Six hours later...
Jul. 15th, 2006 11:52 pmMy house finally has Verizon DSL!!!!!
It only took us 6 hours... and 3 phone calls to tech support people. Thank gods I have a computer background and my dad's pretty great with comps, too. Though I felt all awesome teaching him about things like mail accounts (this is how an outgoing smtp server works...) and how networks work (yes, we can all be online at the same time and, no, we won't be looking at the same screen). And it was my idea to finally move the not-working wireless adapter to PCI slot 1 where the modem was because it wasn't working in slot 2. But, yes, the home network is set up, two computers are online at the same time, and we can make phone calls any time we want. No more accidentally dialing up while someone's on the phone. No more having to yell up 2 flights of stairs to see if someone's on the other computer. And it's fast. Man, I REALLY missed this from my days on ethernet at college! 5-6 years of high speed connections and going back to dial-up nearly killed me. It was seriously driving me crazy when it took 8 or 9 attempts to connect on dial-up. And now I'll always be online again!
Seriously, we're the last people in the country to get broadband and it took forever and we had so many problems. But I'm brilliant... apparently not fast and brilliant... but brilliant. And we did break for an hour for dinner...
Anyhoo... I'm online! Whoohoo! *does a little dance*
