Spoilers: This is set in mid-Season 2. So, yeah, everything that happens before Season 3 is fair game to pop up here.
Summary: Sawyer and Kate make a trek through the jungle. Sawyer’s not sure why Kate wants him along… all he knows is that he’s sick and just wants things to make sense on an island where nothing makes much sense.
Notes: Written as a gift fic for Legolas093096 during the 2005 holiday season. Thank you to my mother who got me unstuck as far as plot.
Me: I’m stuck on page two of a fic I’m writing. Can you think of any reason Sawyer and Kate (and only the two of them) would go off into the jungle?
Mom: The only way you’d be able to pull that off is if they were looking for Jack because Jack was gone… Because he was lost
Both of us: *laugh over badly-written dialogue involving the word lost*

I'm soooooooo sorry this is so very late. It's my first ever attempt at writing either character so hopefully it's not too bad. I tried to make it work with the tone of the show a bit, though I think I may have lost it at the end. *shrug* I've been watching 11 hours of LOST on tape trying to help inspire me here :-)

Thank you! This is excellent! I read all three gifts (a nice hat trick by the way) and then went back and read mine again. Those 11 hours really paid off, I think you really nailed the characters, they both do have their softer sides (referring to the last paragraphs) and it is nice to see that. I love Saywer hating they grey areas, preferring B&W, and applying it to himself and his relationship with Kate--perfect! And it just wouldn't be Lost without a flashback :) Just lovely :) I loved the ongoing Kate v Sawyer tally, and the fact that he just couldn't get the points going because he was off his game. Again, thank you! I love all your writing too, maybe there will be more Lost in the future? I hope so. I like your Hornblower stuff too, although I'm having trouble picturing Archie as Archie--I keep seeing Apollo from new Battlestar instead! Keep up the excellent work. And thank you thank you thank you! I love knowing this fic is here for me to come back and read whenever I need it. You rock!

OMG I took so long with it that you changed your name! LOL I really am sorry about the delay.

I'm so glad to hear you enjoyed yours (and read the others, as well!). And I've never seen the new (or the old for that matter) Battlestar Gallactica... though maybe now I'll have to add it to the list of shows I need to see...

Awww, I'm soo relieved! I'm glad you liked the concept behind it and thought it worked for Sawyer. I had hoped it wasn't too much of a stretch. I'm pleased you liked their softer sides as well... it didn't go quite so far as getting back to the beach and cuddling together in Sawyer's tent, of course, and I know you mentioned sneezes from Kate but that seemed like a good place to end the fic. So you're welcome to imagine anything you like for afterward :-) Oh, and I much agree about the flashbacks. It's LOST! I HAD to throw at least one in there! I'm glad you appreciated that :-)

This was definitely a challenge to write, so I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'm not sure about more from the fandom in the future... but I'm not going to rule it out. They're fun characters, even if the show itself is sometimes hard for me to take and horribly predictable. And I definitely enjoyed writing Sawyer here *G*

Jack was lost. I thought phrases like that only happened in books and on tv. Besides that inital humor, the story was really good. They were very in character, especially for being your first attempt at writing them.
