So... yikes. What a night. The guy who lives next door to us is a jerk. He's renting. He works for the military (like most of Northern Virginia) but is incredibly mean. HUGE temper, yells at us every time we mow our lawn too close to his (despire us showing him the property line). He spits every time my mother or I walk by and he almost hit my father once. Several time we've heard very loud yelling and banging from next door but the woman who lives there with him (they're not married, but her daughter lives there sometimes as well) is sometimes outside crying or talking on the phone outside where he can't hear her. She's a SWEETHEART. She holds down 4 different jobs and is incredibly smart and nice. We've all made it clear to her that she can always come to us or talk to us if needed. My mom's also offered her "help" if she ever needs it.
So tonight when I went to walk the neighbor's dog there was a woman outside their house, talking through the door to someone. Yelling things like "let me in!" and she looked like she couldn't get the door open. She was out there for at least 10 minutes. About half an hour later the assistant to the woman who actually owns the house (she's had maybe 5 families there renting from her in the time we've lived here) was over. We called her (she lives several towns over) and apparently the front door knob/lock was broken so he was there fixing it. Apparently they're very "hard" on all the knobs in the house- all were broken and handles on appliances had been pulled off as well.
We heard banging from next door and assumed it was the guy fixing things. Then we look outside and there are SIX police cars. My dad was out walking the dog and the police told him to move on. But he saw the neighbor woman crying on another woman's shoulder and saw someone being taken away in a police car. Later we saw an ambulance and neighbor woman limping out of the ambulance into her house, supported by her daughter in pajamas. Thank gods she's not hurt worse, and the daughter looked fine.
But OH my gods. Poor thing. I'm really worried about her but thank gods the police got involved, finally. SO terrible. And scary. Knew that guy was mental.
Kinda scary- I started writing a story this morning with a domestic abuse theme in it... I need to stop writing things with heavy themes because fate clearly is paying attention. Yikes.
