I'm really sorry but this just fell out. He's just sooooo cute all almost-frozen *EG* Spoilers abound! Be warned!!!!!
Also, it's my first attempt at this and I DEFINITELY don't have the characters down yet. So consider this just play. I probably messed him up or went all wacky or something. Really the whole thing's just badly-written fluff that's an excuse for some warm fuzzies at the sneezes and a laugh at the end. Feedback is welcomed, nonetheless.

Summary: After Reed nearly gets frozen, he suffers from a few nummy, albeit predictable, aftereffects.
Notes: I'm sorry, I just couldn't resist. Lucky for you I resisted the urge to write Reed/Johnny this time around, though. Out of respect to the characters I didn't want to take it quite that far my first time out.
Reed sat down in the desk chair, which rolled back an inch from momentum. The blanket around his shoulders slipped down and he stretched his arms back to easily reach it and wrap it around himself again. He shivered, without stop, and leaned back in the chair, reclining slightly as he tried to get in control of himself again. Back to work. Back to normal. Or at least as normal as he could be after the exposure.
During the fight, there had been no time for self-evaluation. It was pick yourself up, stop the evil man, try not to die, and worry about yourself later. But now that he was back at his lab, and now that Von Doom had been stopped, Reed could afford to let himself go.
Well, while he went over the status of the machine, that is. He reached out beneath the blanket to work the mouse and he tried to focus on the computer screen. But his lower lip twitched and his nostrils flared. His eyes started to close slowly, then slammed closed. "Ehhppp-Shuhhh!" A wave of dread passed through him. The shivering was one thing, but the sneezes were quite another.
He shivered violently and hugged the blanket more tightly around himself. It didn't help. He still felt as though he were strapped to the chair, still felt frozen from within. No matter how he tried to concentrate on his work, his shivering wasn't going to stop until he did something about it.
He got up and headed towards the kitchen, grabbing a second blanket from his bed along the way. He grabbed a mug from the cabinet, filled it with tap water, and then popped it into the microwave oven for a minute, spilling just a bit because of his shaking hands.
He caught a glimpse of his reflection in the oven as he passed and grimaced at his appearance. He looked pale- but perhaps that was just the fault of the glass door and the white oven interior. And he looked tired- but that was to be expected, given what he'd been through tonight and all the nights since the space station. He'd been pushing himself so hard lately, he wasn't surprised to look tired. But he also looked sick. He didn't want to admit it, even to himself, but he did look sick. Fortunately, he was as good at being in denial as he was at hiding his condition and emotions. At least for a little while.
Reed could not possibly imagine how two minutes suddenly became such a long period of time. He shifted his weight from one foot to the other, trying to ignore the way he needed to sniffle and couldn't stop shivering. He could, however, imagine crawling into bed with Sue right now. The thought made a somewhat sly smile appear on his face. Or, better yet, snuggle up with Johnny who was guaranteed to be warm enough to help. Or perhaps Ben could just knock him out for a little while to force him to get some rest so that when he woke up all of the cold would be forgotten.
"hehhhhh!" He inhaled, holding his breath with two fingers pressed to his nose. The microwave finished with a ding but his other hand held the blankets in place and he could not reach for the mug just yet. "heh…ehpppShooo! Hahschhhh!"
There was one more sneeze back there, making his nostrils twitch and breaths hitch. And Reed got the feeling that this would not be forgotten after a short rest or denied for much longer, either. He was loathe to admit it, but he was definitely coming down with something now. "I s-see how it is," he said out loud to himself. "Get exposed to a radiation storm, nearly freeze to death, and save the world. Then instead of being able to come home and work as I'd like I-hehhh… I-hehhhh! I get this. Heptchooo!" His eyes closed again, and he was tossed forward, his torso extending a little too far in the process such that his shoulder bumped the microwave. The mug inside tipped and a good deal of the water sloshed out.
That was easy to fix, however. A cold was not. There was not, as of yet, any equation or science that could help that. And he wasn't going to be able to hide this from the others for very long, either. Might as well just come to terms with it. Reed straightened up and his form returned to normal as he rubbed at his nose, sniffling and still shivering. "I'm sick. That's great," he said sarcastically, rolling his eyes. "Just fantastic."

Date: 2006-01-17 05:52 am (UTC)This is one movie I did actually see . Reed is very cute and "Reed-like" if that makes sense. And I did notice you mentioned it would be "better" to crawl in bed with johnny - only for the warmth though, of course. Why else would he want to crawl in bed with Johnny?
It's , I'm not sure how to word this,(I'm so tired my brain is limited tonight) so nicely descriptive, so many "just right" details really set the scene perfectly.
Sorry this fb is anything but articulate. I probably should have waited til morning when I might sound almost intelligent but I didn't want to forget to post it.

Date: 2006-01-18 03:48 am (UTC)I am *so* glad you thought he was Reed-like! Like I said to tma, I still don't *feel* him the way I do when I write a character I know. But I'm glad you thought it worked for you.
As for crawling in bed with Johnny... okay, yeah, one tiny reference. Just for the warmth, of course, as you say. Absolutely. But I resisted the urge to MAKE him do that. I'm aching to write a sequel though... LOL.
so many "just right" details
Awwww! Thank you! That really means a lot to me! I really wasn't sure about this. So I'm thrilled you thought the little bits worked so well!
Thank you so much for taking the time, really :-) *hugs*

Date: 2006-01-17 08:15 pm (UTC)Sooooo happy to see someone torturing (errr.... playing with) Reed.
Loved it. It was Very "Reed" like. I could completely see him acting like that.
Thanks so much. :D

Date: 2006-01-18 03:36 am (UTC)I'm very glad you enjoyed my playing... and torturing... sure, it's torturing. But it's just a cold and lots of shivers. He'll be okay, I promise. *volunteers to snuggle him*
And I'm so glad you thought it was Reed-like! I didn't *feel* him when I wrote it... so I don't think I got him quite right exactly, but it means a lot that you thought it worked. Thank you for the helpful feedback!

Date: 2006-01-18 03:32 am (UTC)I definitely fell in love with the movie. Possibly because I've loved Michael since I was, like, 10 and I've loved Julian for something like five years and I'm currently madly in love with Ioan... but it was a very enjoyable movie even without the boys I love :-)
I'm glad you liked the fic! Even if Reed is sad. *snuggles Reed*
I liked Johnny a lot, too. What woman wouldn't? He's a fun guy!! He's a teenager in the original comics, but I'm really happy with what they did and what he did with his character in the movie :-)

Date: 2006-01-21 04:00 pm (UTC)It's already been said, but from what's here, the characterization and details look just perfect to me. At least if you're going by movieverse. I haven't read the comics, so I wouldn't know if it were off in that area. ;) And because it's short, I don't think you actually have to worry about that at all anyway. It's just enough to enjoy Reed and his yummy sneezes, and not too much that you're bogged down by canon. In a good way.
And I wanted to give longer feedback, but all I can think right now is "mmmmmmmmmmmReed/Ioan-y sneezes..." Ahem. :P So yeah! All kinds of lovely right here, and thank you so much for writing this! :D

Date: 2006-01-21 06:03 pm (UTC)Yay!!! The only reason I wanted to see the movie was because of Julian... though that was before I saw any HH and I didn't know Ioan or that he was in it. The reason I'm going to be *buying* this movie is because of Ioan. He's sooooooo adorable. The commentary with his accent in full... the brief conversation during the movie about the cast catching colds... Ioan mentioning HH in one of the interviews in the extras... and the video diary where Ioan's all jokey and casual, and admits in one part he was feeling sick that morning (something he ate... which normally would be ICK to me but is sooo cute coming from him with that smile and that "the show must go on, I'm here instead of still in bed" sort of attitude). SQUEEE! I mean, the movie was great (I've ADORED Michael since I was a kid) but the DVD extras really got me.

I know a few major differences (from watching all the extras and such) but I don't know the comics well at all. I'm glad you thought it looked good movie-verse wise at least :-)

*EG* Very much yay :-)

You're welcome! I'm glad you enjoyed it! Thanks so much for reading and giving feedback!
