L is for...
May. 20th, 2006 03:01 pmComment on this entry and I will give you a letter. Write ten words beginning with that letter in your journal, including an explanation what the word means to you and why, and than pass out letters to those who want to play along. The Letter "L" was given to me by
tinadp
I feel like an episode listing of The L Word all of a sudden! LOL! I tried to pick interesting things... but I feel bad for excluding 'Language' and 'Literature'
L is for...
LiveJournal- which is making it possible for me to make this list in the first place! When I got my first account, I wasn’t very active… but now I’m to the point where I adore my paid account and extra user icons :-) *pets pretty LJ*
Love- I use this word waaaaaaaaay too often, especially in feedback. I just can’t think of many other words to use to describe how happy things make me. But I’m rather manic-depressive and, when I rate things, I either love something or I hate it. I honestly have no in-between. So I really do mean it every time I say it… even though I say it so very, very much.
Leontopithecus rosalia- One of less than a handful of scientific names that I know. I fell in love with Golden Lion Tamarins very early in life and my local zoo has a special program with them. I’ve done school projects on them and even have a few special stuffed animal GLT’s (in my apartment, I had a little corner of my bedroom just for them, with a few post cards and photos I’ve taken over the years). Over the last week or two I’ve been thinking of volunteering at the zoo on weekends to be a GLT counter (they have some free-range ones so volunteers watch them all day to record their movements). But I’m not good in the sun and I just discovered yesterday that the training was last week.
LikLik- He and Puss were my first two cats. LikLik was born a few months before me (I called him my Big Brother) and he used to sleep on my mom’s belly when she was pregnant with me. He lived to be 20, which wasn’t nearly long enough. He was the sweetest and nicest cat I’ve ever met (not too bright- he peed on plastic things like his food dish- but very loveable). His name meant ‘Little One’
Lavender- The color of my room in my childhood home (up on the market now) when we moved in. I was overjoyed with it and cherished it for many years. My parents eventually repainted it white (which I was okay with as I was going through my 101 Dalmatians period, but they wouldn’t paint giant black spots on the walls for me).
LOGO- I am utterly OBSESSED with the LOGO channel. I still watch TNT when I sleep, but I watch LOGO for a few hours every night and for most of the weekends. I’m just in love with the gay and lesbian programming. From programming like Noah’s Arc and Tales of the City to the AIDS Ride and the coming out stories to all the short films and the fantastic movies I watch over and over again.
Lord of the Rings- This was possibly my very first fandom (apart from Sesame Street). My parents played the audio tapes for me when I was 3 or 4… I actually remember listening to them when I had the stomach flu one year in our first house in North Carolina. I remember being very scared of the dragon in the Hobbit, but I also have this vivid memory of a cartoon version of it which showed Frodo’s finger bitten off and I remember being terrified of that image of his hand! I didn’t even see the first movie in theaters. But I definitely got into it again after that… and I have such a Love for Legolas as well ;-)
Lusty Month of May- The name of my current fic-a-day project over in the non-sneezing world of fanfiction, but also a song in Camelot. Every time I say it out (rather than abbreviate it as LMoM) I get the song stuck in my head for hours afterwards. And I am forced to sing it so myself in a very energetic but sultry sort of way.
Lupin- Tina got R and picked Remus… and I got L so I HAD to use Lupin for one. He’s my absolute favorite Harry Potter character, hands down. He is really the reason I started reading the series in the first place (I resisted for years, stupid me!). I was smitten from the first time I read of him in nermal’s fanfic.
Loch Shiel- My interest in this Loch started because of Highlander. The MacLeod boys were born “in the town of Glenfinnan on the shores of Loch Shiel” (they even filmed a bit of a season 4 episode there). As my obsession with Scotland grew, I also came to love it because that was where Prince Charlie arrived in the Highlands to raise his standard and call the clans to fight for him. When I went to Scotland, that was the spot I most wanted to visit, and I even got to go down and touch the waters of the Loch, which is utterly gorgeous to me. I didn’t, however, see Seileag (the loch’s monster). Loch Shiel is also used as the great lake in the Harry Potter films (easily recognized in that scene where he’s sitting lakeside with Hedwig, or when he’s riding Buckbeak in PoA for the first time).
