Blah and yay
Apr. 28th, 2006 02:12 amThink I'm getting sick. Feeling very weird all day. But I had the day off of work (spent it running errands and sleeping) and same with tomorrow- though tomorrow I have a shitload of work to do from home.
Anyway... I must give a HUGE, major, belated thank you to
brigidmn for the LJ renewal! THANK YOU!!!!!!!! Apart from being one less thing for me to remember/worry about and one less thing for me to have to pay for, it's also incredibly appropriate and thoughtful and sweet! Thank you!!! *HUGE HUGS* You ROCK!
I've got some more work-related sneezing obs to write up... I keep meaning to, but I need to remember to do it soon. I also have remembered to do the weekly hatching thing... but I haven't yet, because I'm an idiot. I remembered on Sunday, but got way too busy with work. And I remembered on Wednesday but then I crashed and slept ALL DAY and night. But I promise it's on my list for today. Sorry for the delay. RL's been a you know what :-)
I also wanted to recommend the Stargate movie tie-in novel. I bought it a few weeks ago off my library's sale shelf. I read through a lot of it tonight... and from a SF standpoint, I definitely recommend it *G* I love Daniel's scramble for something to sneeze into at one point, the mention of the fact that he's rubbing his nose with toilet paper, his almost constant sneezing once he goes through the StarGate, and him suddenly sneezing "eleven times in rapid succession". Now why the heck wasn't THAT in the movie? *EG* And I especially love the fact that the authors went as far as to spell out the sneeze he has right before going through the gate. *G* In general, it's a nice read, though. I love how young Danny boy seems (his "I knew it!" dance, for example, is priceless) and the Jack/Daniel relationship comes through nicely on paper as well as on screen. Though I have noticed at least two spelling/grammar errors *facepalm* but I'm willing to overlook them for the cuteness that is this book :-)

Date: 2006-04-28 11:16 am (UTC)The Stargate book sounds good, I might be one of those that I buy discreetly - but I don't think my husband could possibly think I'm anymore geeky than he already does lately. What was the name of the book?
Talk to you soon!

Date: 2006-04-28 08:23 pm (UTC)The book is:
Title- Stargate
Authors- Dean Devlin & Roland Emmerich
It's a tie-in with the movie (I'm assuming it's a novelization of the movie... though it doesn't exactly say which came first).
The movie's lovely as well, if you haven't already seen it. A handful of sneezes, just not as many as in the book *G* For example...
Swerving along a twisting two-lane highway deep in the Colorado Rockies, Daniel, never a very good driver, felt it was necessary to check his road map every time he was headed into a turn. As if this weren't dangerous enough, he was sneezing constantly. Over his right shoulder, the back-seat was awash with moist tissue paper.
Gods I love Daniel
"I'm Daniel Jackson," he said, as if the men at the gate should have been expecting him. "I didn't think I was going to make it."
"Your credentials?"
Daniel made a violent grab for something on the seat, and before the Marines could draw their weapons, he sneezed into it, then tossed it over his shoulder. He handed the stack of papers Catherine had given him over to the guard, who studeied him carefully. Daniel sneezed again.
"You've got quite a cold there, Doctor Jackson," observed the soldier, inspecting the vehicles's littered interior.
"Uh-huh. Allergies," Daniel told him. "Always happens when I travel."
And all that shows up in the movie as one sneeze as part of a very quick 12-second interplay in the elevator between Daniel and a random military guy. ("Cold?" "Allergies. This happens when I travel.") Fastest elevator ride I've ever seen, mind.
