Olly revealed :-)
Aug. 3rd, 2006 09:03 pmI finished Olly's story! Now, it's not very edited, so I apologize if I missed anything. I'm rather relieved it's finally finished, since I've been working on it for years now :-) Hope you enjoy!
Title: Olly's Story
Rating: PG/PG-13 (brief mention of sex, little bit of swearing)
Warning: There is reference to v-ing here. It's not shown, but it's mentioned in the story a few times.
Summary: An introduction to Olly, the mansion's resident doctor. This is a day in his very busy life.
It can be found on the Strokes page: http://tgsrealm.beastlet.com/Strokes/Strokes.html
I intend to post 'Late Call' and 'Walking' later this weekend. They're best read after Olly's story is read, because Olly's story better "introduces" two characters in those stories.
EDIT: Okay, I was just reading through 'Late Call' and I can't post that until I finish 'Moving On' because of spoilers. Buuuut I'll still post Walking this weekend.
EDIT EDIT: I added a warning above

Date: 2006-08-04 04:10 am (UTC)I thought Olly's story was great. I think you did a great job with his character, I love him working at the clinic, and also his relationship with his niece and sister was shown so well. He is clearly an awesome uncle. By the way, the whole not wanting to get out of the tub thing is so true. (Though my son won't let me pull the plug until he's out.)I also thought it was great how all the guys loved Maylin.
I also loved Olly's interactions with, and taking care of Pit. He was so concerned and attentive, clearly a caregiver, but beyond an average doctor way. I loved Pit being all grouchy and then just losing his fight as he got sicker. The sneezes were very nicely done.
The relationships between all the housemates are so well done(I'm sorry I'm at a lack for better adjectives....). I love them caring about and watching out for each other. I especially loved Olly climbing into bed and cuddling up with Pit to help him feel better.
A definite thumbs up as usual.
I also just noticed Summer Nights, I'm not sure if it's new or I just missed it, but it was great too. Coyote is one of my favorite boys, and I do love to see him all cute and sick and sneezy. I loved everyone getting out of the pool to go in the house with him and everything they did to help him feel better. Very sweet :) I also loved that it was Marty's cold he caught - what could be better than cute boys sharing their germs.
Thanks for giving me new SF to read, I eagerly await more.

As a person, I'm probably a mix of Marty and Olly. So I wanted to be sure his was a good intro story. He's so defined by what he does for others (as you could probably tell), so even though he wasn't the one who was sick in this story, I hope his character came through loud and clear :-) And, of them all, he's the one closest to his family. So I'm glad you thought he was an awesome uncle
By the way, the whole not wanting to get out of the tub thing is so true
LOL! So glad that bit hit home for you! :-)
I never wanted to get out of the bathtub, either, (even when it was getting cold) but I wasn't that bad
I also thought it was great how all the guys loved Maylin
She's got a lot of problems, but they're not her fault. How could anyone not love her? :-) And they're all good guys, even Pit. She quickly won them all over. Plus, OMG the whole 'cute little kid being looked after by a bunch of guys' thing totally makes me melt ;-)
I also loved Olly's interactions with, and taking care of Pit. He was so concerned and attentive, clearly a caregiver, but beyond an average doctor way.
Well, Pit's more than just a patient, after all. In other stories you'll see Olly's less snuggly doctor side. I'm so happy you liked Olly's caregiving side, though. That's definitely what he lives for.
I loved Pit being all grouchy and then just losing his fight as he got sicker. The sneezes were very nicely done.
Pit is quickly becomming one of my favorite characters, though I've barely scratched the surface with him. He's such a strange contradiction but I find him so nummy. I'm glad you liked his grouchiness and it falling away. Poor Pit *pets*
The relationships between all the housemates are so well done. I love them caring about and watching out for each other
Awwwww Thanks!! I definitely want it to feel like a family (a family they chose, mind). I'm glad you like the dynamic and the caring. I should probably make it clear that they do get on each other's nerves at times, too, naturally ;-)
I especially loved Olly climbing into bed and cuddling up with Pit to help him feel better
Yay! Pit's definitely a cuddler. Mmmm. And Olly's so good at knowing what everyone needs... except he's clueless when it comes to his own needs. I do hope that came through
I also just noticed Summer Nights, I'm not sure if it's new or I just missed it, but it was great too.
Oh yay!! I posted it a while ago *checks LJ* July 16th. But it was easy to miss. I'm glad you found it and read it, though! Thanks!
Coyote is one of my favorite boys
Squeee! Thanks!
and I do love to see him all cute and sick and sneezy.
I was driving home and that line of his about not getting in because he was getting sick... the way he phrased it... totally had me grinning. So of course I had to write something around that
I loved everyone getting out of the pool to go in the house with him and everything they did to help him feel better. Very sweet :)
Thanks!! I thought so :-)
I also loved that it was Marty's cold he caught - what could be better than cute boys sharing their germs.
LOL See, this is why I love sharing my writing with sneeze fetishists. They *totally* get that. It's one of those things that you can't admit to anyone else but, yeah, it's cute! *G*
And of course Coyote had to catch it from Marty. Coyote's always sneezing *EG* Bad Tg! Stop torturing your characters!
It's funny you reading these two stories back-to-back. Did you notice Coyote wasn't in Olly's Story? That's cuz he was still in Arizona at the time. And did you notice Jamie hadn't moved into the mansion yet? It's so hard posting these out of order... I know what happens & what the timeline is but I worry I'm confusing readers....
Anyway, thank you for reading and making comments!!!!
I know...
Date: 2006-08-05 02:19 am (UTC)I couldn't resist commenting on your worry about confusing your readers. I wanted to assure you that I'm not the least bit confused, and even if I were sneezefic has opened up a door to me finding out that you don't necessarily need to have watched the shows or read the books. I have never watched an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but have read all the Buffy sneezefic availible and haven't found myself confused yet.
So I guess what I'm getting at is I can't wait to read your finished-but-not-yet-posted fics. And to reassure you that I am thoroughly enjoying your original series. I think it's great that you and VATERgrrl can write an original series. I find it difficult to write one original story. I'm not quite sure why because I'd really like to, but I'll keep trying.
Sorry for the length and rambling in this post.

Date: 2006-08-05 03:11 am (UTC)I just wrote a long and rambling post(and then deleted it - because it made no sense) about how amazing the whole Strokes universe is. I am in such awe at what you've created, the whole scope of it, the characters, and the depth of it. I won't go on to confuse you :), but you know what I mean.
