You took horseback riding lessons *squee* I owned 2 horses (one after the other, not at the same time) and rode and showed competativly from middle school into college!

Ooohhhhh! What kind of horses did you own? And I'm assuming you rode English? Probably not a very nice assumption, but when I hear "showed" I guess I'm just a snob :-) But, wow, middle school through college- I'm impressed!!!

I took lessons for a few years only, and enjoyed them. I had great form but HATED jumping. I always dreaded those parts of the lessons where the instructor would line us up and make us jump and my horse would always refuse cuz I sucked at it muchly and they pushed us way too hard. So I dropped out just before the class where we were required to start showing. I'm not a competitive person, anyway.

My mother was/is a huge horse person, though. She was obsessed with them as a young girl and she and one of her sisters had horses finally (and their own barn), when they were in their teens. Mom was excellent and still has some of her trophies but she has horrible allergies and can't stay around them too much if she wants to be able to breathe, sadly. I know that kills her. And my aunt still rides- she just got a new horse (she had one pass on) two years ago.


FYI, in my Strokes series... Olly's sister 'Swan' rides horses thanks to that influence in my life :-)

My first one was a Thoroughbred and my second was a Cleveland Bay. And yes, I ride English. Jumping was my favorite part. Something about being so intune with the horse that you can accomplish a jump... I just loved it! I just rode againg or the first time in a few years the other day, it was amazing! A friend of a friend owns horses and he wants me to help his niece (who rides western) learn English so I am very very excited about that. He also want to take me riding again too... so woo hoo! I would love to get back into all of it again, but I just don't have the money right now sadly. But someday, someday I will!
