She told me that she had noticed my fic interests shifting and that this new revelation didnt' surprise her at all. She was totally accepting and didn't even blink (as much as one can blink when chatting, that is), and I can't believe I was ever nervous about telling her! I'm not entirely sure she realizes how very sexual it can be for me, but if it ever comes up, at least now that it's out in the open, I won't be worried about discussing it.
How's that for coincidence?! :)

Date: 2006-01-10 12:03 am (UTC)How freaking cool is that?!!!! *HUGE HUGS* I'm so glad you "came out" to her, and that she was so cool with it. Anyone who'd rec my stuff's gotta be sweet enough in my book! ;-) LOL!
Seriously, that's incredible. I couldn't stop laughing throughout your post. What a small world the internet is! I am surprised she didn't see the references to you on the LotR page. 'Gift for Lady Korana' as a title is kind of an obvious reference, innit? heehee
I'm SO glad this gave you the opportunity to share a little more of yourself with your best friend. And I hope she's laughing as much as you are about the coincidence! How amazingly cool!!!
Your gift fic's up to 9 pages now... still a ways to go, though, I'm afraid. But just wanted to give you an update since you mentioned it :-)
Oh and Draco-abuse, you say? *perks up*

Date: 2006-01-10 02:30 am (UTC)What's really amazing is that it was all built up in my mind as the biggest, most secret of all secrets, and she thought it was no biggie at all. We talked more and I'm pretty sure she understands that there is a sexual connection. She admitted herself that she thought it was hot to take care of a sick boyfriend. Interestingly, she commented that she imagined coughing would be more of interest than sneezing, but that sneezing is a logical extension of an interest in Hurt/comfort and vulnerability-creating illness. I just love it that she gets the concept, and I can talk to her about all the things that make me happy now! *HUGS* It's SUCH a relief!
She pretty much only looks for HP fic, and some anime like Weiss, and really dislikes LOTR, so that's why she didn't see my name. She would never have clicked on it for herself.
9 pages? And a ways to go? Whoa! As if I wasn't already looking forward to reading it... Thanks for the update!
And the first two chapters of her Draco fic are here: http://www.adultfanfiction.net/aff/story.php?no=544208273 She doesn't get a chance to work on it often, but I know she'd love any feedback.
